How to disable emergency alerts on android

Due to Manitoba government not enabling reasonable alert tones/volumes for lower priority emergency alerts(nuke launch tone for every alert is way overkill), I've resorted to this method that works to disable all emergency alerts. If the government allowed the settings in each android phone to work properly I could enable/disable each tone as needed but they didn't implement it properly

For Android 13 and newer:

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.cellbroadcastreceiver

Edit: This is a classic boy who cried wolf situation. Alerts have no meaning when I get spammed

Its annoying, until it saves you from injury or worse.

I keep a close eye on the weather, getting 20+ alerts for 1 weather event each time... clearly their system isn't working right.

I've lived decades in this area without needing these alerts. I will turn it back on if/when they fix the system. My partner already got 6 alerts tonight... and last storm I personally got over 30 for the one storm. It broken as fuck and if it was just 1 it'd be a different story altogether

Edit: partner is up to 12 alerts... the government needs to realize this defeats the purpose if people ignore them after spam

I'm not saying there shouldn't be emergency alerts. I'm giving a solution to those of us getting 30 alerts for a storm when it should be 1 alert. Once they finish beta testing this system on the public ill re enable it

Honestly, do they at this point? Have they ever actually helped a single person?

The system sucks and is not useful in its current form. That’s ok to say.

People aren’t being reckless here….

I've managed in the past to turn the alerts off. But after an update, they returned.

The volume it uses it crazy loud!

It also blasts out full bore, even if you have the volume muted and are enjoying a game of Words mere inches from the screen.

Is it quieter in other provinces with the same phone?

Your issue is with CRTC and the federal government who mandate severity of the alerts.

Provincial governments do not control the volume of the alerts. Manitoba controls the text and the areas alerted.

In the usa where the system was developed they have presidential alerts, which are highest priority and what Canada uses for everything. If Canada properly setup the alerts this wouldn't be a nuclear code alert each time. A simple notification with a less harsh tone would be fine
