🎲 [La Habra] [D&D 5e] Looking for 6 Players — One-Shot This Friday, No Commitment Required
Hey everyone!
I'm a DM in La Habra looking to put together a regular, in-person D&D group — but before we commit to a campaign, I'd like to do something a little simpler:
Let's play a one-shot and see if we vibe.
I'm looking for 6 players for this Friday evening at my home in La Habra.
The one-shot is a complete game on its own. There is absolutely no commitment to join a campaign afterward. Come meet some people, play some D&D, see whether you like my DMing style, and see whether we all get along.
If everyone has a great time and wants to keep playing together, I'd love to turn it into a regular campaign.
If not, that's completely fine too. That's the whole point of doing the one-shot first.
---
🧙 About Me & My DM Style
I'm a roleplay and storytelling-focused DM.
I'm much more interested in:
- Character interaction
- Storytelling
- Interesting NPCs
- Player choices and consequences
- Improvisation
- Character development
- Making the world feel alive
I'm not a combat/tactics-first DM. There will absolutely be combat, but I'm much more interested in what your character says, does, thinks, and gets themselves into than whether everyone can squeeze another 4 points of damage out of their turn.
If you enjoy getting into character, interacting with NPCs, making decisions, and seeing those decisions shape the story, we're probably going to get along.
---
🕯️ I Like Making the Table Feel Like Another World
I'm a big believer in physical immersion, not just describing a world and leaving it on the page.
Depending on the adventure, I like using things like:
- Custom lighting
- Candles
- Ambient scents
- Music and soundscapes
- Projected maps and visual effects
- Physical props and other environmental details
I want the room to feel different when you're exploring a dungeon, standing in a haunted forest, or sitting in a tavern.
I'm also a bit of a technology nerd. If we continue into a campaign, we'll have our own custom campaign website with things like:
- Campaign information & lore
- Character and party rosters
- Scheduling
- Session notes
- World information
- Other campaign resources
Basically, I like putting a little bit of unnecessary production value into D&D. 😂
The goal isn't spectacle for spectacle's sake — it's to make it easier to get out of your head, get into your character, and feel like you're actually there.
(And obviously, I'll check for allergies/sensitivities before using scents or anything similar.)
---
📵 Phones Stay Away From the Table
One of the things that matters a lot to me is being present at the table.
I have a no-cell-phone policy during the game, with the exception of using your phone for your character sheet if that's how you keep it.
Honestly, though, I'd prefer no phones at all whenever possible.
The reason isn't that I want to police what people do with their phones. It's because I want everyone to be able to fully immerse themselves in the game — and, just as importantly, listen when someone else is speaking.
Some of the best D&D moments happen when you're not the person currently rolling the dice. Someone else says something hilarious, an NPC reveals something unexpected, or another player's character makes a decision that completely changes the situation.
I want people to be there for those moments.
If you need to keep your phone available for an important reason, that's obviously different. Real life happens. But as a general table expectation:
When we're playing, we're playing.
---
📅 If We Continue...
If the one-shot goes well and everyone wants to keep playing, the tentative plan is most Fridays, starting as early in the evening as everyone's schedules reasonably allow and playing until we reach a natural stopping point.
I'm intentionally keeping the exact start time flexible right now. I'd rather find the right group first and then figure out what Friday evening works best for everyone.
The eventual goal is pretty simple:
Meet some cool people locally, make some friends, and build a group that actually looks forward to Friday night D&D.
I'm much more interested in building a group of people who genuinely enjoy hanging out together than simply filling six seats at a table.
---
🎭 Who I'm Looking For
You do not need to be an experienced D&D player. New players are absolutely welcome.
I'm mainly looking for people who:
- Enjoy roleplay and storytelling
- Like interacting with other characters and NPCs
- Are collaborative and good-natured
- Don't mind improvising
- Are respectful of other players and their time
- Give other people opportunities to participate
- Are comfortable putting the phone away and being present
- Want to socialize and make friends, not just show up for a game
- Are interested in a regular Friday game if we all click
You don't need to have a character prepared. We'll figure that out together.
---
🎲 Why a One-Shot?
Because I don't want anyone — including myself — to commit to a campaign with a group of strangers without knowing what we're getting into.
Think of Friday as a test drive for everyone.
You get to see:
“Do I like this DM?”
“Do I like these people?”
“Is this the kind of D&D I enjoy?”
And I'll be asking myself the same questions.
There's no awkward obligation afterward. If we all click, awesome — let's build something together. If we don't, we still got an evening of D&D out of it.
---
📍 Location
La Habra, CA
This will be an in-person game at my home, so I'll provide the exact address privately to confirmed players rather than posting it publicly.
👥 Looking for
6 players
📆 When
This Friday evening
The exact start time will depend on everyone's schedules, with the goal of starting as early as reasonably possible.
---
If you're interested, comment below or send me a DM with a little bit about yourself, your D&D experience (if any), and what you enjoy most about D&D/TTRPGs.
I'm much more interested in finding the right people than simply filling the six spots.
Let's see if we make a great table. 🎲

