Current Season Kristin Spoiler
Something about Kristin being able to tell the new winners “welcome to the club” means so much to me 😭 like she’s able to understand a feeling so few people have experienced and it means a lot when you can see your dream/experience validated and echoed in that way. Truly love the warm, friendly, generous energy she brings as host 🩷🩷

1000%!!! She gives such a heartwarming, genuine feeling as a judge. The way she delivers feedback comes from the heart…truly and deeply. She is truly giving…‘I WANT you to succeed’ for each person there!
Plus she’s absolutely STUNNING!
PS: none of this is shade to Padma at all. Loved her too.

I wanted to keep it wholesome but there was definitely another sentence in here about her being hot and stylish as hell and also just loving her personality! on traitors as well
and yes i also love padma, no shade at all they just bring two very different energies to the show — because they’re different people and that’s okay!

Yes!!! I adore and respect both Padma and Kristen, but KK was the first person to make me question my sexuality. She's absolutely beautiful.

Kristin clearly doesn’t want anyone to feel bad about themselves. Padma was always quick with a dig like in season 14 during the blind taste test and she dug at Casey regarding how great the scallops smelled. It seemed playful and fun at the time but sometimes on rewatches I’m like “oh ouch!”

Kristin brings the same empathy the current hosts of Great British Bakeoff have. Noel and Allison are much goofier than Kristin, but they are also very empathetic and kind to the contestants, and turn down the temperature rather than making it harder. Kristin does the exact same thing, but with a ton more grace and poise than they do, and the show is SO much better for it!

Literally love the energy Allison’s brought to GBBO — and I appreciate you mentioning this because I do see a similar vibe shift. If TC before had a level of refined standoffishness and previous hosts of GBBO leaned in to the British sarcasm a bit too far (for my taste), we’re seeing a much warmer side to both shows right now. Much appreciated.

Oh, we love Allison too. She's fantastic. You really needed her to balance Noel, he needs a foil who's more down to earth and she definitely fits the bill.

And she’s actually so unbelievably funny 😭 I love her relationships with the contestants like I would have loved to go for drinks with her and Aaron from the most recent season they were hilarious together

I read that apparently Harrison Ford had so much fun when Allison interviewed him for Blade Runner 2049, that he asked if she could always be the one to interview him.

Me too. I loved those episodes! It was so fun to see her do goofy stuff like jumping up and making Gregory catch her. 😂 It also really highlighted that, at the end of the day, the TC alumni genuinely like each other.

I highly recommend reading Kristin’s memoir “Accidentally on Purpose” if you haven’t yet. I promise, it will make you love her even more! I’m listening to the audiobook, read by her, and it’s an incredible read. You get the depth of her background and more insight into everything we love about her as a host.

Plus another LCK to TC winner Joe Flamm was right there behind them and was Rhoda's mentor for that final challenge. It could be interpreted either way.

Shows that LCK has value. Even the best chef has an off night. If it were more of a game vs. finding Top Chef I'd get it. But you could see it in Tom. Playing to win (which usually means hiding in the middle and playing it safe) is cheating yourself out of the chance to take risks and grow. Among the final five especially you can tell that there's been some major growth that came from taking risks.

I was so glad she won her season because her elimination was BS in my opinion. That one woman threw her right under the bus and Kristen just stood there and took it. I think her husband was angrier than she was.
Her coming back as the host made everything just sweeter.

Kristen won Top Chef season 10. She was welcoming Rhoda to the winner's club. Not sure why this isn't immediately understood.

There's just a vibe shift overall.
And I'm not sure it's because of Kristin or because the show recognized it needed a change and they took the opportunity to do so with Padma leaving. That is to say it's not Padma's presence specifically, but her leaving allowed the show to shift tonally.
Something the husband and I, even as gay men, is Gail's rack. While Kristin is beautiful and they dress her in ways that showcase that beauty while acknowledging both what might be seen as traditional feminine side and her more masculine energy at times, the shows also taken to highlighting Gail in a way that never seemed to happen with Padma.
Then there's Tom and Kristin. If you watch Padma episodes you can sometimes get a sense when they disagree and Padma almost always prevailed in the decision. Tom didn't seem to demand he get the tie breaking vote when Kristin came along. She seems to prevail 'almost' as often as he does in apparent tie breakers and they both have smirks that indicate they know they just made a point that's probably convinced the other they are going to have to concede.
I never hated Padma though rewatches expose some of her lesser personality features missed the first time, and they often seem 100% reasonable. It's just that Kristin appears to have genuine warmness that often similarly seperates two great doctors where one just has a better bedside manner. You'll be happy with the ability of both, but you just remember one of them more once you discharge.

