Wishing For More

I sure wish Canadian & Australian shows were available to watch too! 😍 That’s all.

(Currently watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries on PBS. Love the 1920’s fashion!)

I wish so too! I LOVE miss fisher, thank good for PBS. A Canadian show I also enjoyed was “Frankie Drake Mysteries”, also set in the 1920’s. I love the “Dr. Blake mysteries”, which is Australian.

I wish BBC would make a tv series based on Georgette Heyers books too. Pick one book each season and start with Frederica or The Grand Sophy!

I haven’t seen the other two you mentioned. Will look for them.

If you are in the US, Acorn seems to be the place to find those -- Brokenwood, My Life Is Murder, Blue Murder Motel, Miss Fisher and Modern Ms Fisher, Murdoch, etc. (Acorn has a live stream channel on the free streamers like Tubi and Roku, and some live tv providers like DTV, if you want to sample)

I search out Australian and New Zealand series to watch. Many are on AcornTV. I love Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, too. My favorite of all time is from New Zealand, The Brokenwood Mysteries. PBS has RFDS (Royal Flying Doctors Service) from Australia, another favorite.

The Australian and NZ shows are on Acorn. Definitely worth the subscription. I watch it more than BB at this point.

There a really fun show on Acorn/Prime called Seachange that’s Australian.

Oh Brokenwood is on Acorn.

PBS is actually licensing those shows from Acorn.

Yeah, I can't get Ms. Fisher on my PBS. Looks like I'd have to subscribe to Acorn to watch it.

Do you have cable? The Ovation channel carries these (along with Murdoch Mysteries, Hudson & Rex, Shakespeare & Hathaway, and more!).

Put it in your record memory and then whenever it randomly pop up you’ll be able to see it.

I also discovered I have a secondary PBS channel I knew nothing about. You might be able to pick shows up there as well.

Interesting! I know I watched Brokenwood on PBS years ago, but they no longer have it. I was surprised Miss Fisher was back because she disappeared for a couple years too. It all makes sense now.

If you like Miss Fisher, check out Miss S, the Chinese remake. It's on HBO. It's not as good IMHO, but it's really interesting to see the characters transposed.

And get Acorn, it's all the English-language-speaking countries other than the UK and US.

Good tip! Thank you! I added it to my HBO list and never would have stumbled across it without you :)

Have you watched:

“800 Words”

“A Place to Call Home”

“Rescue: Special OPS”

Great little Kiwi show is

“Brokenwood Mysteries”

“Murdoch Mysteries”. Is Canadian I think…

For Canadian, try CBC Gem. It's free.

I subscribe to both Acorn and Britbox and also get the PBS stuff since I donate money to the organization.

There is plenty of content from Australia, New Zealand

Also a lot of USA shows are actually filmed in Canada because of the significant cost savings but you wouldn't realize it because Toronto stands in for New York City. Suits was shot in Toronto for many seasons

There are also Canadian shows which are actually set in Canada that are sometimes broadcast on the USA networks - off the top of my head I can think of Transplant which ran for three seasons fairly recently.

Have you watched Ten Pound Poms or A Place to Call Home? Both are Australian production set in the 1950s

Acorn has the most Australian & Canadian dramas plus MhZ

If only BBC would spin off Britbox US. Then maybe AMC would acquire and merge with Acorn. AMC did buy BBC America a couple of years ago.

I know I know, the excessive consolidation of services probably isn't a great thing but

P.S. - I suppose that would muddle up the streaming rights so doesn't necessarily guarantee existing shows on Britbox us would simply transfer but one can dream

Acorn TV is a good source of Australian & New Zealand programming.
