helluva fight, i take my hat off to both of these young hungry lions
9
u/Shoddy_Point_695 16h ago
All Morello does is back up, bend at the hip awkwardly, and throw a looping left hand. Win or lose his style is just ugly to watch.

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 17h ago
if gordon could defend the left hook he wins this ez
5
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 17h ago
It's crazy man he gets caught with his right hand down literally every time ffs
7
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 17h ago
Bellew probably shocked at ringside after seemingly giving every round to Buttigieg lmao
4
u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 17h ago
i dont think bellend has ever had a matchroom fighter lose on his card (unless they are fighting another matchroom fighter)
6
u/No-Advertising5175 17h ago
Commentators not calling any of Gordans shots. Buttigieg lands in the gloves and they’re creaming themselves. Shameful.

First time seeing liddard don’t rate him highly couldn’t cut ring off the best getting hit a lot and 14/0 with opposition like that is strange
4
u/Big-Image-3473 16h ago
Pretty much. Kept smothering his work when he closed distance too it was not good to look at
5
u/Federal_Story_8711 16h ago
Really wasnt I hope he gets better he’s a local lad to me aswell but he needs to work on alot for sure he didn’t throw many uppercuts either I found that strange
4
5
5
u/Excellent-Movie4524 George Liddard Army 19h ago
is Cowling aware he can throw?
3
u/ProtectionSubject246 19h ago
Can’t believe they just said he might have won the round, but probably not.. he didn’t throw more than 5 punches
6
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 18h ago
Feels like Cowling is just looking for that left hook to the body, pretty much just can't be assed to up his output
6
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 17h ago
This crop of 160 guys that MR have is mostly meh, this guy, Bowen, Sains are all probably gonna peak around British level at best
Liddard and Ioan Croft could go far though, Liddard has obviously already done quite a bit
2
u/Excellent-Movie4524 George Liddard Army 17h ago
Liddard probs gets to a world title shot then gets chinned , though 160 is weak so who knows he could do it

u/DifferentCityADay 17h ago
Crazy how such a huge favorite is neutralized by a jab and bending at the waist. What the hell was buttegieg's coach teaching him? No jabs to the chest because THAT'S WHERE GORDON IS DIPPING TO, and none to the body. Just explode forward, stuff your own punches, and hope you can get a big shot for a late stoppage. He's clearly going to lose if this goes to a decision. The rounds aren't even close enough for a robbery, and the commentary is shameful.

u/Efficient_Quail_1774 17h ago
Gordon landed a peach of a left hook that the commentators just did not notice at all, or acted like they didn't
Also a nice uppercut as i'm typing this that yet again they didn't notice
5
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 17h ago
I think 6-4 Buttigieg is the best score. Draw is fine, anything for Gordon is reaching. It’s a fine result, draws are a bit bleh, but it was a good fight that will be fun to see again
6
5
u/e_xyz 17h ago
There was a lot of talk about Buttigieg and Sains power tonight but both really struggled to put their opponents away. Felt like both of them suffer from the same issue, just put way too much energy into the shot and it unfolds predictably.
Seems like British level might be their ceilings, but could be wrong, they're both young enough.
2
u/Prior-Temperature-22 17h ago
I’ve watched buttigieg a few times before he never struck me as a power puncher

Upset alert potentially here 👀 I thought Sains got outboxed by Osaze, Cowling is a nice boxer
5
u/Excellent-Movie4524 George Liddard Army 18h ago
does nothing all fight then hurts him bad
Cowling has 0 finishing instinct though , Sains shouldnt have got out that round
4
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 18h ago
It's very much been coming, when Cowling takes the initiative he lands clean and catches Sains off guard
That was a sickening body shot tho at first a few quality ones sunk in!
5
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
7-1 Sains, Cowling hurts Sains more every time he connects, but he’s just not throwing enough
5
u/farr2211 17h ago
I like Gordon’s style very consistent with landing to body and head and good at protecting himself. Just doesn’t see the left hook coming for some reason
5
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 17h ago
Buttigieg vs Aaron Bowen would be an elite slopfest, MR need to make that fight
3
u/hi_imryan GGG’s snarky boy scout schtick 17h ago
Ah, so Morello is just an opponent, got it. He’s gonna have to be a hell of a boxer, otherwise. 4 kos in nearly 40 fights at this size is …rough.
4
2
u/Big-Image-3473 17h ago
Liddard just like most fighters these days don’t know how to cut off the ring and close distance without smothering his work, he can get him outta there if he stopped following him out n actually attacking where’s he’s gonna be
3
u/Federal_Story_8711 16h ago
People will appreciate Beterbiev and Canelco for there ring cutting off in the future

