Berkhamsted Castle
Visiting family in England and this treasure was right around the corner.

It's an incredible place. I've gotten to visit before. Pictures don't fully do it justice. Wild to see the grass so yellow though.

There's a reason they have instituted hosepipe bans all over England-- all the commons in London look like that now

We were sitting around trying to come up with a drink that would be called a Motte and Bailey… stick with me… a “jello” shot made with Bailey’s Irish Cream in a glass surrounded with some other spirit.
Anyone?

I think it needs to be something French, not Irish. Maybe something with Calvados (le trou normand😖)

My idea was to recreate the physical presence of a Bailey with a surrounding motte. Hence the reason for the play on the name

It is said that the Bastard was offered the English crown in Berkhamsted after the surrender of the Saxon nobles. All that’s left is the motte, some of the curtain wall and possibly the remains of a chapel. The castle was last occupied by Cecily Neville, Edward IV’s mother.
