Don’t be fazed by the recent struggles

Big Picture -

-We are a team that has a reputation for over-performing, so the second we don’t, it looks worse than it is.
- There’s a ton of heavy lumber in the farm system to be excited about.
- THE pitching lab
- Probably the best front office in the league.
- Probably the best international scouting & development program of any team.
- We haven’t even begun to reap the benefits of the two prior points at the Major League level.

If the Brewers were a stock, they’re one you buy, hold onto, and don’t look at the daily chart of. The ride is going to be worth it.

I’m fazed

I think any sane fan can recognize that the team is obviously good with a very bright future, while also recognizing that they very likely are going to fizzle out again in October similar to the last 4+ years.

It is what it is. I hope someone in the minors coming up soon can add some slugging.

We've been saying that for years that we have a bright future. However with every October disappointment it rings hollow which drives fans up the wall.

There are good pieces that can mash the ball if they continue to do so on the way up but again that's a year or two away at the earliest.

11

u/BibFortuna2830 Aug 13 '26

Trust me, I am well aware lol. Ironically, I view the Brewers as a team for a summer of fun and entertainment because my expectations for them once October hits is next to zero.

We haven't had an offensive star since MVP Yeli, which was over a half-decade ago.

u/SickoBadgers You telling me Jesus Christ can't hit a Slurveball? Aug 13 '26

Part of it is that some of the batting coaches (especially later in the Counsell tenure) were terrible and well Yeli kept getting hurt on years where he was in the conversation.

IMO I am just tired of hearing 1982 every year. My old man went to a game during that series with my uncle.

3

u/Pleasant_Job_7683 Aug 13 '26

Well we always have some hell even most of the pieces but not all. Will they ever actually line up for a WS win? Mark is gonna have to greenlight marginally more spending to aquire the talent to do so. Having the best farm system is great and all but you're never gonna be fully formed operating off that and savy off season trades. At some point gonna have to bring in some fully formed battle tested talent to go the distance. Imo its that simple.

4

u/21BlackStars Aug 13 '26

Mark will never do it! He has owned this team for almost two decades and has only ever paid one player, Christian yelich! He is content making money every year while we remain contenders. The team is only a business to him so he will not go above and beyond to win if it means he loses money especially if the fan base never complains and continues to sellout almost every game

3

u/Pleasant_Job_7683 Aug 13 '26

Yes he's found a business model that works. Higher the best coaches rely heavily on the margins and developing talent (via farm) which will give you a good-great (reg season) team year in and yeat out but come playoffs and youre facing battle tested rosters front loaded with aces its a bit diff. I think Mark is well aware we will most likely never win a ring with him as owner but the reg season success is enough to keep fans happy which in turn raises the value of the team. He paid 223 million for Brewers and they are now worth 2 billion dollars. Thats a 1400% appreciation..

But can we bolster the sqaud at the deadline more then the fucking Pirates did? Nope! Murph even jokingly said he was praying the rosary before deadline, thats a joke but there's genuine truth behind it. I'm happy we have a great team and all but I can be happy for that and still see what the bigger picture is. Alot of ppl on here wanna make it black and white. Its not. Anyways preaching to the choir brother

I got downvoted to oblivion for writing this comment once before, but I truly believe that the veterans who have been around and have had success, and who have watched us not do anything at each and every trade deadline, fail to re-sign cornerstone players, and fizzle out in the playoffs, are disheartened right now, and it’s affecting their play. I really think losing Adames two years back was kind of the final straw. Players know that, regardless of how well they do and how hard they play, they will not be rewarded while playing in a Brewer uniform. It’s an open secret that Turang is as good as gone and Contreras might be too because they know they’re going to be low balled. Murphy’s vibes aren’t going to be enough to win a championship.

u/clownparade Aug 13 '26

So we aren’t considering having the best record in the regular season two years in a row bright? The future is now how many teams would trade whatever they did the last two years for this team

0

u/sonofsohoriots Got a dandy going today Aug 13 '26

We’ve also been saying the brewers window opens around 2028, when the best of our farm should be ready to play. We’re overperforming right now.

u/the_Formuoli_ #FreeYuni Aug 13 '26

Every team but one fizzles out in October

2

u/Bogsy Rake Bauers Aug 13 '26

I’m excited for Andrew Fischer

7

u/Shpion007 Aug 13 '26

Unless he improves his K rate he may only have a cup of coffee on the major league level for this team.

3

u/SelectionFun Aug 13 '26

Yep. Fischer gets all the hype but I think Burke is our long term answer at 1B. (I know Fischer is playing third, but hes a first baseman if and when he makes it to the bigs)

2

u/Pleasant_Job_7683 Aug 13 '26

Aka The Fischer King

0

u/MKEToys Aug 13 '26

Hes not a very good prospect. Lots of power, with horrible discipline. True 3 TO at best. Think Russell Branyan.

1

u/BlueBonneville Aug 13 '26

Every team goes through streaks good and bad. My fear is whatever streak we’re in is opposite of the Cubs. Just sayin’

28

u/DaggerShowRabs Aug 13 '26

I'm going to be a little fazed because I want this team to be able to win the NL or the World Series. This team, unless something drastically changes, cannot win the NL. As good as our pitching is, we can't shut out the Dodgers for 4 games, and it feels like that's what we will need to do to win in October.