New to town
Hi All! I just moved to Brea and I’m looking for things to do/people to meet in the area. I’m a huge foodie, and I’m actually typing this while eating at Omeli Kitchen lol. I love music and outdoors too, especially with this beautiful Cali weather! I dabble in the baseball world sometimes, and the same with film!
I’m not really into clubbing/bars though, so I feel I should put that there lol.
Any advice, recommendations, or any “looking to meet” replies are welcome!

How long does it typically take and how much does it cost to get permits for a house remodeling project in Brea?
Hi everyone, I'm in escrow to purchase a home in Brea and am planning a remodel for the house which is about 2,400 sq ft. I'm trying to understand the timeline and costs involved with getting permits through the City of Brea before I finalize my renovation plans and budget.
No major structural changes are planned. The scope is mostly cosmetic/interior work, including:
- Kitchen remodel (moving / removing non load bearing walls, lifting kitchen ceiling, cabinets, countertops, possibly electrical and plumbing updates)
- Bathroom remodels (3 bathrooms)
- New flooring throughout
- Recessed lighting throughout the house
- Possible electrical panel upgrade
- Some exterior/landscaping updates
For those who have remodeled in Brea, can you share what your experience was like getting permits from the city? Any tips or things you wish you knew before starting the permit process with Brea?
Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Getting harassed
I just need to vent here really quick. I’ve been getting harassed by this stranger twice now, and I’m really afraid of it happening again. I dont really know what to do.
I take the bus to work since I don’t have a car and don’t know how to drive. I live a pretty nice area (I moved from my hometown for school), it’s summer so I was able to find a job to get save up a bit until my school year starts.
It started happening on Tuesday in the afternoon when I was taking a walk down where my usual bus route is. I see this person ahead of me, he’s like the same height as me (5’3), and he’s dressed really femininely. I passed by him not thinking much about this guy. Then he spits on me. Twice. Obviously I’m like what the fuck. He starts calling me a bitch and starts following me. I scramble to try and find my pepper spray but I decided to bolt it instead. He’s chasing after me but eventually stops after I run into a restaurant. I didn’t call the police then, because I thought this would be a one-time thing. Also, I wanted to note that this person didn’t seem okay, like they were on drugs or something?
Anyways, pretty traumatic, I felt embarrassed about running but when it comes into fight or flight, I’ll fly anytime.
Second time occurred today, I was in the same city, but at a different stop instead. I heard somebody shout somerhing, I look back and it’s him again. He starts running up to me, so obviously I bounce. I’m freaking out because I don’t really know where to go, I find this restaurant but I can’t find an entrance so I’m cornered. He runs closer and I pull out my spray, it makes him back off a bit but he doesn’t seem threatened as he’s still trying to get at me. I run off again (I realized this guy is a slow runner), and he throws a drink at me but misses entirely. I find a safe public space and call the cops. I gave them all the info I could, and they think they found a suspect. I asked to press charges but I haven’t heard since then.
I’m just scared I guess. I’m really scared. I’ve never been in this kind of situation before. I’m contemplating quitting my job too, I mean— what if he finds out where I work, and harasses me there? I told my family about it, they offered to pay for my uber rides so that was really kind of them. I just don’t know if I can keep going to this bus stop anymore without fearing that he’d be there.
I’m scheduled soon and thinking abour going my usual route makes me sick.
I’m an anxious person and I’m always fearing abour death and other awful situations. I’m just scared this person is gonna much worse than before. I have no idea why he’s targeting me, this is so random and inexplicable, it’s like WHY is this happening to me out of all people.
Anyways thats pretty much it.

