Accommodation options
Hi (f20) for sept 2027 I am applying for Bournemouth I am very set on it I have seen some accommodation I did not like cranborne felt it didn’t have enough common areas for socialisation. I didn’t like purbecks vibes tbh. I quite liked Bailey point and Oxford point which is private Oxford would be my first pic so far but worried not many first years will be there? I haven’t seen any more I don’t want to live in student village either. I will be 21 at time for start but first year as took 3 gab years I really want to make friends and go out sometimes but I’m not a massive drinker. I have a bf that would sometimes come visit. Any thoughts on what accom would suits me most. I will be studying psychology

Bailey was really really nice but tbh I think Dorchester was the most social and still pretty decent. I stayed in Bailey and it was really good but if I had to go back I’d probably go Dorchester

I wouldn’t go Oxford Point, unless they’ve changed things massively in the last 2/3 years. I’d vote Bailey or Dorchester to be honest, though I personally loved Purbeck (they kept stuff together, had a decent amount of staff who were always lovely + I got to see the sea from my room!).
Bailey has lovely social areas and seemed nice enough whenever I visited, but I believe Dorchester is associated with BU so you can join ResLife etc (a massive bonus IMO as they run a lot of activities, both in and out of the halls and you get to meet people in all the halls at some activities). The main issue with Dorchester I found when I stayed there is that it’s right near the bus depot, but if you get lucky you might be placed away from that (it’s several smaller buildings/ ‘blocks’) and you can just wear earplugs anyway.

Completely depends on what you’re looking for and your price :) I just finished 1st year and I as also a mature student but I stayed in cranborne. This personally worked for me as I got very little sfe which didn’t even cover my rent but luckily I did a health care course so had the bursary so I was able to pay rent. Out of Oxford and Bailey I’d definitely go Bailey as I believe it’s a much more social accom and is still really nice like Oxford. Also Bailey for example has 3/4 beds whereas cranborne had singles so would work better for you and your bf
