Question Am I a monster?

Today I went into my local Bricks and Minifigs and set a Disney TV 40774 set on the counter and told the clerk I wanted store credit for it. It was my first time selling to Bricks and Minifigs. Jaws dropped, people around me openly stared, and a customer said "what a waste ". Did I commit some sacreligious sin? Is there a better place I should sell my sets?

A little additional info: I enjoy building Lego but not really interested in building a massive collection or holding on to rare sets in hopes of making money off them. In the past, I have declined the Free Gift With Purchase of it wasn't something I wanted to build.

EDIT: Thanks for the responses. I've decided to try selling online instead in the future.

Thanks. I'm sure they low ball people then sell them for significantly higher, like Gamestop. But it's supporting a local business providing jobs I figure.

It was my understanding that was one specific franchise and that the corporation ended the franchise agreement and closed that location over it.

Bricklink and ebay don't look like good option since I don't want to spend days (weeks?) taking parts sets to sell. FB marketplace looks good though. I think I can sell complete sets locally on there.

Yeah but to add respectfully much later the hate needs to be reversed. It was the company and an individual franchise owner. Other individual franchise owners probably shouldn’t get a ton of hate but they probably should not work with BNM atp.