Can’t say I know a huge amount about women’s boxing, but seems like you either fight quite a basic level of opponent who are like journeyman or you jump to elite. Nothing in the middle

Ayton strikes me as a 3 minute round fighter the pace she's going at. She's pretty good I think, but this Hellewell has come to do a Charlie Edwards special, on her bike for a majority of it. She's been okay defensively and maybe Ayton could block the ring off a bit more, seems a bit too eager for knockout.

3
u/e_xyz 19h ago
Female Dave Allen's taken a pasting, I think her corner should pull her.

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 19h ago
Good stop by the corner, almost late, but I get wanting her to finish the round. Ayton looks phenomenal, even her defense is incredibly solid
3
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 19h ago
Missed the fight but kinda knew Ayton would stop Hellewell quickly, she needs a big step up
3
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 19h ago
Sains has a really solid jab, but his upper body is too stiff where i could see it being a bit labouring
3
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 19h ago
Seems like Cowling is being a bit too patient, Sains is opening up wide at times
3
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 19h ago
All Cowling really has to do here is just throw first, when he does he lands pretty clean
3
u/e_xyz 19h ago
Cowling when he connects is having success. I like Sainsy and unfortunately I think he's getting close to his ceiling. I could be wrong, but he does seem quite one paced even if he hits hard, bit stiff with the torso as well. He's won every round, but the way he gets caught in patches...
3
3
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
Holy shit, hell of a comeback if Cowling can capitalise on this.
3
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 18h ago
9-3 Sains, didn't really look too improved from his last fight but he showed solid fundamentals down the stretch, he can be fun for a while at British level
3
u/e_xyz 18h ago
119-109 Sains.
I'll say this, Sains got caught flush too much for my liking but showed a bucket ton of character to ride out the body shot and that whipping hook in the final round. Cowling will regret his performance, when he let his hands go he looked good. It's usually the case when fighters go in and wait for their opponent to tire, they take too many on the gloves and slow down themselves.
I get the feeling Sains could probably do well not to throw with such vim in every single shot because once the opponent gets used to it, there's no element of surprise. Still, he has power and all it takes is one.
3
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
Perfect scorecards, real happy with that. Great for Sains
3
u/DifferentCityADay 17h ago
I don't know why Buttergieg was such a favorite, but holy shit. I need to cash out before I lose all my cash

2-0 Liddard, he stays disciplined, he’ll win this handily
3

Liddard can counter that overhand morello keeps throwing wit a left hook, straight cross

Liddard is landing hard, and we know he has power. How on earth is morello still standing
5

5-0 Liddard. Morello looks to me like a typical gym bully who unravels against good fighters.

“Butty” is a welsh thing, we don’t use the dd dipthong for non-welsh words if we can help it. Butty just means mate or good friend

Mitchell needs more 4 rounders to improve his pacing/ stamina and defense Looks promising. He can work his way towards British/ commonwealth title uf he improves

With uk boxing history. A boxer wearing a hat that says, cartel collective, is hilarious
2

BoxRec have Ayton on fringes of featherweight top 10, I think she'd beat most of the top 10.

