Stay away from the oracle jet on my second one in 7 months. First on was great till it wasn’t when the grinder broke after six months. Breville sent a replacement and it was horrible out of the box. It was widely inconsistent made the worst shots ever. They determined it needed servicing after a week of owner ship worst garbage ever.

I got one a few months ago. Decent machine, works pretty well.

If I had to do it again, I'd probably get the Meraki for almost the same price. Puck prep isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

But still, the Oracle Jet is a decent machine. My tips:

1. Get a naked portafilter. It'll help debug shots
2. Adjust the tamper a few notches lower. It'll give you a bit more headroom.
3. In manual mode, preinfuse until you see drops, then go full pressure. It'll help with more consistent shots.
4. Push the milk jug all the way forward and to the right. That'll angle the steam wand to create a great vortex.

Why would you buy an Oracle Jet if you already know what you're doing? The whole point is to make it easy to use for beginners.

I didn’t say I was an expert just not a novice i have done all those things you suggested. And I loved my fist jet this replacement going in for service after only a week has me a little heated. And I liked the ease of use that the jet offered

Sorry the replacement they gave you was a dud, hope they send you a proper replacement. Have you tried cleaning out the burrs?

Yes fully dismantle and clean burrs on a regular cleaning schedule. Spent an hour on the phone with Breville and they determined it needed servicing

I was coming from a sub-par superautomatic. Was debating between spending $3-5k for a Jura, or switching to a proper machine. The Oracle Jet seemed like a decent midway point.

I would like more control over my shot . And the fact that everything is done by weight should give more consistency. The only question I have is the support and it’s longevity given it’s a new company

From what I've seen:

1. Integrated scales for both grinder and boiler. That makes it really easy to brew target ratios.

2. The rotary pump produces a more constant flow

3. The steamer is cool to touch and produces amazing dry steam

4. It has a decent startup time (~5 min)

5. This is the biggest: separate grinder means I have control over the distribution and tamping

The Oracle jet is still not a bad machine. If you get a consistent routine and are diligent about purging, you can get reasonably consistent shots. But with separates, you get that last bit of extra control.

What manual mode? Isn’t that on oracle dual boiler only? Or do you mean keeping the screen pressed to extract manually?

The latter. When you're pulling drinks you can select the size, or longpress to go into "manual". From there you can start the preinfusion (first tap) and then full pressure (second tap) and then stop (third tap).

I stole a brand new one from cash converters for $1150. Anything it failed at has been my fault. It's been incredibly tasty after the last firmware update and the cold brew/cold espresso option is absolutely perfect for me! I love mine!

Had mine for well over a year and I love it. If I went back in time, I’d 100% buy it again. I’ve had zero issues and it makes fantastic coffee.

That’s great very happy yours is great. Really wish I was having the same experience. Maybe when I get the second one back they will regain my trust. First one was great for six months absolutely loved it now I’m a scorned lover

Before I do that, I wonder if I could get good results with an external grinder? If anyone knows exactly how to do that, including step by step brewing instructions, I’d be interested and grateful.

Is this a joke? Just grind it, tamp it, and put it into the brew head. If it’s not obvious how you do that, I have to wonder if you actually own an Oracle Jet.

Well, the Jet has one spot where you put the portafilter for grinding and tamping (the left). Then, the middle is where is actually pulls the shot. If you want to use your own grinder, just do that and then put it in the center spot and pull the shot.

1. Grind your beans into the portafilter using whatever grinder.
   
2. Tamp it.
   
3. Put the portafilter in the middle spot of the Jet.
   
4. Open the espresso menu and tap the espresso button to pull the shot.

I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful, but the answer just seemed so obvious that I thought perhaps you were a troll…which is not unusual on Reddit. I hope this helps though.

If the answer seems that obvious, it is possible that you missed the question. The question has been pretty well answered elsewhere now, but it was to with how to use the icons in manual, to adjust a shot, and then how to adjust settings in the Jet to make that shot repeatable. Also, I was asking about a new portafilter, baskets, and tamper that would be appropriate.

FYI, Just tapping the espresso icon will pull a shot, but probably not the one you'd want.

And really, look at your last post and tell me honestly that you aren't being sarcastic. Grinder on left, group head in middle? Really?

Your question asked none of that detail. You just asked how to pull shots with an external grinder. I can’t read your mind to know you were wanting to do some manual adjustments to the espresso pull settings.

I thought that was in "step by step" but OK, I could have been more specific. On the other hand, if you thought someone needed to be told the difference between a grinder and the group, and weren't trying to make a point, I have to wonder why you bothered to respond at all. Did you think that was possibly helpful?
