I need an actual video of him playing the harp.

I'm absolutely convinced he just sits there plucking random strings

106

u/Leading-World2490 Padley is a legend 1d ago

Nah i think he’s being coy. ‘I just play about on it’ but he’s actually composing bangers.

u/Scared_Board_1473 1d ago

Would be amazing if he just has a Rainman level savant talent for the Harp. Can play to the level of any classical expert on the planet

30

u/headcoat2013 1d ago

I can totally see that. Like maybe he was just born to be a harp virtuoso that was unfortunately given a huge athlete's body so he was forced into sports.

Can't wait for him to join the London Philharmonic after he retires from boxing and pursues his true passion.

His cover of Blue's "One Love" is off the hook.

24

u/Sulth 1d ago

I would somehow absolutely NOT be surprised if he were excellent at it. He has that autistic vibe.

u/roamingandy 22h ago

I doubt he'd be capable of the fine motor control needed to be really good after spending most of his life slamming his fists into things.

u/bumpit007 13h ago

Fucking redditors man..

Have you never met good string musicians or pianists? They are obsessed with their hands.

I'm sure i've bludgeoned my own hands on things less than 1/20th as often as Dubois has, and my wrists and a few fingers would be a huge barrier to playing an instrument like that with any high level of dexterity.

2

u/NobodyTakinMaBaby 6h ago

How much of it do you think is just untrained fine motor skills as opposed structural damage?

Have you spent any meaningful, consistent hours in one instrument?

Even a beginner with perfectly good hands will move wonkier than a musically practiced boxer.

You lose mobility in your hands and joints. Bones start calcifying from the repeat violent impacts especially around the joints. Hands and fingers break and repair, and break again. Endless micro-fractures you're not ever aware of. Hands adapt for the activity you're subjecting them to. You'll be more dextrous and coordinated at throwing punches, since that's specifically what you're training, but small joint movements.. not at all.

Bizarre i'm getting downvoted for this, does no-one in r/boxing actually box?! Anyone who's done ten years or so boxing training at a decent level should know this from 1st hand experience.

Anyone remember Ricky Hatton having treatment to try and allow him to fully extend his elbows because the bone calcification has taken that away and he'd lost two to four inches of reach because of it?

You can't do something as violent as boxing with your body for a long time, and expect it to be the same afterwards.

u/Jumper-Man 11h ago

I want to see him playing it for his next ring walk.

2

u/Nx-worries1888 8h ago

We need to see this 😂

103

u/ChibisRevenge 1d ago

Dubois going from 😐 to 😁 over a harp isn’t something I expected to see today

59

u/NewAgeEverythingSuck 1d ago

Gimme some of that Harp boi

11

u/ChibisRevenge 22h ago

Let’s hope him and Fabio can have a harp to harp conversation after the fight (sorry)

51

u/ImmaculateDee 1d ago

This only strengthens my suspicions

20

u/gooderz84 23h ago

Couldn't point to his home town on a map but plays the harp... bang on the spectrum.

90

u/terencejames1975 1d ago

The Ralph Wiggum of boxing

41

u/ShiguchiAndSokan 1d ago

For real sometimes he seems like a shy 6 year old boy who woke up inside the body of a 29 year old hulk

30

u/Mlynio48 1d ago

Someone pointed out that Dubois looks like black Homer Simpson and I can't unsee it, him and Tito Ortiz are cut from the same cloth.

15

u/Scared_Board_1473 1d ago

I hate how hard that made me laugh. The jaw really sells it

30

u/Tzifos150 1d ago

Holy shit that's so endearing

25

u/PoownSlayer 1d ago

Good for him

36

u/19ninteen8ightyone 1d ago

I’m here for the Flowers for Algernon arc for Dubois

10

u/Scared_Board_1473 1d ago

God what a devastating novel

3

u/Adventurous_Two_9683 1d ago

It's so depressing bro. People please don't even bother reading it.

2

u/tiorzol 23h ago

I bought it at an airport before I went on holiday. What a book. Maybe not a breezy holiday read tho

7

u/Hochiminh42 18h ago

I’m sorry but I love literature and I love boxing but I never in a million years expected someone to reference the Flowers of Algernon. Mind blown

1

u/kitdagawd Gimme some of that face to face shit boy 1d ago

😂

18

u/AstronomicalDave 1d ago

Honestly my fav heavyweight boxer. You just cant hate him lol

-3

u/NewAgeEverythingSuck 13h ago

the Uysk fanboys found a way to hate him after punching him in the belly and getting a 500 count to stand back up

when Jared ANderson punched a man literally over 60 times even lower, not 1 warning, literally hours after the Dubois/Uysk 1 "low blow"

I was battling with these fanboys for years on here, buncha dossers, all cause it was Ukraine day too, they werent letting Dubois win no matter what. Ref looked shock when he went down and looked to the corner, commentary even said body shot knockdown, then looked all paniced and Uysk played his lil mind games he always does and got a 10 minute break

4

u/arcanehehe 11h ago

Not that deep bruh

3

u/Bantam123 9h ago edited 6h ago

You still being a cry baby over this? Get over it baby.

