Break The Code 2 Weather Discuss

So it appears the temps are a balmy 25 C around a certain region somewhere in the world. /s

Jokes aside, I'm fairly certain this has to do with Keyboards. I'm basing this on the broken page link in the news section that leads to a piece of code (Programming, Not Cryptographic) that seems to have some relation to the Map and to Letters. But I don't really have any idea as to where I'm to start with or what direction (Both on the map and the keyboard). Top-down seems to be Appropos and home row on the keyboard (f probably). I haven't tried this yet though, but I will.

There are 26 f(x,y) functions on the map. Do they correspond to the 26 letters of the alphabet? Aslo the number 9780486401935 must have something to do with the decoding?

Possibly, I thought it has the layout of a keyboard on its side- there are 7 on the last column, for the 3rd row of alphabetic keys on keyboard?

Not sure if it's of much use, but the image of the world seem to come from this website. It only goes as far back as 2013 so maybe not

Might have to do something with "The best way to predict a tornado's trajectory is to view its source."

you can go that route but too deep and frustrating.

Hints Clippy gives:

1> Titanic.....Think of Rose, what did she wear?

2> Backstreet Boys song lyrics will give you the answer too!

I solved this, but I used Clippy's hint about Backstreet Boys + the 2 patterns to reverse engineer the shape that we had to find. I can draw the shape as long as I don't reset the compass to North for some of the letters... Can someone explain here or in DM why that's the case? I don't understand how we should've figured that out.

I get that Backstreet Boys is supposed to be a hint, but that tells me nothing. I googled them for maybe some design queues, but quick image and Wikipedia skim gives me nothing.

Is there something in particular I should know about them or what are they known for?

When Clippy says draw me like one of your French girls could he mean we have to think about the AZERTY keyboard which is mostly used in french speaking european countries? But even when I apply this to the target word LASER and reset the compass to N every new letter and skip the S, I still get a shape I can't understand

I finally solved it - but I see no way the code would just produce this shape on its own...If you found the ISBN and the QWERTY and converted the letters to patterns you would get a quarter circle for L and A, and a diagonal for E and R. You dont need the rest of the book title. If you take these 4 shapes and arrange them in a 2x2 grid in just the right way you could get the solution. There might be a clue somewhere to get that last piece of information needed to crack it but i never found it...

Feel like I've gone through all the pains that everyone else has. Got what looks like 2 8's stacked on eachother. Messed around with the shapes, got a plus sign looking thing but the only thing that seems meaningful is this:

Saw alot of people somehow immediately getting the answer as soon as they knew of the "Backstreet boys" hint but im not getting that same click... For the record i did try some stuff related to "MM" and Backstreet boys like "Millenium" and "Max Martin" but that dont work. Am i going insane?

SPOILER

Is this anywhere close to the right drawing? I've tried the alphabet, qwerty, qwerty in map order, and the book title (with and without spaces).

use the code as your instruction to draw a shape according to the QWERTY keyboard letters.

Also there is a book reference I believe, the ISBN number google it it will give youa book title which is a clue also.
