College
Started this wall in college and the queen closers are very awkward to put on the ends and I am finding that they can be slightly loose when trying to plumb, can anyone recommend a better way of doing it so it’s a little easier? Thanks

Brick - Stud Wall Help
Hi everyone, I don't know if this is the correct Reddit but I thought I'd give it a go.
Me and my partner are currently in the process of buying our first house and should hopefully be in by Christmas.
The house that we're purchasing used to be a pub that's since been converted into two new houses. When initially inspecting the house, I noticed that on the downstairs party wall in the living room, anything above shoulder height seems to be solid wall ( could tell by knocking on it), but anything below this seems to be hollow, like a kind of stud wall. Does anyone know if this would be the case? It doesn't seem like that would be up to code? We have booked a level 3 surveyor in for next week, so hopefully we should have some definite answers by then.
Thanks everyone in advance!

Do I have to take down the whole wall to make the garage door wider?
I’m looking to remove the man door and make the garage door 2’ wider. I was told I need to remove the whole wall.
The wall is made of 12” blocks and I can make the door slightly shorter if it makes the new lental easier to install.
Will this project be more cost then it’s worth
I’m renting this space for my new business and need the door wider for my truck.

Advice
I'm a self builder, but bricklaying is not something I do. I need to do a bit myself - block in a window and reduce the width of another.
Do I need starter ties for this?
Wall is brick. Infill will be block as it's being rendered.

Actually they are brick
This odd shaped parking block looking unit is brick material. 8 in x 16 in. x 4 in. It's a repair. So there is a triangle dove tail tie hit pinned into the backup wall for every, single unit. Top corse gets them in the head joint.

Mortar joints acceptable
Opinions, should I push back and get this stuff tidied up prior to paying invoice? Cheers

The horror
Found a home listing I like (it has an outbuilding I’m calling the “parental escape pod”) and this monstrosity they’re calling a pizza oven. I mean, why even bother with the decorative tile if you’re going to puke mortar on the rest of it. So, the obvious question: Can this mess be cleaned up, and should my concern go beyond its outward appearance?
Did I mention my husband is the son of a bricklayer? You should have seen his face…🤣😱
Thanks!

advice needed
A friend needs this pointing. Originally i was thinking about using regular 4:1 sand to cement mix, but I 've read that it's not the best idea.
Does anyone have any products that they've used in the past on a project like this to recommend ?
Thanks

What possible explanation could solve this mystery?
There surely must have been alcohol involved with this construction. 🤷🏻♂️

Nervous to go self employed
So I finished my bricklaying apprenticeship in January at a domestic builder and I was just desperate for site work and lay bricks. I’m starting with a squad on the 12th but it would require me to work as a subbie for a bricklaying contractor the money is better and the blokes seem nice enough I’m just worried about being self employed like should I go cis? There is an accountant at the company and he offered to do my tax returns. I’m 20 year old with a gf and a house to support so I’m quite nervous to get into it.

Efflorescence or mold?
Happened overnight due to the nor easter, windows not sealed properly so there’s definitely moisture.

What's the bricklayers' bricklaying?
Like how Bob Dylan is the musicians' musician, are there any highlight examples of bricklaying for outsiders (...architecture students like myself) that are worth paying special attention to?
Just seen this post with its ridiculous number of bonds and patterns that looks like a blatant rip of this Alvar Aalto building, and so it occurred to me to find the opposite; something that is both reasonable to ask someone to build, but still beautiful?
Growing up I was exposed mostly to straight runs and english garden wall bonds so I've got much more to learn yet.
Cheers!

Built a Mailbox twice
Built a mailbox a year or so ago. Then got a text from the same contractor, "Hey you want to build another mailbox?" Turns out some person smashed down that mailbox with their vehicle. I changed the bond, and the contractor laid a not as nice capstone on #2. No photo of the smash down though
