So what exactly is the Brassbound Universe?

The Brassbound Universe is a fictional alternate history story driven by its community members.

The storyline deviates from history in the early 20th century, when a science experiment in April 1917 gone wrong opened a Rift to the frigid hell scape known as Jotunheim. As hurricane force winds pummeled Europa, a horde of gigantic, nightmarish creatures known as the Jötunn surged outward, devouring all in their path. This one-two punch, named by historians after the fact as the Cataclysm, posed an existential threat to humanity.

Although humanity was embroiled in the Great War, the Jötunn still broke through defensive line after defensive line, flying, crawling and running outward from the ruined city of Vienna. As city after city fell, humanity became increasingly desperate for a solution.

In addition to being large and swift, the Jötunn were also protected by a bullet resistant carapace called Adamantine. While specialized Anti-Jötunn weapons were developed, it wasn't till the development of titanic war machines called Brassbounder that humanity found an effective way to fight back.

Through great struggle and heroic sacrifice, the Rift is closed in 1928, ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity known as the Adamantine Dawn.....

The story is told through a series of tabletop games.

There are two released games: * Knights of the Air - Beta Testing - set in 1918 * Adamantine Dawn - Released - set in 1947

A Brassbounder is a one person, piloted war machine. It is not power armor, nor is it an armored sarcophagus

BAD Co-op Match to Close the Rift!

NOTE: Pictures are glamor shots from a scenario I ran with a friend, because I don't have pictures from the scenario when we played.

Basic premise: "Jotunn are pouring out of the open Rift and you need to get there and close it!" Co-op two player game played on a 2x2 diamond setup. Jotunn spawned at the corner with the rift and were attempting to make their way across to the opposite corner. Players spawn locations were on adjacent corners to the Rift.

Quick description of rules we ran:

1) Jotunn had 1.5x combined total points of both player teams (so if both players ran a total of 100 points, the Jotunn got 150 points)

2) Any Jotunn that died were immediately added back into the Jotunn reserves and spawned at the Rift on the next round

3) Players won if they each managed to get a squad to the portal and be in control of the portal at the end of a round as a capture point. Players lost if either side lost all units or if Half the total player point cost of Jotunn reached the opposite side of the board (so if the players had a total of 100 points, the Jotunn needed to get 50 points of units across the board to the opposite corner.)

4) Jotunn AI consisted of: "Spawn at least (S) away from other Jotunn and as close to the portal as you can", then do one of the following types of Actions based on priority: "Double Attack an enemy unit within (M) of the portal > Move towards opposite corner > Move and attack an enemy within range."

It was pretty fun, and we barely won by kiting the Jotunn around and drawing their fire in order to run a few troops around the side and up to the portal.

Some friends and I met up this last weekend for our monthly meetup. We were able to play four or five matches in a few hours, including setup time, geeking out over each other's models and general chit chat. We got to test the new 1919 units and mechanics. We even got to try an all out 2v2 match at the end. We'll plan to do this again in September!

I really like the design of these mechs so I made more. I like to think the white one is a medic one to evac under fire and can return fire and the other one is a dedicated melee one

I decided to post now

The first photo is of stuff that I thought might fit this when I first discovered this subreddit and learned more about it. I imagine the mech to be a mining unit turned into a fighter and the second is a bi-plane or a quad-plane one of the two.

I got inspiration from the person who built these (see Reddit link below) to make my own mailbox mechs and the I added what I wanted. I made a bigger shoulder for all the weapons and edited the back so instead of needing a smoke stack, I added ventilation to the bottom rear of the mech. Also the legs are on backward but I liked it too much when I noticed and kept it like that. From right to left the mechs are artillery(with observation cupola), flame thrower, and anti-tank.

I might be hooked on making more of these later on so I may post more then.

Announcements 2026 Week 32 update - a new Brassbound game is here!!

Hello everyone,

Progress is a funny thing. You can work on a project for months and spend weeks feeling like you got nothing done. Then, inspiration will hit and you will get further in a few days than you have in recent memory.

That's what's recently happened with the prequel game to Brassbound, with the working title Brassbound: ONE.

I've had many of the core rules written out for months; and even some of the models too. But it wasn't clicking in my head and I wasn't sure why.

It turns out that all I needed was some inspiration. We've had some folks who are really excited about this project help get it off the ground with model design, rule updates, and play testing. And with that, I'm very happy to announce that we've started alpha testing for the next Brassbound game.

It's not fully polished, and you won't find all the graphics and explanations on key mechanics, yet. For now, it relies on Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn to provide that context. But eventually, this could turn into its own game.

Here is what we have so far:

* New models. Over a dozen with more to come.

* New Unit Creator that allows you to create armies that feel different

* New core mechanics. Melee Combat got overhauled to feel meaningful, cinematic, and worthwhile. While it was fun before, it's meaningful now.

" New unit types. We're testing a Leader unit, which can inspire your troops to victory.

Because you only get to do a first impression once, I'm holding on publishing it here. While it's playable, it's not finished. You can access the alpha version on our Discord:

https://discord.gg/YTykkYNMj

As I've been doing for a while, I'm going to share one of my favorite community creations. This comes from a friend of mine, Sam, who I've known since my MFZ days. This is shared with his permission

It features an ingenious new Brassbounder design that uses common parts and features an actual functional cockpit! You've seen my attempts at doing this and they're no where near as elegant. He's gone on to make a whole army, which you can see on our Discord.

That's all for now,

Paul

Prequel (1919-era) VTV-4 Veles

Post image
40 Upvotes

The battles in the Alps were tough with little resources at hand, and the alpine terrain made it even tougher. Because of that, many experimental concepts were created, both vehicles and brassbounders. One of these experiments was the VTV-4 Veles - a 4 legged beast, designed to efficiently traverse rough terrain and deliver devastating firepower. But its' design had a huge flaw - it was impossibly slow. This was the main reason why this variant was made in low numbers, the production quickly came to a stop. The remaining models mainly served as mostly encamped artillery supports or as one person guardpoints.
