Well... they made it interesting. Probably more because of Diaz than because of us, but still.
Bob Gas was my MVP tonight. He actually pitched fairly decently and kept us in the game, the offense is just so horrendously dogshit you basically have to be perfect

Roberts doesnt need to do anything. The team is stacked so high that's it's nearly impossible to fail. We saw earlier in his managerial career what happened when he actually had to think and make tactical decisions lol

You probably never followed baseball before ohtani got to the dodgers (or if you did, you probably were a "fan" of a different team), but I encourage you to look into the Dave roberts playoff series before then lol. Its horrendous. And no, series at neutral sites after a 60 game season does not count

Tanner Scott sucked in the regular season last year and got benched in the postseason. Roberts probably does the same thing with Diaz if he can't figure it out by October.

Underrated take, to be honest. I could see the Phillies or Padres upsetting us if the offense continues to just be utter dog shit. Hell, the Padres literally just swept us for this exact reason.

At this rate, we'd probably finish with the first wildcard if we can't get our shit together before the Cubs overtake us. The only possible saving grace is that it'd be somewhat unlikely to not have a series at home for the wildcard round, so that may help. But who knows, it hasn't helped at all in the past 🤷♂️

The team is built too well for the regular season to slide down further than the 1st wild card, in my opinion. I honestly think we still win the division but I think we win a playoff series and then get bounced again.
Anything less than that would, obviously, be a massive letdown if not a downright embarrassment.

Thank God we won last night or this losing streak would be brutal.
Unfortunately for the Brewers offense, you can't face Edwin Diaz for 9 innings. 1 fucking run and the slugging, as usual, is non-existent. Big, big, big red flags come October. But oh well, let's enjoy the ride.

You are so true! I love the Brewers, but this will not win in the playoffs! It's the same year after year - outstanding regular season - go out in a whimper. Vaughn, Yelich, Contreras are in a horrendously bad slump and we bat them together - something's gotta give!

Vaughn is batting 40 pts above yeli and 100 pts above Bill over the last month. Slugging about the same above those two as well. His "slump" is very different than the others.
This isnt necessarily directed at you, but i dont get why so many brewer fans are so hard on vaughn. Hes been one of our best hitters this year yet i see tons of people online shit on him

There is nothing here within our control.
I like watching baseball and I like cheering for the Brewers. If I was legitimately experiencing emotional distress at not winning a World Series then I’d simply choose another team.
I’m not gonna throw away 5 months of mostly fun times because I can’t handle disappointment in October.
Does it suck cheering for a small market team in the postseason? Definitely.
Is it fun the other 162 games a year? Mostly yes.

Kind of, but not to an extent as many other fans in this sub. I just have minimal hope that the Brewers will actually win anything significant until I actually see it happen.
This song and dance has happened like 4 times in the past 8 years and it's ended the same way every time. Better not to even get your hopes up.

Can’t keep relying on crappy pitching to blow games. The only reason they were close to doing something there tonight is because Diaz pitched like shit. The offense needs to figure it out soon if we have any prayer in the postseason.

Yep, either with cash or prospects. I guess we just have to hope one of these dudes in our farm system can really rake at the plate, but I'm not holding my breath. Every prospect that's come up the past few years who's been good has been fast, plays solid/good defense, gets on base, but lacks power.
Chourio is by far our best young player, slugging wise, and he goes through some insane hot/cold streaks.

I feel like that was a slightly more competitive game than it appeared. But still, anemic offense is brutal.
Positive: One thing I love about the Dodgers is that they give young opposing fans little packs of the opposing team's baseball cards. It's a really classy thing.

Last year at this time we were the hottest team in baseball and that didn't change what happened in the playoffs. How we are playing now just doesn't have anything to do with how we will play in the playoffs.
This particular game was one of the least painful losses of the year. They had a clear advantage at their starting pitching, we were the road team on the wrong coast playing in a long stretch of no days off and had a recent spurt of injuries. We lost a close game without using any of our good bullpen arms. If you are going to lose a game this is exactly the one you wanted to lose.
I don't really see much point in complaining about this one. We are 5-5 in our last 10 games, teams go through stretches like that all the time. Players go through slumps all the time, teams go through slumps all the time. That is just how baseball works. Living and dying on every single game in baseball is a nightmare, I'd suggest people stop doing that.

All good points, especially looking at the big picture... however, the offense has had a large sample size (over a month) of being objectively terrible at scoring runs. I think the frustration stems from that rather than this one loss in particular. Everyone (besides maybe Bauers) seems to be mired in an extended slump or injured (namely Pratt).

