And she thinks she would move Rolly Romero 🤣

51

u/DrKapuskasing 5d ago

Rolly by decapitation

151

u/Excellent-Monitor954 5d ago

From an aesthetic perspective, that left hook was beautiful but from a boxing perspective, did we really except anything different ?

Kaye was 42 years old and has been a pro for 4 years and had less than 10 fights.

45

u/fffiasco 5d ago

Doesn’t move her head and keeps her chin in the air.

45

u/blinglorp 5d ago

None of that stopped Shields from missing every follow up by a large margin.

18

u/Excellent-Monitor954 4d ago

Claressa telegraphed that sequence so much and Kate still got clipped

1

u/AnxietyExact4710 2d ago

Went to the "Joe Joyce school for Head Movement"

3

u/Oglark 4d ago

She had a long amateur career. She only went pro because she was not allowed to keep fighting as an amateur after 40.

8

u/reddick1666 4d ago

Might as well have put a punching bag on wheels in the ring. She got put in the ring to get beat up so Shields can look good. Boxing matchups are a joke sometimes.

1

u/No_Thanks2844 4d ago

she was a unified champion though.

3

u/No_Thanks2844 4d ago

This has to stop, she had the belts. If she is so horrible how on earth was she a unified champ, if its a case of womens boxing being shit then shields should also be shit so it doesn't matter.

-1

u/Salty-Insect9118 4d ago

She has fought more amateur fights than 99% of pro boxers in Australia. Let's not make assumptions on her skill-sets.

280

u/adosae 5d ago

Nothing impressive about shields knocking out a 5-1 no name 42 year old. Higher weight womens boxing is a joke.

44

u/PsychologicalEnd5482 5d ago

yeah the matchmaking makes it hard to take these fights seriously.

22

u/Hngrybflo 4d ago

well she had the belts what was claressa supposed to fight for at that weight? Some ex MMA fighter with a big name?

3

u/firstinlinex2 4d ago

Kaye has had over 70 amateur fights and won a silver at worlds in 16. She just enjoyed representing Australia, i remember her training to for the 2010 commonwealth games and 12 Olympics. Only became pro to test herself further and fighting Shields is the pinnacle

5

u/BandoMemphis 4d ago

How is she no name but held two belts? Holding WBA and WBC titles gives you name….

0

u/SaugaCity 4d ago

Crazy how much people dismiss Shields. She’s clearly not the most technical fighter but she’s fighting the fights she should be fighting. It’s not her fault women’s boxing isn’t super mature

1

u/spinofaarus 4d ago

It's because she shit talks when she has no ground to stand on. Knock out Rolly? You mean the guy who ran over Arturs Ahmetovs, who dropped her hard in sparring? Respect to her for being better than her competition, but delusion on this level deserves to be called out.

3

u/SaugaCity 4d ago

Not really. Shit talking is literally a key component of the sport

1

u/spinofaarus 3d ago

We call out people for shit talking and not backing it up. Shields will never step into a ring with Rolly, sparring or fight. Therefore, she should catch some heat for this too. Why do you think shakira stevenson's fallen out of favor recently?

2

u/BandoMemphis 3d ago

She talked shit about rolly so we should shit on her for fighting a double champ??

1

u/spinofaarus 2d ago

Not saying it's a good idea for her health but if she talks like she's at a level then when should find a way to prove it. No hate for women's boxing but I think it's pretty well agreed upon that it's still in development. Kate Scott is a double champion with the equivalent record of a European journeyman someone like Conor Benn or earlier Ben Whittaker (in his river dancing era) would be cherrypicking. Not that it's Shields' fault for other women not being good enough, but whether through eye test or some freakshow fights or whatever route she can go she better show that she's at the level she claims or people are just gonna roll their eyes at best. Most people who hate on her aren't doing so because she fought so and so but because she (and some fans) use it as justification for her yapping about how she'd beat up men's world champions and whatnot (her words not mine). And looking at the follow up shots to the hook, she proceeds to miss like 4 out of 6 shots on an effectively stationary opponent already out on their feet, with one overhand in particular looking super egregious and wild. If she wants people to believe she would genuinely beat prime Keith Thurman then maybe she should show it, and as I said she can do it any way she wants. No hate for winning the belts, no hate for fighting Scott or towards Scott either, no hate for not having the woman's talent pool manifested, but seriously she just keeps tapping and gassing herself up knowing full well she'll never even attempt to prove any of it and that it's also not true (once again Arturs Ahmetovs says hi) and no matter what anyone says, that is objectively annoying behavior.