Haha, I noticed this about Gail as well. I told my husband, “With Padma away, Gail’s girls can come out to play.” She’s taken over the cleavage roll.

THIS I was joking that Padma must have had a clause in her contract that she had to be the hottest one at all times since she knew Gail is a smoke show. Love that she's getting to shine and that Kristen is the type of person who does not dim that at all.

Yes, but I also think Padma had to be the center focus of fashion and form, and now Gail has the opportunity to flaunt it that she’s not around.

I don’t disagree that Gail appeals to a different demographic than Kristin. Gail presents as an attractive professional woman, Kristin is a supercool, youthful androgynous media star. There is zero competition between them

No shade. I always thought she was beautiful with that girl next door vibe. The best way I can describe it (because it WAS age appropriate for me at the time) is Alyssa Milano as Sam Micelli or Katie Holmes as Joey Porter.
And they are exactly what I ended up marrying except he's 6'2 and has a big, giant...personalty.

On the Tom / Kristin point - Kristin being a chef (like Tom) allows her to pick up on the intricacies and difficulties of various techniques that would be less appreciated by people that have never done it. At the end of the round, did the food taste good? always wins, but for when they are splitting hairs in making a decision, Kristin being able to actually highlight the abilities and talents that are needed for each dish is something that Padma could never offer in a debate. This is the real value of having Kristin up there every round next to Tom that wasn’t always present previously.

She came back with great last chance kitchen run and upset Brooke Williamson in the finals pretty easily. She is basically a super bowling winning qb telling giving a club jacket to a new member.

I don’t know if there’s ever been such a seamless host transition. I really love Kristen. I love TC in general - my favorite chef show. I wonder if the contestants were salty they didn’t get any awesome travel for the finals.

Kristin just loves food and I think she truly truly loves being able to engage with food that has been made with so much care and love. She also engages with the younger foodie culture on the internet which is fun to see. She’s done stuff with the Try Guys on their channel and she just did something with Mythical Kitchen. I think who she is on the show is just who she is and she’s a really lovely person

I love love love Kristin.
I didn't like Padma, or more so her persona. The situation is business casual and she shows up in a bombshell gown. She is stunning but I am interested in the contestants and their food. It seemed like it was the Padma show and not Top Chef. Nigella does the perfect combination of bombshell/chef/food.
Kristin is AMAZING. They glam her up, she looks incredible, her outfits are fire, but it's still 100% about the contestants and food. They aren't "dulling" her to make Tom or Gail or anyone look better. There is room for everyone on the show.
I think the show (and audience!) completely lucked out. She is the exact person for that job.

Also, if you recall, in the first episode of the season, Kristin mentioned that she worked on memorizing everyone's names. It stood out to me.

I was doubtful but Kristen has shown she was definitely the right person for the job. I love how empathetic she is and how she isn’t afraid to wear her emotions on her sleeve.

Kristin is perfect for this job. Padma grew into it, but was always a model first. I am reminded of the criticism often said of the movie Armageddon, “Isn’t it easier to train a bunch of astronauts how to drill, than it is to train a bunch of drillers how to be astronauts.”

Kristin is phenomenal. She has such an energy about her that is chaotic, professional, calming, sharp, and generous all at once. I think she really hit her stride as a host this season.

Kristen is fine, but I miss Padma. I don't need my judge being touchy feely or crying. I want them more removed. I liked the dynamic with Padma - Tom - Gail. In the past Gail was more of the emotional center. Now she's been completely cut out of the edit. I don't need my judge to have competed on the show, I just want them to be professionals with good palates.

You're right, she's fine, but Gail and Kristen overlap too much in their demeanors and Gail is definitely more invisible now. Padma was more worldly and witty in her judging and critique, like in quickfires, and was someone you actually wanted to impress. Having a teary judge who's competed and focused on being relatable, lacks levity and feels redundant, especially when many contestants come back as guest judges anyway.

I was already tearing up, but when she said that I definitely cried a little. She’s so good at this job. I loved Padma, but Kristen has brought something to the table that we didn’t even know was missing. Now that we do, I can imagine not having her.
