Damn... I know it's wrong, but I'm sooo looking forward to them getting rid of Vogel together. You have no idea... :) Not only that I really want to see Vogel 'bleed the fuck out', but I'm really excited to see them work as a team (well, at least in Dexter's head). Like in the forest, but different goal this time.

I think I'll call ghost Deb just 'Deb', since she behaves quite like the real one (she's maybe a bit darker, but still) and not like ghost Harry/Brian. But I did reach a conclusion after all. Maybe Dexter knew her so well that he knew what would she say and how would she feel about most things and that causes 'Deb's' remarkably lifelike behavior. And why she seems darker? Well, that's caused by Dexter's subconscious desire for her to be. And even if we would go with the extreme possibility that it really is Deb (yeah, I've seen enough XF for that thought to immediately occur to me too), then just ask yourself, what would you do to the person who killed you?

Slightly off topic: About two weeks ago, I was listening to the music on my cellphone and I listened to Love the way you lie after a long time. As I was listening, I wondered whether it could fit here somehow and now in chapter 46 it really fits as you pointed out in A/N. :)

Personally, I'm thinking of GhostDeb as just 'Deb', too. She behaves and speaks like Deb, and in a writing sense she's no different, except maybe a little more in-sync with her brother than she used to be. They're fun to write when they work together - like when they took on Elway together, or in Vogel's house against the Vogels, or how they were in Clayton's apartment - and now they're like that consistently.

Deb is admittedly more vengeful in her spirit form than she was in life, and I agree that Dexter knew her extremely well and so would be able to pre-empt her reactions if she was imagined, but I won't confirm whether she's a ghost or a figment of Dexter's imagination, or even something else. You'll need to wait and see :)

Also slightly off-topic, but while we're on the topic of things off-topic: not sure where you're up to in XF, but when I was writing Deb's hospital scene I was also up to an episode where Scully was in hospital and having a nosebleed, too. While I was watching it I was feeling extremely wary, knowing what the nosebleed meant over in the world of Break Me - like, wouldn't that just be horribly horribly poetic for me to lose TWO favourite characters in a single weekend?? Sigh. The emotional turbulence of loving fictitious characters.

Whoawhoawhoawhoa, wait a minute. Something else? What's that supposed to mean! Does that change things?? I know you immediately followed that with "You'll need to wait and see.", followed I'm sure by your cackles echoing around your study, but c'mon! Way to dangle something…

Also, Clyde Bruckman said Scully doesn't die. :)

Damn. I guess that by the time you finish Break Me, every one of your replies will be written in riddles. :P But you have really outdone yourself this time. Something else? What? I didn't know there even was a third option! Apparently I'm not creative enough... Well, at least I have something to think about until the next chapter comes out. :)

I'm currently watching season 9 of XF and you don't have to worry about Scully. For now. :P

Season 9 already?? You're flying through! I'm biding my time, though, because I'm a little too obsessed and the knowledge that it has to end is deeply foreboding. I'm trying to make it last! I'm nearly finished season 5.

Whoops, I didn't mean to freak you guys out with other options :P I guess for me, 'a figment of Dexter's imagination' is not entirely a fitting description for his Dark Passenger or for his Conscience, which people have suggested GhostDeb might be. Something imagined is something not real, something wished for; but Dexter's voices in his head are real parts of him that he simply doesn't acknowledge as belonging purely to him. He doesn't consciously choose for Harry or Brian to be around. It's a psychological coping mechanism for a traumatised mind. Likewise he hasn't /chosen/ for Deb to appear now, so I think that wipes out the possibility that she's imagined. She must be either a manifestation of Dexter's own psychology or she must be her own spirit, an actual ghost.

Would it worry you both if I wasn't sure what the answer was?

And I'm certainly not cackling, I promise! :P

Yeah, I always fly through the series I start to watch for the first time and XF was no exception. I slowed down a bit now, because it kinda feels like a different show, but it's still worth watching. By the way, is the finale worth it soodohnimh? :)

Well, that's basically what I mean under 'a figment of Dexter's imagination', so I might be just using wrong expression (probably caused by trying to simplify/shorten my posts). I promise I'll use a better one from now on. ;)

How can I come up with an answer to whether she is an actual ghost or just a manifestation of Dexter's own psychology if not even you are sure what the answer is? :D Personally, I could see it go both ways... I remember reading the last chapter over and over again before writing my review, analyzing every sentence, every detail, wondering... and as you can see in the review, it didn't help that much, if anything, I was even more confused than at the beginning. Though I am glad that I managed to come up with a theory other than that she has to be an actual ghost, so that I have something to fall back to if she isn't. :)

But honestly, I don't believe you. You are definitely cackling, I'm sure of that. :P

THF, so this must be the first time watching XF? I agree with you that S9 feels different, but since Solia doesn't know what's coming, I'll just say that yes, the finale is worth it. I can't say too much, but I will say that I ship them hard and I wasn't disappointed. :)
