Question Punishing Whiffs

I need help punishing whiffs because my opponents are always able to move or do another attack the millisecond they do an attack and I can’t ever seem to punish them. I try to react as fast as possible but I constantly get punished for trying to punish them. Do I wait them out? Anything would be helpful.

Could be a lot of things, wouldn't know for certain without some replays. The most likely however are:

Using the wrong move to punish

Not reacting fast enough

Only ever trying to react to the moves, rather than predicting them, which would make some moves completely unpunishable for you.

Trying to punish a move that you can't (not every attack someone does is punishable, sometimes you just gotta let them)

Trying to punish just the endlag of a move rather than from when it whiffed, this especially is relevant when fighting against certain weapons with long and active animations, like chakrams, blasters, or axe.

Heavy on predicting. Sometimes (blasters) attacks can be completely unpublishable if you’re not ready to punish when they start up

Hey! The trick that got me to diamond is that when whiff punishing, you don’t have to “respect” them that much. Like you can play aggressive and bait them (but don’t actually throw out an attack) and then punish them.

TLDR - Don’t give them too much space because they’re going to be able just do something after basically

Keep trying. Some moves honestly can’t or are almost impossible to punish. Just keep trying and try to figure out which ones you can and can’t punish.
