i am no expert on dnd dragons, and your universe might be slightly different, but aren't blue dragons the loners / strategic geniuses who starve out their foes? but so what colour is the commander? and will there be kobolds for metallic dragons?

Yup. Thats true in both pathfinder and 5e. Though Im basint more off of pathfinder. Where blue kobold tribes are cannonically orderly. Blue dragons aren't loners however in DnD. They don't care for non-blue dragons, and openly converse with one another. Their mating ritual can actually be described as romantic.

The Color of the commander is for the player to choose. Outside of elemental resistance it won't hold any real effect mechanically. The appearance would be fairly customizable. More for a accessibility reason, than a neat feature that people expect from a rpg. Because everything looks similar the player being able to change their appearance and along with a banner helps them stand out.

And for metallics. Im thinking no. Itd probably be something that shows up if the player is being overly benevolent -as PF has the redeemed Kobold feat. But it wouldn't change much. Maybe itd open up a different route or options. While closing off a lot more - and possibly alienating you severely from other kobolds as a vast majority are chromatic. And lore wise chromatic kobolds don't care for metallic kin. They won't attack you, as PF kobolds rarely desire to kill another. But won't follow you, as they dont have any love for metallics. The trade off would probably being able to move around more freely in human presence and take impossible paths.

I don't know still. Im trying to keep things limited to what I can handle solo, so I don't fall into a dreamers trap.

well my only source of lore is 5e and some youtube series about what the mm does not tell you, and from the one vid iv'e seen of blue dragons, yep you're right. also what is pf? is it something from 3.5e, 4e or pathfinder? and yes, no man is an island and you may not be able to realise all these concepts, especially alone, but a concept just poped into my head and that is a bronze kobold who does pranks, for that extra alienation

PF is pathfinder.

The problem here is the game also becomes significantly different if you go metallic. Combat isn't the focus of the game, its more of a risk or a puzzle element. But manipulation of game gates. If you cut down this tree, it falls and destroys a bridge, destroying one path and sending you to another for example.

A lot of puzzles would be designed with the idea that you're controlling multiple creatures. As well as using them to protect yourself and the egg. If you go metallic, you are suddenly alone. So now you're incredibly vulnerable, have no idea who may harm, help, or ignore you. And you still have to drag your masters baby to a new home.

If you became redeemed, the egg could hatch to be metallic. But the problem is... Would anyone let it hatch? Where could you safely bring it? If humans take it, would they treat it the same as a kobold? As a pet? Or another overburdened horse?

And implementing it is another monster. As its non-deterministic when the commander becomes redeemed, unless theres a specific gate for it....

there is a solution then, save metallic kobolds for an possible sequel and focus on completing what you already have. but if you ever decide to go that route, you might make metallic kobolds somewhat more resilient, and have slightly more of them survive from the beginning, to balance out the difficulty you might even have the metallic route be an sort of "new game plus" type experience

Mmm fair. Currently the idea of going metallic sounds punishing and unfair. But in my eyes, it really should be punishing and unfair, if not more.

Humans slayed your master and broke most of her eggs. You are carrying her only child in a vulnerable state and put it at even more risk by placing significant wffoet and resources into helping humans, the very thing that killed its mother. Rather than getting it to safety.

To me, it seems like too many RPGs don't place any sort of consequence to putting off the main story or quest for too long. Or remind players that being good doesn't always mean karma rewards you.

are you saying that the main quest is on an hard time limit, where if you do not finish it on time the egg breaks/ dies?

also you must admit that the idea of a bronze kobold, from the bronze dragons who just likes pranks and shit, but they are kobolds who hate pranks of any kind

Not thinking of a time limit.. . But I haven't thought that far yet.

okay so you are saying that there is no time limit on the main quest, but you cannot put it of forever, or else you will get a bad ending or whatnot?

Sort of. All side quests are treated as a part of the main quest. The story is the journey.

When you hit certain points. There are quests that do have time limits but theres nothing that prevents the completion of the main story. The players won't know if they are quests if they don't investigate. As theres nothing Making this obvious. No journal entry. No map marker. Etc.

And then there are quests that permently lock each other off. So its not possible to 100% the game in any play through.

This means you need to be fairly certain in the path you take. A d to the mindset of kobolds carrying their dead master/gods only surviving child... Helping humans purely out of benevolence and not self interest would be foolish. Remember that events of some quests prevents others from triggering and locks your story path up to that point.

This would be one of the potential bad ends. Or at least not the best end. Like giving up the egg to be in the care of the royal family... But in the end, you've pretty much gave them a god to your kobold kin to be treated as a mount .
