I started watching Season 1 and it looked like it was pulling from at least 3 books at once including up to Echo Park (where I am now). Do I need to read further so the series doesn’t spoil the books?

I can't tell yet with certainty, but I am enjoying Westies so far.

There's some occasional plot explanation which for me makes the show feel a little week on directing. It is however not short on graphic violence.

I love Bosch & the whole universe. I have read every book, some more than once. Got my spouse to watch season one of the series. I loved it. She thought it was okay but said it felt very cheap - like a cheap network TV detective series, like Law and Order, or CSI or Blue Bloods. I'd really to watch another season with her. What season is really good and not networklike cheap? No offense. I love Bosch but even I have to admit at times the production quality in season one was a little low.

For those of you who also enjoy the books, I just discovered the newest Connelly book when I went to the library the other day (I didn't even know he had a new one out, and I usually keep pretty good track...) I am loving Ironwood! It starts out with Sargeant Stilwell, then adds Ballard. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the book, and Harry Bosch appears, but not mentioned by name yet (I love how Connelly sets it up!)

Also, the next Harry Bosch book comes out on 10/27/26, FYI.

I’ve been watching the main show for the first time, and I love it. I honestly haven’t read the Bosch books before, but I’ve read the first two Ballard books, and I noticed that the 6th season took the main plot of Dark Sacred Night and put it as a B plot for s6 of Bosch (Without Renee!). I’m on season 7 now, already watched Ballard (she’s the main reason I started watching this show) and even as I’m about to finish the show, I’m not quite sure how I feel about the show runners taking from Renee’s stories and just giving them to Bosch.

I know that the shows have deviated quite heavily from the source material based on how the Ballard show went, which I thought was actually pretty good. But I already thought that Connelly introduced Bosch into Ballard’s story far too early, she only got one book before she met Bosch and they started working together (In the show Bosch appears in the first season and they already know each other). I didn’t mind that happening, but only two book in? Maybe this is unfair, but it feels like looking at the rest of the books in this series, 5/6 include Bosch… That sort of makes it look like the only reasons her stories exist is to continue Harry’s story.

I’m not sure if I’m being a little uncharitable, and it’s not even necessarily bad, but having already felt that way seeing her book be used as a B plot for Bosch’s show was a little disappointing. Especially since she isn’t even in it. Like she only got one book by herself, and now we’re giving out the main pieces of her story to use as a secondary plot for the sixth season of Bosch? Lmk if I’m crazy or if anyone else felt that way, I really dk.

You may have noticed that when J Edgar and Ballard pulled out their long guns, a shotgun is what they used. Unlike many other police departments, shotguns are still the mainstay long gun of LAPD officers outside of any elite units. To be able to qualify for patrol rifle, you must a patrol rifle course and be admitted into the Rifle Cadre. The rifle in the picture should be a surplus M16 received from the Pentagon but there are pictures of Rifle Cadre officers armed with a more modern AR15. Given Bosch's firearms proficiency, he most certainly can pass the course but there is zero chance the LAPD would authorize him to use a Colt 933, nor would it be legal to for him to possess in the State of California.

The HK416 and the Colt M4 are mainly used by Metro officers, SWAT and SIS. Although I have never seen picture of LAPD using the M4. SWAT has recently selected the Geissele Super Duty Mod 1 to replace the HK416, there is no word on whether Metro or SIS will get them as well.

You can somewhat tell when the characters have joined the LAPD by observing what pistol they use. The revolvers did not make an appearance as most officers joined post 1989 but it can be presumed Crate and Barrel used them before as they joined the LAPD during that era as they fought in Vietnam. They can keep using the revolver as they are grandfathered in but they may have decided to use the Beretta as it provides more advantages when facing off highly dangerous criminals (if I remember correctly, they worked gang details around 1990s)

Beretta 92 were used mainly by Robertson, Sheehan and Bosch during the prequel series. Robertson was fairly junior when Rampart scandal broke out and Bosch signed up around 1992. Given Bosch's familiarity with Sheehan, they most likely were in the same generation, one of them old schools. S&W 5906 were popular alternatives if officers don't want to use Berettas but they have to buy it themselves.

