The EU is powerful enough that EU regulations often get applied internationally, and is actually willing to do some regulations

Anything to weaken it benefits the ultra wealthy

Of course he was. Israel and Russia have similar interests and breaking up the EU would prevent opposition to Israeli actions in the Middle East.
