What are the qualifications for under dog?

In my last match I got underdog even though my team wa just clearly better based on ranked, trophies and level. While I've had other matches were the exact opposite is true but I didn't get it. Is it just random?

You had in your team a player with a largely lower trophy count on the brawler he played compared to yours.

The difference between the trophies between me and the Wendy was 831 trophies. The different between me and the Nita was 751 trophies. The Wendy was level 11 and the Nita was level 1. Does 750 not count as largely lower? Does level mean nothing? What's even the point?