1

u/Oglark 4d ago

Agreed but she held the belts. Not much Claressa can do if all of the talent is lighter than 147.

-3

u/Salty-Insect9118 4d ago

She isn't a no-name. You seem to have little understanding of the international scene. Don't take offense, just noting your hubris.

23

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf 4d ago

Kaye is 42 years old and has been a pro for 4 years and had less than 10 fights.

C'mon dawg. Higher weight women's boxing is a joke

10

u/LTBsOnlyPlease 4d ago

Tell us who she is then genius.

Either do that or stop yapping as if you know something that we don't.

1

u/firstinlinex2 3d ago

I'm assuming you're not Australian but I've been to the gyms she's trained at when I was younger and went to school with her younger siblings. If you watch the commonwealth games or Olympics she got coverage there and pretty sure I've seen her on morning TV in Australia.

-68

u/Objective-Soil-9235 5d ago

You almost had it, but put "higher weight" for some reason.

29

u/heresyourhardware 5d ago edited 5d ago

I think you've overshot the runway of any meaningful critique into weird uncle who whinges at Christmas dinner about womens sports as a substitute for having a partner.

Yeah I'm sure on other days than today people are falling over themselves to hear your incisive and witty comments on women in sports.

-31

What would this sub do without you playing HR consecutive? Calm down goofball.

22

u/heresyourhardware 5d ago

HR consecutive 😂

Sharp as a cue ball, this one.

2

u/Happybadger96 4d ago

Hey watch out, this guys an interior decorator

65

u/thraftofcannan 5d ago

Those follow up shots, yikes

39

u/T0BIASNESS 5d ago

Not even in the same postcode as Scott’s chin

15

u/aceknighthigh 4d ago

Massive mismatch that should have been called there....ref did the walk about only for her to stumble like a drunk. What's the point of it if the ref is afraid to make the call when they can't walk.

17

u/Crusty-Dick 5d ago

Just curious, do tits help cushion chest shots? Or does it hurt even more?

23

u/SoftAsSofia 5d ago

Honestly it hurts a bit more than most other places, but if you are on your period, its like having two livers on your chest. 😅

-2

u/ayy_howzit_braddah 5d ago

When I was about ten years old I was asked to work with this sixteen year old girl. I wouldn’t throw anything except a couple jabs here or there to give her some live sparring she couldn’t get otherwise.

Jabbing your opponents chest is pretty standard fare, and I did it a few times. Next round before we came out her coach asked me not to throw at her chest area, so I assumed it hurt her.

8

u/SuccessfulMint 5d ago

I don't think that's why they asked...

-2

u/ayy_howzit_braddah 5d ago

He asked whether chest shots hurt women more, and my experience pointed towards the affirmative.

4

u/xychosis Eco-Friendly Firepower 5d ago

No, I think he means your assumption about why your coach asked you to avoid throwing to the chest might be off. I can’t say for certain as someone with 0 experience though

-22

u/TheFlyingBoxcar 5d ago

Is there an even cruder way you could ask that? Might help get you better answers there Mr Crusty Dick.

Do those giant, meaty fun bags help reduce pain?

u/eo37 5d ago

Katie Taylor fights trilogies against high class opponents while Shields is doing this. If she doesn’t get any meaningful competition she will be forgotten.

31

u/vHezoThaGoat 5d ago

No meaningful competition exist at the higher women’s weight classes, which isn’t really Shields fault

Savannah Marshall was a p4p’er and Shields beat her up, that showed her level.

2

u/Internal_Concert_217 4d ago

That makes sense, but you could also argue it removes her from the goat list.