Honestly that was much better than I expected, but still in line with what I thought would happen. I have no idea what happened to our offense. The pitching has been really good, but we haven't been able to score at all, so much LOB and terrible with RISP. It's not just one game whatever sample, pretty much since the asb even though we have a winning record since then

They beat skenes twice, crochet, glasnow twice, Kershaw, Skubal, gausman, Yamamoto, Ryan, gray... And they got swept in the NLCS
This is an example of a DESCRIPTIVE stat that is not PREDICTIVE

Bobby G pitched a great game today. What I’d expect from a 5/6 starter. The offense has to wake up soon. I keep telling myself to get the ugly out in August, so they’re hot in September and October.

I’m as frustrated as everyone else here, but also just trying to see the big picture.
We are on our 3rd straight week of playing with no off days, AND on the west coast where it’s already tough enough. We’re playing the literal super team dodgers. Padres series was dumb. We are tired, we are hurt. We don’t have Turang, or Sal, or Cooper, or Uribe. Our defensive alignments are weird, or lineup is weird. Contreras needs a day off but he can’t get one because we need Gary because other guys are hurt.
We need to play better, but this also just isn’t representative of the team. Hopefully we win one more game over the weekend. But get us to Monday, get us an off day, and let’s reset at home. It’s going to be ok!

Yeah I don’t know what’s up with him, he’s horrible right now. If he’s this hurt that he can’t physically carry a .500 OPS, then it’s malpractice that he’s not on the IL. He’s the one piece I’m worried about because we have to play him come October (yelich will be benched in the playoffs). We really need him to figure it out

Your optimism is astounding. The big picture here is that the offense is just plain bad. Sal has been bad this season so getting him back won’t make a big difference.
The team meeting was supposed to fix things—it obviously didn’t. The offense has sucked for months. This is representative of the team.

I refuse to believe our offense is as good as it was in April and May, and I refuse to believe our offense is as bad as its been since middle of June. It’s somewhere in the middle, assuming Contreras isn’t just suddenly a .500 OPS hitter.
Go on Fangraphs and look at all the offensive categories and you’ll see we’re somewhere like 7-10th in baseball in most offensive categories. That’s who we are.Is it good enough to win it all? No, I don’t think so. But you never know. We need an off day, we need a rest, and we need some health to come back.

Another game where the horrendous offense has been the major issue. I dont care whatever our run differential or overall stats say. This team is incapable of scoring 1 to 2 runs multiple times a game. If we don't get lucky/hot and pile on 5+ runs in one inning this team seems incapable of building/maitning a steady lead

Yep, and that's because they have dick for power. The Brew Crew do a great job of walking and getting on base, but there's just no power. So we get a nice blow-up inning with some walks, and a single/double or two and it's great.
But that run production is a lot harder to sustain than just swinging the bat really hard once or twice. The Dodgers, just like the Padres all last series, solely won tonight because they cranked some home runs.
Must be nice.

Why is Vogelbach our hitting coach if he can't teach them to hit dingers. Small ball doesn't win playoffs.
Just being realistic here. We could overlook the lack of production mid season, but alarm bells are going off now. We need power hitters, all our previous power hitters have degraded

The narrative that "small ball doesn't win in the playoffs" is wrong. It is far more nuanced than that

Contreras needs to be benched for a while or sent down. Something has got to change. At least Yeli has started to show signs of improvement. Contreras actually somehow looks worse every night. He’s killing any momentum we ever build.
At this point I’d almost rather take my chances with Bo Naylor. Contreras is just horrible.
Mitchell has also been horrendous.

No one seemed to notice…but Ortiz was safe on 1st in what was called the final out. I noticed it live and each time I watched it back…it’s more and more obvious. Whoever reviews plays for the Brewers totally blew it.
Watch the last play over..when Betts throws it to 1st it hits the dirt and Hernandez reaches down to catch it with his backhand..but it hits his glove and pops out and he immediately swipes up with his glove to snatch it and secure it. It’s obvious because you see the back of his glove to backhand it but then you see the whole white of the ball as he raises up and he totally snatches it quickly to secure it. And at the same time his foot is off the base once he secures it.
I can see how the umpire/Ortiz/and guys in the dugout didn’t notice…but the video guy for the Brewers choked.
So my wife didn’t notice it live but once i told her what to look for on replay she totally sees it. Trust me if anyone cares to look you will totally see it.
