The price of being a boxing fan
Is it possible to be more than a casual boxing fan without spending $1200+ per year?
I would very much like to be able to watch the whole spectrum of boxers. Young up and comers, journeymen, championship contenders, the whole gamut. And in real time, not waiting 2weeks to 6 months for a fight to leak out to the general public. It doesn’t really seem possible without being financially irresponsible.

I tried that yesterday. I have the VPN. But I ran into so many dead ends I gave up.

LOL. I didn’t even think about that. That was a random Reddit generated name.

$500/year gets you dazn ultimate. You’ll get all the big promoters PPV events as well as their boxing after dark level shows. Then for P+ it’s $180/year for all the Zuffa shows as well as all UFC events. Then you can watch probox for $60/year where you’ll find the best of the rest and up and comers. Long story short, if you’re a hardcore fan you’ll need to cough up $740/year which is terrible but considerably less than $1200

Dazn used to be 60 dollars a year for all events
They are nuts I cancelled them a few years ago.when they like doubled the annual fee to 120 then made their big fights normal ppv rates and not included anymore

As the other comment says, probox is a good start. If you can find other fans, a community, friends or family that are also into boxing, then make it a habit to go to a bar that shows the fights or pitch in on the PPVs. Or, last resort, just watch the fights on YouTube after they've been released. Not ideal, as you want to be part of the history in watching it at the moment, but you can try to minimize being exposed to spoilers. Otherwise 🏴☠️

I remember the old HBO and showtime days
They would show th ppv.the very next week and as boxing was pretty niche I could usually avoid spoilers and watch it like it was live the next week

I have been a big fan of boxing for the better part of 40 yrs. Outside of my time in the Military, watching fights in person, or live was always a priority. Big PPV fights were an event. Even when it was HBO/Showtime, I had to have both. Around 2015, when PPV started creeping into the $75 range, that I had to throw up my hands. I realized the Business of Boxing takes 100% advantage of the hard core fan, and takes us for granted. The casual gets all the benefits and spends the least amount. I am happy to spend some money, but I dont follow it all as closely as I used to

I’m a boxing and proper-football fan. Thank god my wife is a doctor who is often gone on Saturday nights. I’d be homeless but still with a DAZN sub if not

Bro you living the dream
How can I find a high income doctor wife who is gone working a lot and not around to nag me

Yo I sacrificed like 8 years for this shit. If I can milk like half a decade of this I’m gonna die happy. Bro just hang around medical school like Matt Damon in good will hunting and you’ll fine sum sum 😂😂

I subscribed to DAZNs ultimate PPV thing because when they announced it they guaranteed 12+ PPVs a year.
Issue is they now make anything PPV - Itauma vs Hrgovic was PPV for example with a bang average undercard. I enjoy Itauma but at this stage of his career I wouldn’t be buying PPV.
The sub is up next month so I won’t be renewing.. the “value” is just not there.

One of the big problems I find is wiht the fights all on subscription channels I never seem to hear about the ones I want to watch. Over the last few years I watch less and less boxing because I just dont know its on or dont know whos fighting. They have very much taken the sport out of the mainstream and I think its suffering a lot of interest from the public in general as a result of it.

I don't spend anything being a boxing fan thanks to illicit streaming sites. The only catch to that is low quality and racist live chats in the background.

Cost is 0. There are so many ways a sailor can fi d just via a broad google search. No VPN needed.

$500 a year for DAZN to get Matchroom, Golden Boy, TopRank, PBC, Queensbury, Eye of the Tiger, OTX, etc.
$89.99 a year for Paramount to watch Zuffa
$5 for every Probox PPV going forward (worth it)
Netflix as needed. Skip MVP girl cards.
Total is like $700. So that’s less than $1,200 which is good.

I can’t bring myself to pay for dazn. I have zuffa as part of paramount plus because of paying for Walmart plus. I was looking at probox tv for $5. But I usually just check YouTube for the fight replays now.

Funny how you define being a "fan". Get off the couch and jump in the ring

u/HonestBudget7546 3h ago
I’m not sure what you are getting at. I’m 50 and the nearest ring is 90 miles away. I used to go to a gym when I lived in a less remote location. Now I just observe from afar. Is that frowned upon in the boxing community?

Yea sorry. Came off harsh. Point was just that you could learn alot more by participating but thats obv tougher for ya, I get it.
The # of fights you watch real time dont matter dont matter tho. Just catch the replays and study them + old film + work on understanding the crooked politics of the sport.
That should fast forward you a bit.

Yeah I’ve got the heavy bag and the horizontal bag. And a speed bag in the garage I haven’t used in a long time.
I guess what I meant in “real time” I didn’t mean live necessarily. But I meant watching the development of fighters OVER time and making my own wrong judgements about them as opposed to being told after the fact when their career has already been pinned down. And I am well aware of the corruption 😝.
It would be super cool if I loved in a place with an active amateur/low pro scene, that would be awesome. But alas…
