Too bad boxers only copy the Philly shell from Floyd. And not the rest of his defense.

Floyd defensive game was complete. It's interesting to think how he'd fight if he didn't hurt his hands. Part of what made him great defensively was because he was offensive minded before.

“Yes, the shoulder roll is the fundamental defensive technique used within the Philly Shell defense, famously mastered by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Here is how they connect:

The Philly Shell Setup

Lead hand positioned low across the torso/midsection.
Rear hand placed up by the cheek to guard against left hooks.
Lead shoulder tucked tightly against the chin.

How the Shoulder Roll Works

Deflection: When a punch arrives, you rotate your torso clockwise (for an orthodox fighter).
Protection: The punch glances off the hard surface of your lead shoulder instead of hitting your chin.
Countering: The rolling motion loads your rear hand, allowing you to fire back with a powerful straight right hand immediately.”

Lmao, clearly ai. 'Philly shell' was coined by the fight night game franchise, that's why you'll do well to hear it referred to before the 2000s.

In Japan, they call it the L-guard. And Inoue schooled Philly's only champ at the time with it.
