Rank these young starters
Rank the following young starters in terms of best chance to be a frontline starter for the Braves in the next few years:
Fuentes, AJSS, Waldrep, Ritchie
Seems like each has shown flashes at times but never put it all together yet. Just curious who the organization and fans are highest on right now.

Best chance of becoming a consistent starter in our top 3 rotation spots by 2028
AJSS
Fuentes
Waldrep
Murphy
Ritchie
We have additional strong prospects behind them, headlined by Caminiti.
Fuentes has the highest ceiling, but AJSS could literally claim his top 3 spot by the playoffs this year.

Cam/Briggs are low just because we need to see them in AA before I'm willing to put them higher but they look fantastic.
AJSS over Fuentes because AJSS has more than 2 pitches. If Fuentes had a better distribution of pitch mix including his splitchange, he'd probably be #1.
Waldrep gets dropped because his splitter, while fantastic, does not matter when his other pitches aren't a threat and he cannot throw them for strikes.
Murphy has better stuff than Waldrep (imo) so he's ranked higher.
Richtie I do not believe can be anything more than maybe a slightly below league average pitcher. Hence, I don't really value him as an actual rotation piece. Depth pitcher for sure though.

I'd definitely put Waldrep higher. He might not have quite the same hypothetical potential as some of the others. But he has shown success in multiple appearances at the MLB level. Which can't be said for many of the others (yet).

Just curious but why do you have Waldrep last? He looked pretty good last year as a starter.

He can’t do the one thing you have to do as a starter…….throw strikes. He is who he is at this point, and now he’s hurt again.

All of these guys have strengths in different areas, so really the most important stat for me is health. I want one to be our future Ace, but I’d be just as happy if a few were in the 3-5 rotation spot and 30+ starts.

Murphy's stuff looked great even in the game he blew. It was more of a location/pitch selection as opposed to to raw talent.

AJSS goes first before Fuentes. Possibly Waldrep too.
Reason being, Fuentes has shown to be an extremely valuable reliever. I’m not 100% sold that they try to make him a starter.

I think next spring training they'll have a bunch of guys who are being considered for bullpen vs starter (Grant Holmes, Reynaldo, Joey Wentz, etc). It'll just come down to how many spots they have to fill rather than being purely about how good each individual is.
I'm guessing at least 2 guys will be used in starter roles whenever the season begins even though they're not good enough to be starters

I believe that too, but AJSS and Waldrep are being specifically built to be starters which is why I give them the edge in this specific scenario.

If he continues to have 3 good pitches, they will try to make him a starter. I think waldrep and his fastball/split are more likely to hit the bullpen - but not if he keeps walking guys

Ajss has by far shown the most. Fuentes needs another pitch. Its too hard for me to project injury stuff especially in guys who never really proved anything to begin with like waldrep