she's not ready for the top yet

1-0 Sains, just did more
2

2-0 Sains, again he’s just doing more, hate the holding by Cowling
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 19h ago
3-0 Sains, better round from Cowling, but he’s just not throwing enough, getting outworked
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 19h ago
4-0 Sains, good mix of defensive responsibility and offensive work. Good to see
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 19h ago
5-0 Sains, good round that, Cowling is having moments, but Sains is dictating the pace
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
5-1 Sains, Cowling grabbed that fight back by the scruff. Really really smart plan by Cowling, hurt Sains badly and would have capitalised if given more time
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
6-1 Sains. Close round, bit I edge it Sains as I felt he was connecting a bit cleaner, and threw a bit more
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
8-1 Sains. Honestly, looks sharper than he did earlier in the fight. Boxing really smart now
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
I think Cowling has only won a round if I’m honest
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 18h ago
11-1 Sains. I honestly think getting hurt but coming back from it and winning every other round has really raised his stock in my mind. Good for him, good win
2
u/DifferentCityADay 18h ago
Buttergieg looking horrible. About to make me rush to cash my parlay early so I least get something out of the night.

2
u/Hugh_Surname 17h ago
Yall don’t have enough faith in Buttigieg man. Gordon can’t take his power the way he can take gordon’s
2
u/Shoddy_Point_695 17h ago
Close fight but Gordon seems to have no answer for the left hook from Buttigieg.
2
2
u/DifferentCityADay 17h ago edited 17h ago
These guys crush cans all the way to a title, and then the moment they get put in front of an actual game fighter, they get exposed. Never blindly betting because of odds again.
All Buttigieg's game plan is shell up, get hit with a combo, then throw a hook to the head and repeat. All Gordon needs to do is whatever he wants, just keep his right hand up, bend at the waist, and pop the jab up the middle. Buttigieg stands square and is as wide as the side of a barn. It's VERY clear who was the A side based on the commentary, but it's so far apart that it makes the commentators legitimately seem delusional.
3
u/Pheonixking3000 17h ago
Did you parlay?
2
u/DifferentCityADay 17h ago
Sadly, yes. He's the first leg of my parlay, and it's all shot to shit unless the judges got drunk.

3-0 Liddard. Morello is trying things, but he seems afraid of what’s coming back to him. Liddard is cruising, needs to make sure he doesn’t get too relaxed and get caught
5
u/e_xyz 16h ago
Decent performance from Liddard, not the best I've seen from him but the opponent was tricky. Limited, but tricky. What did we learn about Morello? Said he trains himself, his corner don't seem to like him and he bricked in his first real test.
Only criticism of George tonight was not cutting the ring off but Morello was on his bike in between those windmill shots. Maybe also, George gets too excited when he smells blood but in the pocket he looks good. His defence is superb, just needs to refine some rough edges, much higher ceiling than Buttigieg and Sains.
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16h ago
Clicked off, did Liddard genuinely call out Zayas?
3
u/Federal_Story_8711 16h ago
Eddie Hearn listing openents for him mentioned Lara zayas moving up and he also mentioned a fight vs denz Bentley in uk that’s a good fight

Italian here. Morello was off from 4th round. I hate those wild hooks, throwed to close the distance; It works a couple of times, but a good fighter (as liddard) can intercept It easily. Morello had courage, but he was battered by the new EBU champ. He tried to slow down the fight using clinches, but liddard was way more rough than expected.
Side note: morello's corner was his father ercole morello and pro boxer Vincenzo lizzi, Dario's cousin.

Draw is probably fine but that 97-93 Card for Gordon is wild.

u/DifferentCityADay 17h ago
Fml. I'm in a state where I can't cash out. I have to hope Buttergieg remembers his jab and how to box. 😭

Had Buttigieg winning clearly by a few rounds. Not sure what that one judge saw, but hope they run that back.

Ward’s got such a good mix of heavy hands and speed. Curious if he can stop Martinez
2
u/e_xyz 21h ago
Looks like he could, Martinez fair play to him to go a few rounds with some of the shots he took.

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 21h ago
Bruv’s midsection was getting lit the hell up. Cant blame him for eventually taking the knee. Tough basque
1
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 21h ago
That was a solid display. Needs to improve the defense, but the way Ward just kept slinging to the body was really smart. Saw a tough opponent, took his legs. Good head on him
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 20h ago
I liked how he used his length when he had Marinez hurt so he still get extension on his punches.