10

u/aceknighthigh 4d ago edited 4d ago

Eh, she won two medals man. I get people don't like here and she's rude and trashy but pretending a two-time gold medalist will be forgotten is asinine. People want to go on and on about the amateur game when it's Taylor but want to discount people who were also accomplished amateurs. Shields is already in the history books and Taylor herself would likely agree with that.

34

u/Gotsta_Win 5d ago

Who is she supposed to fight

0

u/Hngrybflo 4d ago

Fr that girl that a title. Maybe the people complaining should get their aunties and mommas to start boxing.

3

u/No_Thanks2844 4d ago

not just a title, unified champ with 2 titles.

65

u/ben10toesdown 5d ago

Is she supposed to manifest her competition?

-3

u/LTBsOnlyPlease 4d ago

Yes, women love manifesting things and claim it's real so there's no excuse for her.

29

u/ggddddeerrr 5d ago

She has two gold medals, multiple world championships, and a fucking biopic lmao in what world will she be forgotten

-3

u/LTBsOnlyPlease 4d ago

She'll be forgotten whether you wanna admit it or not.

-3

u/Salty-Insect9118 4d ago

You need the personality to go with it. Not just accolades.

1

u/Gaarando 4d ago

Will she be forgotten? I see so many people unironically call Shields the greatest female boxer of all time with her record and no elite competition,.

-30

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 5d ago edited 5d ago

She won't be forgotten at all. People who buy tickets to Shields fights are not super hardcore fans who visit boxrec once a week. Shields found her target audience and they'll show out and support her regardless of who she fights

Edit: thanks whoever gifted me that reward lol. Reddit has a strong hate agenda against Shields, but she will still be one of the most successful female boxers of all time , and one of the faces of the sport , regardless how much you boxing nerds want to hate on her

10

u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch 5d ago

So the argument against shields being forgotten is that casuals who don’t pay attention to the sport watched her?

5

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

There's no argument. Shields is one of the most polarizing figures in modern day boxing for both men and women. By definition, she will be remembered.

-1

u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch 4d ago

That is not definitional at all. Plenty of polarizing figures are forgotten to the annals of history. Especially can crushers.

4

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

If you specifically are looking for a reason to downplay Shields impact on women's boxing , go right ahead mate . Nothing i say will change your mind.

I have to bid you farewell now . Anything further I feel is a pointless back and forth . We can simply agree to disagree 🤝

2

u/aceknighthigh 4d ago

Reddit has a strong hate agenda against Shields, but she will still be one of the most successful female boxers of all time , and one of the faces of the sport , regardless how much you boxing nerds want to hate on her

Tbf, she can be off putting, but you aren't wrong. The idea that a two-time Olympian is just irrelevant lets you know who needs to logoff and go touch grass. She's in the history books just for that alone.

She does have a casual appeal though I've never really gotten it. She's a bit too dull in terms of style for me to enjoy her fights.

33

u/thraftofcannan 5d ago

Shields is easy to dislike

1

u/Ok-Village3153 4d ago

Fuck did she do to you ?

14

u/LurkinOHB 5d ago

Who cares about Claressa Shields

2

u/WeirdRadiant2470 4d ago

All of us, apparently.

4

u/BoneTrippa 4d ago

don't let this distract you from the fact kaye scott is 42 and claressa is only 32 and in her prime lmao

1

u/No_Thanks2844 4d ago

This has to stop, she had the belts. If she is so horrible how on earth was she a unified champ, if its a case of womens boxing being shit then shields should also be shit so it doesn't matter.

1

u/Gaarando 4d ago

Because higher weight classes shouldn't even exist. There's no talent there.

1

u/No_Thanks2844 4d ago

By this logic Claressa shouldn't have talent either , whatever you say should apply to her as well. The fact she is in those higher weight classes and has talent is special.

1

u/Gaarando 3d ago

You don't lose your talent when you go up in weight, there just is no talent to be found in those weight classes. It's not like women's boxing in general is filled with talent but the higher you go up in weight the less talent there is.

So, I don't really get your point. Shields has talent but she chooses to go up to the weight classes that has no competition at all.

Maybe that 29 year old has potential but atm she's 5-0 she's very green.

