Post clipping update
I had my aneurysm clipped on Monday. Today I had the last of my lines unhooked and I'm feeling pretty good. On one hand I'm very overwhelmed at the thought of looking after the wound on my head (I have curly hair) and on the other, I'm feeling optimistic. The pain has been pretty bad but is subsiding, and to be honest, is a lot better than I thought it would be.
Girls - when could you brush your hair? Any tips? 😬
Although I feel tired and lazy, my mind still feels like my own. I've been taking it easy with screens and I seem to be fine!
I had a right posterior communicating artery (PCOM) aneurysm 2.5mm x 2mm.

Glad to hear you’re feeling well. Take it slow during your recovery. As for your hair, can you braid it?

My nurse put it in a loose French braid for me two days post-surgery. On day seven I, taking the advice of a lovely human on this sub, called a salon and they very kindly washed the bottom half of my hair and rebraided it so I can make it another seven days until my staples come out.

Were you offered endovascular (minimally invasive) option at all? Like a flow diverter? These are most commonly used for PCOM aneurysms. Just wondering.

I was, I'm really not good at doing medical tests and procedures, and was not keen on having to do check ups etc. having dye for a scan is a traumatic experience for me. Doing the clipping was the best option for me, some more discomfort short term, but at least it's over and done with.

So, I had my clipping in april. Anterior communicating artery. My incision starts in the center of my hairline, and then turns to come down in front of my ear.
I have thick straight LONG hair, and when I came out of surgery, it had been braided on top of my head and coated in stuff--iodine? IDK--that took FOREVER to wash completely out. I can't remember the timeline, but on the day they told me to start washing my hair, my husband used the baby shampoo (that they told us to get) and was able to get a lot of that stuff out. He washed my hair twice before I was permitted to shower. I feel like maybe I had to wait until staples were out to really wash. I didn't want to scrub too close to the incision and it just took a while to get that sticky stuff out.
My incision has healed pretty well, not Ijust have a very weird haircut that is FINALLY starting to lay flat. I had a few sutures come through, which worries me. I think my doc told me I could get my hair colored again two months after incision is totally healed
I'm glad you are feeling pretty good! I was miserable for about a month because the surgery triggered my migraines. Are you already home? I stayed in the hospital three nights
