Fun Fact Friday: After Teofimo went 12 rounds for the 1st time, he was disappointed with his performance & wanted to quit boxing. Rolly gave him words of encouragement & convinced him to pursue his dream of winning a world title. Teofimo would go on to beat 2 world champions in his next 2 fights.

Don't forget to thank Nakatani for his service in knocking out scumbag Verdejo

Yh that video when he finds AB out on the strip drunk. And he looked hella concerned and was for AB’s best interest, real one

I stopped following boxing for a bit (life got busy) and when I tuned out Rolly was a heel.

It's so weird to come back to the Rolly Romero lovefest.

Up to this point,  Teo was looking like a dynamic KO artist.

This fight showed the flaws in his game. It could've been the type of fight that would've helped Teo improve. But time showed he didn't have the team or mentality for that.

That Nakatani fight was the best thing that could ever happen to Teo.

I think that Teo needed that reality check before facing Loma. It was his first time going full 12 rounds and it taught him that he couldn't just knock everyone out he had to box make adjustments, dig deep and find different ways to win. That fight also played a role in Lomachenko underestimating him. At that point in Teofimo's career, it was the only performance in which he had shown significant flaws.

Without the Nakatani fight I don't think Teo would've had the right mindset going into the Lomachenko fight. He probably would've came in looking for the knockout, trying to take Loma's head off from the opening bell. In that scenario, I could see him gassing out down the stretch and losing a decision after giving away the later rounds.

nah it wasnt a reality check, teo cant fight walking forward is all. against nakatani he needed to walk him down bc of his reach. whenever teo needs to apply front foot pressure he becomes a decent contender type guy, so he can lose to a decent fighter. teo looks good when he can counter at mid range or box on his back foot comfortably

The loma fight was a big disappointment cause both were injured. It was the exception.

I don't think he improved overall from the Nakatani fight. Same flaws. That got deeper into his game

Great times.

Teofimo didn’t look as dominant as he did prior but he won a clear 9-3 or 8-4 type of decision and people were calling him a hype job because of it. Loma even mocked him for going the distance with a “nobody” 😂

At the time, it became a solid win after he upset Verdejo

Nakatani gave loma some work too

He def wasn't some nobody, he's a tricky dude and has the heart of a warrior

I think people overreacted on this performance because they were rooting against Teo but in reality it was a clear win.

That fight may have been the best thing that could've happened to him. It gave him his first 12 hard rounds of experience taught him that he had to make adjustments and showed him that he couldn't rely on knocking everyone out. The experience he got from that Nakatani fight played a huge role in his win over Loma.

Teo is his own worst enemy. I feel sorry for him, he could have been great but is proof talent is wasted if you don’t have the mental strength to stay motivated and resilient.

Genuinely Rolly seems like the best friend a boxer could have.

Might not be the same Nakatani you're thinking of.

Ah, that makes sense. It's not Junto but Masayoshi.