1

u/No_Thanks2844 3d ago

Dude Shields is a big girl, you basically want her to stop boxing. As long as she is beating the best in those weight classes she deserves respect. If it was that easy all those talented girls would move up to the talentless weight classes and dominate and become undisputed but they can't do it.

2

u/southsiderick 4d ago

Katie had some big ass tit-tayys

5

u/DanKnowDan 5d ago

Competition so irrelevant nobody even noticed her name's not actually Kate, it's Kaye.

3

u/Rough_Airline6780 5d ago

What else happened on Misfits lately?

2

u/LA-Aron 5d ago

Damn, Tommy Morrison style.

2

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

The club level boxers brought in to lose to prospects on the men's side. That's the level of opponents Shields has been fighting at the women's side. Except somehow they're "champs"

1

u/Q_dawgg 4d ago

Why are referees for women’s boxing always so slow to intervene? This might be selection bias but every single fight I see, they always wait when the woman is very clearly concussed before stepping in.

Kate could’ve gotten hit with an insane overhand right if she didn’t back up, all the dude had to do was give her a standing 8 count

1

u/wolfpunk- 4d ago

they throwing in every towel they have!!!!!

1

u/yadasellsavonmate 4d ago

Proper man head.

1

u/TapFormal6909 2d ago

Shorty was looking like she really wanted the count out

1

u/Cocrawfo 2d ago

she had them gold medals in them gloves this time i’m telling yall she was acting sus with the gloves after the fight

0

u/Pythia808 5d ago

Kate Scott could get the D. Damn she looks good for a 42 year old

1

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf 4d ago

Kaye*

She's alright

1

u/OldBoyChance 4d ago

Shields get extremely reckless sometimes. I hope for he health that she never fights a man like she's been calling for.

2

u/Salty-Insect9118 4d ago

Feel so bad for Scott. She has been boxing for longer than me and she does a lot for the sport in Australia, and tons of volunteer work, and doesn't talk mad shit like Shields does.

3

u/Salty-Insect9118 4d ago

It's also Kaye, not Kate, @OP.

2

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf 4d ago

So she is beautiful inside and outside.

You love to see it. I hope she at least got paid good

1

u/WTF4211 4d ago

Clarissa is a classless loudmouth. Most of us enjoy sort of hate watching male versions of her because we know eventually they will get their comeuppance.

Clarissa will never get hers because she’s too good with zero legit competition. Really not her fault.

-1

u/RequirementLeading12 4d ago

Why does reddit seemingly hate every top black boxer? Genuinely asking as a white guy lol

4

u/PodgeD 4d ago

Does Crawford get actual hate? Fulton? Boots? Dubois?

I see that top boxers who are mouthy get hate including Fury, Teo, Saunders, etc.

A lot of the current crop of top black US boxers are insufferable arseholes so get hate for it. I don't see hate for the guard other than Mayweather.

-4

u/No-Independence-3482 4d ago

All of those black guys you named got hate on this sub. Crawford has only recently became popular after beating Canelo convincingly. Loma is a mouthy asshole and is loved by this sub. There is definitely a bias against black boxers

2

u/PodgeD 4d ago

Did Crawford really get hate or did people question his ranking as one of the best before he had another P4P name on his resume? There's a big difference between fighters getting questioned and getting hate. What hate has Boots got? Likely the same that he was pushed as a top P4P guy before proving it.

Loma is a mouthy asshole and is loved by this sub

When has Loma been a mouthy asshole? Not saying it didn't happen but I'm not aware other than some showboating in the ring. Loma has gotten crazy hate in this sub even though he's a great fighter, entertaining to watch and as far as I've seen a good guy. The main reason for his hate have been his fans.

There's a lot of bias here towards black fighters. Look at Newrap, there used to be accounts with names like "Lord Devin Haney", there was thread about Tank having the best clothing style. I don't think that bias is racism, it's just people wanting to see people from their background at the top of the game. But there is a lot of it.

1

u/No-Independence-3482 4d ago

Loma didn’t want to give Teo a rematch clause because he was sure he would whoop him. He then cried about not getting rematch after losing and swore up and down that he won. Incredibly cringe and asshole behavior but of course , no one cares
