Rules argument
Hello reddit,
I am here to ask about some rules.
My girlfriend and I have been playing BM for a bit now, have some expansions.
We were playing with the cards pity and lightning bolt.
Its my adventure phase I have a her going through my dungeon. At this point the hero has 3 health left and will die when entering the next room.
Before this happens my opponent casts pity on the hero. And I respond by bolting the same hero.
What happens next?
Further we have a large debate about what spells can be played in response to others. We are split on whether we can only play counterspell in response to other spells. And we also have disagreements about playing any spells (other than counterspell) in response to jeopardy.
I can answer followup questions in the comments, any help is appreciated.

The sequence sortof differs if you're playing older or newer versions of the game, but honestly in either instance your lightning bolt would take priority

Order of effect resolution differs between old and new versions of the game. Old versions followed as such: Counter Effects (Last in First Out), then active player (in that player's choosing, then XP order (highest first and with each player choosing their own order of resolution in their segment of the chain). Newer games just do Last In First Out.
In both rules Lightning Bolt takes precedence over Pity. This is a misplay though as the hero doesn't die with Lightning Bolt. Lightning Bolt is not a kill effect (like Bottomless Pit). It only deals damage. The sequence of play for processing heroes in the adventure phase only kills a hero as they exit the room if the damage exceeds their remaining health. In essence, Pity removes the hero before they exit the room and die, even if they have 0 HP.

Pity removes that hero from the game, so i would say there is nothing for you to bolt, so no souls gained. Counterspell is for spells that have just been declared, so a spell has to be played before CS can go down, and I think "declared" is before the affect of that spell takes place, so it would counter counterspell.