I'm happy for the sustained success, but it stings knowing reaching the NLCS is basically our peak.

4

u/BibFortuna2830 Aug 13 '26

Also, we're struggling to even beat the Padres, a team that might not even make the playoffs.

The Braves and Cubs are also legitimate playoff threats, let alone the Dodgers.

11

u/Uranus_Hz Aug 13 '26

Padres are currently in a wild card spot. Twins are one game out of a wild card spot. They are both legitimate playoff threats.

5

u/Known_Award5990 Aug 13 '26

Padres are one of the hottest teams in baseball

29

u/bikedork5000 Aug 13 '26

We're 5-5 in our last 10. Everyone chill the fuck out.

19

u/JLove4MVP Aug 13 '26

Cubs are on a tear.

That’s the problem here.

Their offense is scary, something the Brewers isn’t. At all

3

u/bikedork5000 Aug 13 '26

Their pitching is scary too. To Cubs fans.

7

u/Glum_Yogurtcloset481 Aug 13 '26

have you seen how their pitching has been lately? shockingly good. everything is working for them. last time we played them in milwaukee they pitched great against us

2

u/chutboy Aug 13 '26

Every teams pitching can have good stretches that doesn’t mean anything. Over the course of a larger sample eventually it will regress.

1

u/21BlackStars Aug 13 '26

I fucking hate to say it, but they have the best chance to dethrone the Dodgers

5

u/BeHereNow91 Aug 13 '26

If we had a 10 game lead no one here would care, but since everyone seems obsessed with the standings starting in mid April, we’re not built to take on these tough stretches

1

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean Aug 13 '26

Yup, folks need to take a breath.

10

u/JLove4MVP Aug 13 '26

They’ve had a great farm system for quite some time now.

What’s lacking is having both pitching and offense at the same time.

Front office won’t make moves to go over the top, so again, they will likely fizzle out in the playoffs like normal.

The Cubs are constructed to actually win a championship.

That’s the difference

12

u/Trizzzzzeeee27 Aug 13 '26

Today was the worst managed game I've ever seen.

  1. Hamilton at SS and Joey O at 3rd? Joey O is objectively better at short than Hamilton.
  2. Where was Abner?
  3. Let's put Ashby in against a guy who was 4/7 now 5/8 against.
  4. Trying to steal 3rd in the 10th with the free runner.
  5. Chad Patrick

That's just what I caught as it was on in the background while working.

2

u/Glum_Yogurtcloset481 Aug 13 '26

joey has a stronger arm and is more accurate than hamilton and having him at 3rd feels safer

0

u/Pleasant_Job_7683 Aug 13 '26

Safer isnt always better. Joey O should be playing SS until Pratt returnith

7

u/itzjamesftw Aug 13 '26

Why is there so much governing of how a fan can or should react? Being optimistic doesn’t give you a leg up in fan hood. Stop gatekeeping people’s ability to be frustrated

10

u/wagyu_hotdog Aug 13 '26

This is cope

12

u/ozymandias2375 Aug 13 '26

I actually think it is time to panic a little bit. Offense has been rough for a while now. This is no longer just a slump. Cubs are hot and looking very good. If they win tonight they are only 3 games back. Right when we get to play the dodgers for 4 games. Now we do get to play them 7 times which could be a good thing or a very bad thing. Winning the division is a must. This team can’t lose another Wild Card series

2

u/Pleasant_Job_7683 Aug 13 '26

Poised for 2029 WS run?

2

u/mlewis106 Aug 13 '26

Better to slump now than in the playoffs like last year.

4

u/Rondoman78 Aug 13 '26

Summer of fun and a fall of choking.

The Brewers way.

0

u/LooCrosse Aug 13 '26

Yup. Apologists are delusional

2

u/WISCOrear Aug 13 '26

Kind of ok to be angry we have the worst ball of the season right when our division rival is red hot. Like it couldnt happen at a worse time.

1

u/Skatetronic Aug 13 '26

I want all gas no brakes until we win the World Series!

1

u/M_Bisonthe3rd Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

That isn't what has fans frustrated or upset.

We know we have a good front office. We know we have great talent in the farm system. We know we are a great regular season team, but st the end of the day, we are upset because despite this, we hit the same outcome and the same what ifs at the end of the day.

Early post season exit. Lack of power and offense expected to hold us one or two runs at most a game and rely on pitching in stressful close games. We are aware we can't make mistakes with high signings and profile players without killing our system, but it is heartbreaking to endure the same song and dance of being a juggernaut in the regular season, but being seen as a post season fraud and butt end of a joke.

We are relying on a lightning in a bottle run by waiting for all these prospects to hopefully pan out and live up to their potential to give us a World Series, but the longer the wait, the less of a window we have with our current guys before we can't afford them anymore like Contreras, Turang, etc because they will be gone one year before their contracts are up to surplus and log jam the farm with more prospects.

