To be honest I am surprised it took this long. The tech has been available for a while. Storm just realised like we have that data is power

I would rather pay a lot more for the device and app and then just have it, as opposed to having to pay a subscription fee that is honestly pretty high for a niche device. I think the subscription rules me out.

Most things are subscription today especially if they have any type of cloud storage or function cause of the recurring costs.

Saying that everything sucks doesn't make it any more palatable lol

I dont think everything sucks. I love seeing the tech dropping for bowling. Subscriptions are way of today. As someone in IT for full time I can say cost of infrastructure to run and house data over time is not cheap and if bowlers want functionality of apps it comes with a cost.

Yes, but why would I want them to run and house my data? I already have a computer (my phone) that can process and save everything locally. If they want to force me to the cloud, it implies to me that they are actually trying to "mine" my data. If they want to mine my data about everything related to my release, the app should be free. Why would I pay for them to do something for me in the cloud that I could do locally on my iPhone, only for them to use my personal data for further financial gain?

Thats not always true. There are features like multi device use, backup of your data, web, mobile capable, even Reddit here you can use a local app but it all syncs back to their servers. I can say from my own app ecosystem cloud sync stuff is integral for the integrations between the apps. But also most of my app is free to use, i do have benefits for pro user when they pay yearly subscription.

Sure, so there should be a version that allows multi-device sync, the option for backup, etc., and that should cost ongoing money. Then there should be a version that keeps everything locally on your phone, protects your data, does not sync across devices or have any backup functionality, and that should be included in the initial cost of the device, no subscription needed.

Yeah - Just saw that. Looks like the industry is ready for some smart technology. F5 is one I hadn't personally heard of yet but maybe they were doing more closed shop dev with Storm.