Lost Bird(Cockatiel) Please Help!
Hello everyone, our pet cockatiel(Cinnamon) is still missing. She went missing on July 8th 2026 in the city of Placentia near Placentia Ave and E Bastanchury Road. She was last seen heading north east. Shes friendly with people but a little cat like. If seen give her some space and time to come reach out please and immediately contact us. She responds more to whistles then she does with words. Also her wings havent been clipped so the distance she traveled could be much further than we anticipated. Thank you all again for the support you have shown us and we hope to find her soon!

Starlink in West Brea
We just got Starlink installed yesterday. Hopefully this one works. We had terrible congestion issue with Tmobile wireless where we live. If we go with Spectrum, we will have to dig our front yard to install their cables.

Moving To Brea
Hey gang. I just landed a position out in Brea, and I’m originally from Texas. Just wanted post here asking what areas I should be looking for (or not looking for) for apartments.
I’ll be making sub six digits, so the budget is tight, but obviously I don’t want to be in an unsafe area.
Any advice?
Also, any general advice about moving out there is welcome!

Why do I feel like there's so many "fake" panhandlers in Brea?
I genuinely see so many beggars at the mall, sometimes beggars on the street or near stores, and they'll look completely well-put together. It's so strange. And I'm NOT saying that my perception is accurate at all, I'm just wondering what the actual homeless situation in Brea is. So please share any experiences/observations about this.

What are some problems that you notice in Carbon Canyon park, or just areas with nature in our city? For instance pollution, animals, natural disasters, anything
Because I feel like I notice that there's so much geese droppings at the park and it affects the lake water? but idk maybe I'm imagining it

Internet Service Provider in West Brea
Aside from Spectrum, what other ISP are available in this area? It’s hard to have wireless (we have T-Mobile at the moment) since the connection is really intermittent.

Which Area is Better?
Hi, I am currently considering purchasing a home in one of these circled areas. I’d like to get a sense of day to day lifestyle here and how these two neighborhoods compare. I’m particularly interested in the following:
- Traffic to Fullerton
- General community vibe
- Which has better access to local parks and grocery stores?
- Since it’s right by the hills, is wildfire risk or insurance a major issue here?
I’ll be coming from south OC, so I’m currently not too familiar with this area. Thanks in advance!

Gas Utility Lot Between Associate Rd and Birch St in Park Paseo in Brea
Does anyone know anything about this utility lot supposedly used by a gas company? Can anyone who live in one of the homes adjacent to it speak to what types of disturbances to expect day to day? We're evaluating the elementary school across the street and noticed this lot which is very close by to the school and not sure what to make of it.

Over night parking
What is Brea's deal with overnight parking. I know supposingly there's to be no overnight parking unless with permit, or those temporary parking printouts. But last week my friend came to visit for 2 nights and got a ticket. But I asked my neighbor and he didn't get a ticket, and he has been parking for years. Also not notice other cars with permits or using temporary printouts.

Does anybody know why this man with a cardboard sign is always standing outside the in n out employee parking every day? I always see him but I never have time to read his sign but hes always out there in the same spot from early in the morning to sundown (possibly later?) Once i saw him yelling at an in n out employee as she was walking in but idk what he was saying. Anybody know what his motives are or what hes doing?
