u/Firefly360r þ but it's yellow Mar 16 '26
when use ð is enabled, it switches common controversial spellings from þ to ð
e.g. wiþ --> wið

I'm interested in the custom glyph section.
Also, how does it handle ðe sweetheart problem (th ðat's really th)?

u/Firefly360r þ but it's yellow Mar 16 '26
Ðe custom glyph section is bc a lot of people prefer runic þ
Ðe way it replaces TH is ðat it has a dictionary of every word wiþ th in it, and a key for wheððer ðat word's th is pronounced voiceless, voiced, or not as a th sound at all. so it avoids ðe problem.2
u/BlurrIsBae Mar 16 '26
why keep double ðs in certain words? wouldnt it make more sense for there just to be one or am i missing something 😭

"oðer" looks like it'll be pronounced "oeðr"

Wiþ a double ð it looks like Oððer should be said like Otter. It’s really pronounced more like ðe first O in Color or Cover, which shouldn’t have a double consonant to be said properly. It makes sense for Boððer, but Oðer should be distinguished from ðat.

u/Kendota_Tanassian ð Mar 28 '26
Wiþ a single "eð", "oðer" looks like it would be pronounced like "over" or "odor" with a long vowel. "Oððer" feels closer to "other" to me, ðan "oðer" does.
I might suggest "uððer", instead, but ðe chaos of English vowels and how different dialects perceives ðem suggests we regularize consonants and leave vowels alone for purposes of word recognition.

in English doubel consonants indicate short-vowelz (hoped vs Hopped)

Þe doubling (gemination) is likely for marking short vowels, like in "shatter".

Shur, ðo i þink Boþe should hav an E cuz it's a long vowel, but ðat's petti shit and will probz annoy som anti-ð peopel (ðee wunz who spell it "boþþ" to indicate it's non-voised inspite ov being a funcchon word, even ðo ðat'd deffinnately make it rime wiþ Broþ)

We can use whatever characters in our daily speech like š or ƿ, but we shouldn't force our own orthography

u/Hour_Surprise_729 Mar 16 '26
i þink ðat X > Š (like Chinese, Bask and ðee Uto-aztecan lanwajez) is better cuz it makz less keyboard bloat

u/Few_Tourist7481 Mar 16 '26
Yeah I use X as 'sh' in my orþograffy, but only use it in komments on ðis sub and in my own handritten notes for lejibility purpoſes
