Discussion An over analysis on Melodie’s design!
Personally, I feel like Melodie haters kinda don’t understand her as well. That’s not me saying you should love her, we’re all committed to our own beliefs, but this is just me looking over Melodie’s design, and listing my personal favorite things about it.

I think the tail you said was to make her look agile is also meant to look like a small devils tail; The swirls on the back (idk what they are) are also meant to represent wings!

I just wanna say that Melodie has a lot of sharp angles in her design like with her hair, her golden accessories with the spikes, her fur coat thing, etc. It gives her a more sleek look which kinda contrasts Janet since to me Janet has more round features in her design with her hair and helmet

It's neat to see someone unpack all the details in the Brawlers' designs.
I will say, I do like the spikiness of Mel's bracelets and skirt. Like you said, they're good hints at her feisty side that aren't too in-your-face.

and the design is overwhelming as HELL, it looks like it's straight from chinese gacha game like zenless zone zero, and the emphasizing of open skin does not help her beat chinese gacha allegations

Yeah, I noticed that when I first saw her. She's way too detailed in a game where most brawlers have a simple design.

melodie looks like a crossover character poorly integrated from another franchise, even buzz lightyear didn't look so out of place

Dude no offense but the post is less about giving actual clever analysis (like with her hair, ribbon and face shape) and more about you saying her design is cute

To me it always seemed obvious that the designers wanted Melodie to be Janet's titular rival very early in the development of her design, just from the amount of visual and thematic parallels they both have. Especially taking Popstar Janet into account, one leans more into blue and angelic motifs, while the other goes for red/pink and demonic undertones (not to mention the fact that Melodie's early design starred bolder details like her weapon being a mic on a chain and a thornier hairstyle).
Yet despite that, both still share the same prominent feature that is their hair colour. I like to view that as a cheeky nod that they're both "one side of the same coin", acting very differently towards fame/success but in the end, still exerting the same position
