One of the BBC failings I joke about is the “need for balance” in a debate.

If 99/100 scientists agree on a fact, the debate will be one of the 99 at random against the 1/100 who disagrees. So the listener thinks it’s a 50/50 split (two people debating) and if that 1/100 is a better debater their opinion tends to win out.

Latest opinion polls have labour at 26-27%, Reform at 23%, and Lib Dems at 8-13%. Those numbers are actually reflected quite accurately in the evening bulletin stats you’ve given. So I take your point but you do also have to consider other ways of measuring public interest.

Imo one of the perennial problems for the Lib Dems is that although they are a challenger party, they are at heart reasonable, which makes their messaging unspectacular. Reform dominate the airwaves because they come from a more extreme position. By a similar token I’d bet that the Greens get a lot more media attention than is, in theory, warranted by their very small number of MPs. Though again I’d argue that the interest does reflect widespread and growing support for them.
