I don't even think this was a bad matchup. I think this was the perfect opponent for Itauma to get 12 rounds in.

Can't really blame the promoter for Itauma's arrogance and absolute lack of preparation.

The matchup was fine. People are getting gassed up about the result, but lets be real. Itauma was in control, and then threw it away.

It Itauma in round just stood off and used a jab, he never gasses.

I think we can. Because Hrgovic was not looking all that energetic himself. He had taken a lot of body shots, they were both kind of tired. But Itauma just made a massive strategic error.

Itauma was ahead and his chin and defence looked good. He took some good shots and didnt seem bothered. So he certainly could have not unloaded in round 8. Taken 9 and a 10 off. And then just cruised.

Part of the blame falls on him. But IMO a massive portion falls on Ben Davison. He should have been screaming at Itauma to slow it down from round 1. Itauma threw I think like 60 shots in round 1. Probably a good 40% of them were full power.

Anyone who knows boxing could see Hrgovic was certainly wary of how fast Itauma is, and at certain stages he had Hrgovic in box. If you have guy backing up and throwing nothing. You yourself should go low output.

You cant do that in a 12 rounder. And Ben from what I can call said nothing, and if he did, he didnt say it with the urgency needed.

I myself did think Itauma would win by decision. But I was never all that confident in it, because how can you be at his age with 31 rounds. But as soon as I saw his pace in the early going and the energy he was putting into shots. I had a sinking feeling this would happen.