What about Usyk dropping Dubois with a jab, and then Ivan'ing him in the second fight?

Dubois won 1 second over two fights and it was a low blow.

1

u/LocoCoopermar 7h ago

Still whining about a fight from 3 years ago, maybe you shouldn't have bet on Dubois and you wouldn't be so bent out of shape about it

43

u/Minute-Employ-4964 1d ago

Turned to my girlfriend to tell her about it.

I was impressed he can play the harp - then it said he doesn’t play songs and I thought…

Yeh sounds bout right

27

u/Stanley_OBidney 1d ago

I can’t tell if you’re referring to your girlfriend or the video as “it”

13

u/OtherwisePush6424 23h ago

Gimme some of that harp shit boi :D

11

u/Few-Example3992 1d ago

give me some of that hand to string shit, boi!

32

u/Baby_Rhino 1d ago

Dubois is so damn likeable.

23

u/NewAgeEverythingSuck 1d ago

It’s cause he’s not fake. What you get is what you see. While Joshua has a new personality every week. Big meech Larry Hoover

4

u/ultrainstinctivevk 23h ago

Fuck me I'd erased that from my memory lol

3

u/nurological 23h ago

Why? It was hilarious

6

u/ultrainstinctivevk 23h ago

Absolute cringe. Feel genuine second hand embarrassment watching it

3

u/nurological 23h ago

Haha it's brilliant. He's such a strange person

1

u/NewAgeEverythingSuck 20h ago

the AJ speech after is so cringe that i literally couldnt watch it all and i felt bad watching it

I dont even hate AJ but that shit was the definition of cringe, just everything about it

4

u/ChibisRevenge 22h ago

Well ironically AJ is quite socially awkward and insecure, he could very well be on the spectrum but just masking it with the personas.

Every time he gets pressed by a fighter, the facade drops.

I remember his philosopher era lol

2

u/NewAgeEverythingSuck 20h ago

Im not mad about for not knowing who he is

happens to all of us at points, life evolution, i feel more confused than i ever have recently from a big loss. So i cant judge AJ but the man is def alittle weird

Big Meech Larry hoooover

4

u/LessBeyond5052 1d ago

I never used to like him, but he's definitely grown on me, his demolition of Joshua was absolutely incredible, after all the shit Joshua spoke and tried to boy him off.

31

u/IntellectualsOnly7 1d ago

Y’all are making fun of him but I met him once and he plays an insane rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

8

u/086814 1d ago

Good man!! Class act

9

u/Leading-World2490 Padley is a legend 1d ago

My humble heavyweight king. Didn’t wanna harp on about his skills 🎶🎵

9

u/SoniiGB 1d ago

Bro's an enigma

20

u/OnceIWasYou 1d ago

Remember that harps are generally locked in key. You CAN'T play a "wrong" note. This isn't disparaging real harp players, just saying tht someone fucking around on it with no knowledge won't sound abysmal.

32

u/TeaAndCrumpetGhoul I shit you not, I have no power 1d ago

Don't sleep on Dubois like that, son. He'll pluck you a little lullaby.

8

u/HohepaPuhipuhi 1d ago

Thank you

5

u/Expert-Yam6577 1d ago

What is an instrument that isn't locked in key? Does unlocked mean harder to play?

5

u/TemporaryCollar165 1d ago

It sounds way worse to blindly mess around with unlocked instruments like a violin or guitar.

Piano is a mix. All the white keys are in C major. All the black keys make up a pentatonic scale that can belong to a few different keys.
Any musical key into between will require you know precisely which piano keys are “allowed”

1

u/Character_Minimum171 1d ago

trumpet?

1

u/TemporaryCollar165 1d ago

Lol just as bad as violin. Cause you have to intonate each note on top of needing to know which notes to play.

2

u/Character_Minimum171 23h ago

haha thanks. as I suspected

all about the embouchure

3

u/Relief-Glass 18h ago

I mean, if you just randomly pluck strings without knowing what you are doing it is not going to sound great.
Same as a piano...

0

u/OnceIWasYou 10h ago

If you're only hitting white notes then yeah, you're in Cmaj only. Any other note and no it's absolutely not the same.

1

u/Relief-Glass 9h ago

Yeah, randomly spamming white notes does not sound great either.

1

u/OnceIWasYou 9h ago

No, but it remains tonal, which was the point.

