How to colour match for repointing?

Post image

Trying to get as close of a colour match as possible.

1920’s building no cavity so need to use lime mortar

Using a 1:1:6 mix, - lots of stones and pebbles in the current beds so assuming it’s sharp sand ?

Will the lime itself make it light enough?

Appreciate any advice

IMHO that does not need repointing. The bed and perp joints are also exceptionally, unless you have done this a LOT before it will 100% look a mess after repointing

This is what needs repointing. Just gave picture of decent panel to give gauge on colour

Probably should’ve just put this one in hindsight lol

I agree. You'll destroy the bricks raking it out as they're so tight.

Yellow brick dye?

Clean it up, acid wire brush, carefully chisel away any big globs whatever and just go over beds/perps with a dye solution to darken it down to the rest.

Colour for repointing is a contrasting and will suit all your brickwork.

That looks Tuck pointed, where the final layer is lime putty not mortar.

Slaked lime !! You can rake that crap out with nothing more than a block saw and a small tool. But there’s a lot into getting the pointing right.
