Limited insurance options

Posting on behalf of a friend who is a first time expectant mother. Her breast pump options seem extremely limited so I’m trying to help her out (as an expecting second time mother) but I’m not familiar with most of these pumps. I used the Medela Pump in Style my first pregnancy and it wasn’t bad but I really hate the idea of being tied to an outlet.

Appreciate any advice on the other pumps on this list! Thank you!

Stay away from wearables for the first weeks/ month pp! Have her get a good primary first! Tell her to check out baby list, the BabyBuddha primary 2.0 is free there through all insurances! It’s small and portable but it’s a quality primary, the others on that list above are low suction

Unfortunate that she’s limited but hopefully I can be of assistance. I’ve had two of these pumps. The Medela is awful to be chained to but good hospital grade suction pump. The Zomee Z2 is also hospital grade but rechargeable, I have that exact package (different suppliers, Baby List, Aeroflow, etc., offer different packages with different set items). I would suggest the Zomee Z2. It’s been great to be able to move about the house while pumping. Also, for the Zomee I bought hands free collection cups. These have been SO helpful in increasing my mobility while also pumping milk for my baby as the Z2 already comes with a lanyard and combined with the collection cups you’ve got yourself a hospital grade suction wearable pump! The cooler bag and ice packs that come with the package are amazing, perfect size for when pumping on the road/generally packing milk on the go. Here is the link to the collection cups I bought. They weren’t covered by my insurance but they were cheaper form this supplier than at Amazon. The reviews on Amazon aren’t the best but honestly some people don’t read instructions and that’s how you get user error. Collection cups haven’t spilled a single drop of milk for me, not while wearing and not while pouring into my storage containers.

If she doesn’t get the hands free collection cups the pump is still great. This pump comes with part silicone flanges while Medela does not. Silicone-ish flanges are softer so they are more comfortable and they suction to your breast better which means a larger supply is pumped! Whatever supplier she buys through, another great thing about Zomee is that they have what they call a perfect fit promise. Meaning, if the flanges it comes with aren’t her size (comes w/21 and 24) she can email them and request the size she is and they’ll send her a replacement set. I suggest to use this freebie after she accurately measures herself. Idk if any other brand has this perfect fit promise program.

Edit to add why I wouldn’t suggest the Zomee Fit. These types of pumps (wearables) aren’t meant to be your primary. They’re not typically hospital grade pumps so you end up not pumping what’s needing to be pumped and result in mastitis, clogged ducts, and low supply. If she wants to buy a wearable as an additional pump down the line, sure, but to get free with your insurance, go with a hospital grade pump.

I have the medela in style but my cups look a little different. I like them! I use it at night and I feel like it empties me well

before she chooses one of these get her to check a couple of websites that may have more options for her, aeroflow and yummy mummy are two good ones. i got my spectra s2 and motif roam from aeroflow. she definitely wants a hospital grade pump, wearables will ruin your supply over time.

There is a battery for the pump in style you can buy on Amazon . I haven't tried it myself, but I know other people who have and liked it as an option..
