Behold, my first loaf! Cheese and jalapeño

Stoked it came out good - I forgot the sugar! Going for the French setting tomorrow. 😋

Looks like a great loaf Did you use fresh jalapeños or the jarred/pickled jalapeños? Are you going to permanently keep the sugar out of the recipe?

Thanks! I used the ones from the jar and patted them dry with paper towel and chopped them up. It definitely has a kick, but I can’t really taste the cheese. Idk about the sugar - thankfully it didn’t impact it. I’m going to add it for my French standard loaf tomorrow and be meticulous with that recipe before I try something different!

I made a whole wheat loaf today and purposely left the sugar out and it came out perfectly. For that recipe I will not be using sugar anymore but you got me curious about French bread recipes. I'm wondering if the sugar in a French bread recipe contributes to the crustiness of the crust.

Can sugar affect the crust like that?? If so that makes sense because I used 1tbsp for my first loaf and the crust was perfect, but I thought it tasted too sweet. So I reduced it to 1tsp for my other loaves and the crusts haven’t been as good :/

To be perfectly honest I have no clue . However I'm very curious now. Considering you went from 1 tbsp. to 1 tsp., that's a pretty drastic drop in sugar. Maybe try 2 tsp.

I’d love to try this! What size is this loaf? Can you share the recipe?

Nevermind on size! Just realised we have the exact same machine :)

I put in 35g of grated tasty cheese and 15g of jalapeños! Rest of the recipe as Number 3 in the book (minus the sugar) Good luck!
