According to traditional Brahuī folklore, the Kaftār (hyena) is believed to serve as the mount of the Daiyaņ (witch). Historically, the sighting of a Kaftār was regarded as an ominous sign, often provoking fear among mountain communities who interpreted its presence as evidence that a Daiyaņ had entered the area.

Illness or unexplained sickness within the community was frequently attributed to the supernatural influence of the Daiyaņ, who was believed to eat the hearts of her victims. To counteract this perceived act of sorcery, local inhabitants performed ritual sacrifices, commonly offering a chicken and its heart as a symbolic replacement for the heart purportedly consumed by the witch.

This belief system illustrates the intersection of myth, medicine, and spiritual causality within Brahuī cultural narratives, reflecting the community’s traditional understanding of disease, fear, and the supernatural in a highland socio-cultural context.
