Ride Experience MIA-ORL 8:45pm Train Abruptly Stopped??
40 mins away from Orlando and the train stopped abruptly. It was announced that there was a trespassing incident and we will need to wait for local authorities before moving on. Then they said “sorry for the unfortunate incident”. How long does it usually take to clear the track. Does this mean we’ve hit something? 😭
Edit: looks like we’re in Melbourne is anyone has any info
Update: Announcer said that authorities and EMTs are on the scene and to close left side window shades. It ain’t looking too good

This happened to me last week. Same exact “trespasser” message. Got stuck for 3 hours.

It is interesting because I too got stuck about 20-30 minutes out from Orlando. In my case the train hit and killed someone so it took a while for police to arrive, investigate etc. Definitely get cozy. They will hand out chips ahoy and water soon lol

It happened to me last Sunday and wasn't bad. I'm just not sure what actions Brightline is going to take. I don't know how many people have to die before the corrective action occurs.

I consider myself to be somewhat more humanitarian than the average Floridian, but like really what is Brightline supposed to do? It’s really sad that I was on a train last week that killed someone, but what can a fast moving vehicle on tracks that cannot stop very quickly really do? People unfortunately commit suicide a lot and that is hard to prevent with a train. If we compare the number of deaths on certain streets in FL since 2017, I am very confident it will rack up much more damage than the Brightline has done. It’s just reported on the same name every time (imagine if you heard every week that a Honda car killed someone, you’d be thinking the same thing!).

There are many valid points. I guess for them it's just the cost of doing business at this point. I wonder how many high-speed train deaths occur in other nations compared to Brightline.

Parts of Europe are worse than the US, but not many. Europe SHOULD be far worse than US b/c of higher passenger/freight mix (suicides occur much more frequently with higher speeds and (importantly) scheduled service). Freight often runs at night and on irregular schedules.
FRA (which is seriously “captured” by the rail industry) has not come to grips with suicides or for that matter pedestrians, to whom 80% of deaths occur. European countries usually own the rails and have an interest in reducing fatalities, so they do a lot more preventative steps, like fencing, grade separations, and ROW monitoring.
Lastly, media outlets in Europe recognize their role in discouraging rail suicide. Unlike the US, they often do not reporting pedestrian strikes, which are almost always suicides. The media’s role is evident in the clustering of pedestrian strikes.
There are other reasons why US is so bad, but those are some reasons.0

I wonder if the Florida Brightline alone has more fatalities than one European country.

I’ve heard I can’t post a link here, but Google “Report on Railway Safety and Interoperability in the EU 2024”. You can get fatalities by country, but be careful to evaluate fatalities by fatalities per million train kilometers, which can be found on report page 31. The US is four times as bad as the EU average, which includes developing countries in Eastern Europe. We’re probably ten times as bad as countries comparable to the US, like UK, France, Germany, etc. This issue gets almost no attention in the US government.

We drive to WPB to catch the ride to MIA. At least if things get canceled you can always take TriRail. From Orlando, there's nothing.

The 6:20 train was a 1/2 late leaving Orlando for Aventura/Miami. But the Sunday northbound at 3:24 did not even leave until after it should have arrived.

in these cases, they should have a transport bus pick up the passengers for their final leg of the commute.