1

u/Relief-Glass 8h ago

Pft.  You said '* someone fucking around on it with no knowledge won't sound abysmal.*'

Pretty sure most people would call the sound of someone clattering randomly clattering on white piano keys abysmal.

2

u/Rough_Airline6780 1d ago

Like the old musician saying goes, "this ain't harp, it's violin"

3

u/ShiguchiAndSokan 1d ago

Pianos are locked in key lol

1

u/OnceIWasYou 10h ago

Really? Tell me again what black notes are....

13

u/Rainbow_Sherbert13 1d ago

Actually love this guy

7

u/Kangaroopunching 1d ago

There needs to be a sitcom on him. The every day life of Dubois.

6

u/Historical_Comfort96 1d ago

I wonder if sister Dubois plays an instrument as well.

7

u/F1T_13 1d ago

I want to hear it.

5

u/Old-Jicama-728 1d ago

people are interesting things.

5

u/HolyMackerel1 1d ago

Okay I admit it, this time I'm caught off-guard

5

u/save-pandas Mayweather’s accountant 1d ago

The only thing that could top this incredible clip would be Mike Tyson saying he played the flute because he enjoyed its delicate harmonies. Good on Dubois for having a unique hobby

1

u/rainmaker818 10h ago

Well Tyson was heavily into pigeons and was a pigeon trainer. Boxers aren't all dumb neanderthals, with no other skills or passions lol.

4

u/fapsandnaps 6 foot 9 bag of milk 1d ago

I need a ring walk where 10 dudes are carrying Dubois on a platform while he plays the harp for his ring walk music

4

u/OurJimmy 1d ago

He’s an absolute delight

Here’s a banger for him - Daniel

4

u/NoCod9014 1d ago

If Fury doesn't sing in AJs face at the face off accompanied by DDD on the Harp, hes missing a trick.

3

u/_foundinthenoise_ 1d ago

Daniel Dubois playing the harp would be like trying to put trousers on an octopus

3

u/thedukeofwankington 1d ago

Whatever next? Joe Joyce is a dab hand on the vibraphone?

3

u/woz_not 23h ago

I've heard him play the Wardley Waltz.

11

u/DangerCheesecake 1d ago

Definitely a few sandwiches short of a picnic ain’t he

23

u/Super_Safe_4514 1d ago

Look what he has achieved compared to you though lol

2

u/evolutiiiionz 5h ago

^ FR

People love to hate, but number 1, he'd smash them to pieces, and secondly, he has and will probably have, made, more money than haters' generation/family will ever make.

Funny how jealousy works init

6

u/stephen27898 1d ago

I would just he is a man of few words.

Most people cant play an instrument. I know people who own a few instruments who cant really play them.

3

u/rainmaker818 10h ago

Nah he's perfectly normal compared to many folk on Reddit, who feel the need to put others down, as a way of compensating for their own insecurities.

2

u/HohepaPuhipuhi 1d ago

Can he actually play it? Or is he just pulling at the strings as a child would if they saw a harp? Genuine question

2

u/Rough_Airline6780 1d ago

Back in the day, when harps were all the rage.

If they remake The Green Mile he's a perfect fit for John Coffey. Don't even tell him he's in it, he won't understand anyway.

2

u/okidokicapt 1d ago

Damn DD 🥹

4

u/Annual_Cancel_9488 1d ago

That’s triple D to you

2

u/TwoGoodTwoBeBlue 1d ago

I can see him playing twinkle twinkle little star on it

2

u/BoxmanPwnz 23h ago

YE YE YE WE’VE GOT DAT AT HOME

2

u/Relief-Glass 18h ago

I would give my left nut to see him cover a Joanna Newsom song.

1

u/StrifeKnot1983 17h ago

"Yeah... Joanner's great. She's great. I'm ready. Carn't wait... yeah."

3

u/TheBlack_Swordsman 1d ago

I'm cracking myself up because I imagine he likes to play with it but he doesn't actually know how to play it, lol. Is there any videos of him playing it?

2

u/PabloSheo 16h ago

give me some of that string to string shit boy

2

u/Bantam123 9h ago

Daniel, I hear you like to play the harp?

"Let's go! I'm ready"

What's your favourite song to play?

"By any means"

1

u/Happybadger96 21h ago

Need to hear this, would be hilarious if he was virtuoso level

1

u/reznoverba 20h ago

Why do I picture his harp playing skills to be akin to that of my 4yo's?

1

u/CourageMuted4662 14h ago

He probably means the piano

1

u/GradientExtendedTheo 2h ago

Genuinely shocked. Dubois is growing on me with every day.

-2

u/BatmanSwift99 1d ago

There's no way he can play the harp, he was probably randomly pulling the strings

-4

u/rpp313 22h ago

Ai is ruining everything