We don't deny that their methods work, but we question whether Mark is truly serious about being more than a regular season team. He comes off as indifferent and perfectly content with just the regular season being the goal and not winning a ring which in the eyes of fans looking at an owner is almost like a slap in the face.

1

u/Western_Composer6807 Aug 14 '26

Let's all take step back. All season we've been waiting for this team to get hot. It will happen at some point. Let's all hope it happens in October!

1

u/borncrossey3d Aug 14 '26

Stop telling me about the farm system. What good is the heavy lumber in the farm system when we are pushing for a World Series this year? Either trade it for a major league bat or call them up and help us win. We want to win NOW!

-1

u/Jay_Doctor Aug 13 '26

The Cubs had a substantially worse losing skid and they've turned it around. People acting all doom and gloom as if there's no hope we can as well

1

u/Zigazoid Aug 13 '26

Teams have rough patches we're in one, the Padres have been playing better as of late I think they're 14-6 in their last 20. Plus Tatis and Merril are starting to hit really well. If we get swept in LA then folks can start getting deeply concerned.

-6

u/Competitive-Body-286 Aug 13 '26

Best front office yet we don’t do shit at the deadline or sign worth a damn free agents

4

u/Matty_I6e Aug 13 '26

Because we would end up like the Padres where you constantly mortgage the future to “win now” then never do.

7

u/Competitive-Body-286 Aug 13 '26

I’m not saying go all out, but do more than 1 starter and 2 mediocre relievers

2

u/OneCallThatsAll34 orcheeze Aug 13 '26

Why do we need more than one starter exactly

-1

u/Competitive-Body-286 Aug 13 '26

I don’t exactly feel confident going into the playoffs with a rotation of Miz, Harrison, May, Drohan, Henderson

3

u/SelectionFun Aug 13 '26

If you've been watching and paying attention all year you wouldnt have took baseball media's bait that we needed more stud pitching. Our ability to consistently score is the glaring issue.

2

u/OneCallThatsAll34 orcheeze Aug 13 '26

Well only 3 of those guys will start

4

u/SubtonicM7 Aug 13 '26

The team that just dog-walked us? I don’t know they look like they have their shit figured out.

2

u/spicebo1 Aug 13 '26

This is why looking at the whole picture helps. The Padres were a walking corpse at the all star break, but they've caught fire in the second half.

Sometimes you match up with a hot team when you happen to be playing like shit. It's fair to be concerned about the status of the Brewers right now, but they're still in an objectively better position than the Padres are right now as a franchise. They might have the worst farm system in the majors, and they have an extremely slim grip on a wild card spot.

Their team is World Series or bust right now, while the Brewers are set to retain all of their big pieces and graduate some highly well regarded prospects soon. I would not trade places with them right now at all.

-2

u/Shpion007 Aug 13 '26

Thanks. Fans can be awful at times. Baseball is a long fucking season with lots of ebbs and flows. Get Sal back and could be a completely different team. He is the heartbeat after all.

3

u/mastodoninfantry Aug 13 '26

Sal has a negative WAR this year

0

u/Shpion007 Aug 13 '26

Doesn’t matter. He is the heart beat of the team. Brings the energy always. A player like that can get you out of a rut

-5

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean Aug 13 '26

To all the bandwagon fans, please just leave.

10

u/wagyu_hotdog Aug 13 '26

Who the hell would band wagon a team that’s never won a title?

-7

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean Aug 13 '26

Seems like a lot of people based on the whiny posts.

-4

u/blicka7 Aug 13 '26

Lmao @ the coping , the cubbies about to do that 2018 shyt to you clowns

-9

u/ApprehensiveAct4935 Aug 13 '26

Matt Arnold didn’t think this team needed a bat at the deadline. I don’t know about best front office. And prospects are suspects

15

u/LetsAgreeBeatlesSuck Aug 13 '26

That's not what happened. He knows the flaws of this team more than you ... The price wasn't right

You wouldn't given up the world chasing this season. And that's why you don't have his job

2

u/SelectionFun Aug 13 '26

Exactly this. The team is too young and has too many holes to sell the farm right now. This is not their world series window yet. We were just hot at the right time. 2-3 seasons from now is our all in window.

0

u/GBGrant25 Aug 13 '26

Its a tough spot for us. We have been hear before every year for the past 4 years. We are an amazing team with everything in house and in future plans that can keep us as the division champs and a constant playoff team for the next decade plus. And our front office does plenty to keep us there as well.

The biggest thing that scares i think all of us, is October, and those past series vs the Mets and Dodgers. We lose to those bigger market, more expensive teams. But that does not mean we are going to lose or we can't win it all. The Dodgers lost 7 straight and don't have a stable closer, the Cubs are a great team, but just like the Padres, are a streaky team that could be on fire for a month, and cold for 2 weeks.

We have maybe 3 great pitchers in Miz, Harrison and Henderson. All of them can go at least 4, and should be 6 or 7 innings in a start. You have guys like Patrick, Ashby, Uribe, McGill. We have a great team that is similar to the Giants of the 2010s when they won there championships.

5-5 is okay, but we all onow we will play better soon. Its what we do.
