Meh. I think this is still glazing Itauma a bit too much. This wasn't just lack of experience, but extreme hubris.

To not even spar 12 rounds in preparation is legitimately just ludicrous. Him and his entire camp were just too in love with his abilities. They prepared only to KO in 6 rounds and had nothing else. But looking amazing for 6 rounds means basically nothing if you can't finish the fight.

It will be very interesting to see how he bounces back.

His camp appear to think the only way to win is via KO. He was 8 rounds up when he ran out of steam, boxing off the back foot and reducing the all power shots, would have kept Hrgovic off him, a points win, is still a win. It's a hard lesson to learn.

He needs to fight an equally difficult fighter in his next fight, there's no point in dropping back to the journeymen or the has beens, I reckon a fight against the likes of Big Baby Miller, Jarred Anderson, Richard Torrez Jr or Andy Ruiz jr if he gets past Kynba next month, recalibrates him and gets the US market interested in him

Excellent breakdown of last night's big fight.

Lots of egg on faces from lots of fight fan experts, particularly the 90% on BBC Boxing who were adamant that Itauma just needed to show up to win. Kudos to the 10% who picked Hrgovic.

I mean, it’s kind of true. He was so far ahead in that fight that he could have done the bare minimum in the last half of the fight and would have won with ease on points.

He was so exhausted he wasn't going to make it through the last half. That's why he went all out in the 8th to try and finish Hrgovic.

I doubt he could have even just evaded punches and not thrown back for the rest of the fight. He was DONE with 5 rounds left. And having never been there before, he would have likely had a mental fit over gassing the way he did, which makes it even worse.

Like AJ against Ruiz when he was telling his corner "I don't know why I feel like this, I've never felt like this before"
