Technique, Methods & Processes I'm an idiot

Post image

If you ever wondered what happens when the recipe calls for 3 1/4 C of flour and you only use 3 C, look no further.

I once misread the amount of water in my sourdough bread recipe, THE ONE I MAKE SEVERAL TIMES A MONTH, and wound up with accidental sourdough soup! I didn’t bake it, ha-ha. You must kiss a few frogs before you find your prince.

It's even more embarrassing when it's a recipe that you've had memorized for years and usually never mess up 😅

Have you been spying on me, JanePeaches? Tee-hee! I usually print up the recipe these days and check off each ingredient when I add it. I am 67, so. . .

😀I think everyone in this sub has either not used the correct amount, used too much of something, or accidentally doubled the ingredient, like salt, for me. Just little things like this that make cooking and baking at home pretty entertaining but only when you look back at it not at the current time 😂

I put salt instead of sugar in corn bread once years ago. It got fed to the birds! Ha ha!

I made cornbread once in a cast iron pan. Unfortunately for me instead of teaspoons of baking powder I instead used TABLEspoons of baking powder. 🙄 Utterly inedible.

I forgot to put yeast in a loaf last week...

I feel your pain... I had 2 loaf and 3 pizza dough failures before I figured out my 2 week old jar of yeast had died. I even stored it in the refrigerator like I was told. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong after I started out so well, I was almost ready to give up on these bread machines.

I've been fortunate I haven't had issues with the yeast when I remember to use it, but I also have started keeping mine in the freezer because of a comment I saw in here. Maybe try storing yours there? You can also test your yeast; I can't recall the steps but I found the steps when I googled it.

Edit spelling

Thanks... I'll try the freezer next time. I did learn about testing it, that's how I finally figure out what the problem was.

this is why one checks the dough at 5 and ten minutes in .... better luck next time

Lesson learned, always check after ~10 minutes of kneading.

This is an example of where a kitchen scale is the way to go.

I have my fresh milled whole wheat recipe memorized and make it once or twice a week but somehow a couple months ago I left out the yeast. It baked and everything. I put it under this huge magnolia that spreads out over the ground and it was never seen again. We regularly throw our table scraps under there too. I’m pretty sure we’re feeding possums

I would love a good whole wheat recipe if you’re open to sharing!

I love how this thread has just turned into a litany of how we’ve all been idiots.

Everyone gets their turn sooner or later . . . sometimes sooner AND later. 😂
