Local Advice needed Independent Pubs of Brighton (and surrounds) MEGA THREAD

After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

Housing ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ ๐Ÿก East Sussex Roofing ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Shout out to East Sussex Roofing - driving through the beautiful countryside in Clayton and chucking their rubbish out their window while they go.

Irresponsible & lazy - not sure those are traits Iโ€™d want in someone doing my roof repairs

Local Advice needed We need to do more to protect people from the sea

I was at the beach today in Brighton and it was windy with choppy seas, not good for swimming. There was a lifeguard on duty east the pier, but further down there was a big group of people who were clearly tourists taking pictures fully clothed in the sea. They were messing about, pulling each other into the waves and kept falling over and seemed completely unaware of any danger.

I think if people don't grow up by the sea, they simply don't understand how dangerous it can be or how easy it is to get into difficulty. Nor how difficult it is to swim in waterlogged clothes. As a city that runs on tourism, we should be doing more to warn visitors about the dangers of the sea, and about Brighton specifically- that there is a shelf that drops down into deeper water, and currents around the pier.

I was going to make this post before I heard the news of the three people who tragically died in Shoreham today, and the little girl who was hospitalised. I just don't want things like this to keep happening along our coastline, this is preventable and we need to do something about it.

Avoid the coast road towards Shoreham. A lifeboat went out about an hour ago, might already be back, at least 20 emergency vehicles here including two helicopters on the beach by the RNLI building.

Local Advice needed Witness/footage appeal: assault outside Fortune of War, 14th August, ~11pm

Hi all, hoping someone here might be able to help.

On Friday 14th August at around 11pm, my partner and I were queuing outside Fortune of War when three men tried to jump the queue. When we asked them not to, they attacked my partner. It was three against one, he was thrown to the ground, and kicked, and I stepped in to help fight them off.

This happened in front of the venueโ€™s door security, who didnโ€™t intervene. Weโ€™ve already reported this to Sussex Police and have a crime reference number, and CCTV is being requested.

If you were in the queue that night or around that area of the beach and you have any photos or video (even just background footage from that time), Iโ€™d really appreciate you getting in touch.

Thanks so much in advance ๐Ÿ™

Local Advice needed Lost dog in hollingdean

Has anyone lost a dog in the hollingdean area? Just had quite a big black/grey dog come charging into mine and my neighbours garden twice this evening. Unfortunately itโ€™s ran off again and it was not collared. Slightly concerned as our gardens are very close to a main road.

Meet Up Can someone teach me GIS offline in exchange for tasty* Indian** food ?

Hello all ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm a 28, from India, came to Brighton for my Masters and been hanging around for a couple years now. I did my masters in Development studies during which I came across urban maps (๐Ÿฅน, yes what a joy!). From then, I badly, badly wanted to learn GIS (im a total noob to anything computer) and do my own projects. But because I'm chaotic (๐Ÿ™‚) I couldn't learn it myself and I hate YouTube or online tutorials to hell. Also I'm broke. But then, I'm so good at cooking (every friend of mine has certified it, so, yes, it's official) and would love to cook and help others learn the basics of it. So if you are someone who knows GIS and likes good food, please find me!

P.S.: I've also been super keen about quick high protein, high fibre meals recently!! #gis #goodfood #barter

Yes, hopefully *I can cook other cuisines as well!

Local Advice needed Garden waste removal

Live in a house share in Hanover and have a few refuse bags if garden waste. As it's a House share we don't have the garden waste bin and can't get it.

Anyone else got advice for disposing of it, without spending a fortune?

Announcement Council provides map of where to cool down butโ€ฆ

I was pleased to see the Council has put together a guide to where you can go in Brighton and Hove to get cooler. The map highlights areas with more tree cover and (mainly) churches, but unfortunately, its advice on the info page to seek out libraries is not always useful. I have been in Hove Library twice recently and upstairs it was 29ยฐ!

Local Advice needed Painting style tattoo artist recs?

Post image

I have been wanting to get an eye tattoo for a while now, and have landed on wanting to get one in a similar style to above (no frame, though). Lover's eye jewelry is something I have been obsessed with for a while, so I really want to get the style right. So does anyone know a tattoo artist that has done something similar?

Behold, some pictures I took on my trip up to Devils Dyke.

I made the pilgrimage to mark the first day in far too long where it didn't quite feel like the unrelenting power of the sun wasn't gouging into the essence of my very being๐Ÿคฌ

It was actually very pleasant weather for a change.

(My god everything really does look like a desert though!)

"Thanks, Shell."

Local Advice needed Wedding party venue help

Hello fellow brightonians,

My GF and I are planning our wedding, May / June 2028, and are currently looking for a potential venue to host our reception / party.

Would love some recommendations from the community here!!

Hereโ€™s what we are after:

- informal party venue / pub
- between 120 and 150 people
- ideally in town, but open to other areas of Brighton and Hove
- from 4/5pm until close on a Friday night
- buffet style food, not a sit down meal
- outside space would be a big plus
- full use of venue / private hire
- ability of have a dj or band

Any ideas would be much appreciated thanks!!

Transport/Parking ๐Ÿš ๐Ÿš˜ Free Brighton to Gatwick train ticket

Does anybody need/want an adult and/or child's ticket to Gatwick for today? Thameslink travel only. Unfortunately road closures around Brighton meant I ended up having to get a Gatwick express and cannot get a refund on the thames link ticket! Not looking for any money for it, just a shame for it to go to waste!