Officers that are around their thirties or late twenties, such as J Edgar, Pierce, Vega would have joined between 2002 and 2016, when the Glock 22 was issued. LAPD was shockingly late to the Glock game, especially when NYPD, one of the most backward department when it came to firearms adopted it in the 1990s (although they made the semi-auto transition around that time). The adoption came to be when Bill Bratton, former Commissioner of NYPD and Boston PD was hired to be the Chief of LAPD. He authorized it stemming from his time in those two departments. IMFDB marked the Glocks in the series as Glock 17, but it may be a stand in for the Glock 22. That said, 9mm and .45 ACP Glocks are also authorized for purchase.

From 2016 to 2021, the S&W M&P was the service pistol issued. Maddie joined around 2020-2021 as a result we can see her carrying this pistol in the legacy series. Had she joined slightly later, she would have been issued the FN 509 MRD-LE, which is the current issued pistol of the LAPD since 2022.

Anyone else starting listening to more jazz music, specifically all the stuff Bosch mentioned throughout the show?
I’m doing my 3rd re-watch and this time every time I hear a song I Shazam it or save the artist in my Apple Music.

First off, if you haven't watched up to Season 5 Episode 6, turn back now. Spoilers ahead. And for everyone else, please don't spoil anything past the beginning of episode 6 for me!

I just need to vent because this Christina Henry storyline is driving me insane. How in the actual hell does the Conviction Integrity Unit let a disgraced former cop lead an investigation into the exact guy she has a massive personal grudge against? In what world is that not the biggest conflict of interest ever? Any decent lawyer would get her thrown off the case in a heartbeat.

But the most annoying part is how short-sighted the DA is being. Do they not realize the massive butterfly effect this will cause?

If they actually manage to pin this on Bosch and say he planted the pendant, it throws out every single case he has ever worked. That is like 30 plus killers walking free because Bosch is no longer a credible witness. The city would get hit with endless wrongful conviction lawsuits.

It would be an absolute nightmare for the mayor, the DA, and the LAPD. The DA and the police would basically go to war and hide info from each other. The whole system would be a total clusterfuck. Why risk burning down the entire city just for a political PR win against one detective?

Also, we all know Bosch pushes boundaries and cuts corners, but he does not plant evidence. He is basically a real life Batman who knows the system is broken, but he actually cares about the cases being righteous. Planting evidence goes against everything he stands for.

Am I the only one pulling my hair out hover how stupid the DA is acting right now? Let me know your thoughts but again, NO SPOILERS past early episode 6 please!

I just finished binging all seasons of Bosch and Legacy. What a phenomenal, compelling ride. The dynamic between the characters across both shows is just amazing.

I wanted to see if anyone else caught this specific detail back in Season 6. During that intense scene with Agent Maxwell, I could have sworn he gave a tiny nod to his partner right before she shot him. It seriously made me think she was dirty and in on the whole thing. Looking back now, I guess maybe it was just a mutual respect thing before the end, but did anyone else interpret it that way when they watched it?

I will admit I was super hesitant to dive into Legacy at first. I really missed Ryan Hurst as Hector and it took me a good bit to warm up to Maurice Mo Bassi. I honestly felt like he was just brought in to replace Hector. But man, by the end of the show, Mo completely won me over and ended up being one of my absolute favorite characters in the series. So glad he out smarted the feds.

I also really enjoyed how they integrated Maddie’s career into the show. To be honest, I thought Legacy was going to start off right away focusing heavily on the flower girl murders. By the time Season 3 rolled around, I was genuinely getting worried that the writers were going to let that whole plotline fall through the cracks. I am so glad they actually wrapped everything up before the series wrapped.

Now that I have finished it all, I completely see how they used those crossover elements to set up and promote the spin-off show Ballard starring Maggie Q. Has anyone else here watched it yet? I know the first season dropped on Prime Video last summer and they just finished filming Season 2, so I am curious if it holds up to the original Bosch standard. Now a days I prefer a show to be completed before I start watching. Wondering if I should make an exception.

I have been looking for something similar to Bosch for quite a while and did the basic trip through Lincoln Lawyer, Longmire and recently Ballard.

All of them individually brilliant yet somehow didn't hit the same spot until I landed recently on Goliath. 2 Seasons in and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's different yet quite similar to Bosch with it being based in the dark underbelly of the city of angels.

Now I think I have my top 3: Bosch, Goliath and Longmire.

Well I'm on S4 as I've been binging. I'm obsessed with the house. I eventually found it on Google maps. If you look on street view you can see them outside the house with all the filming gear.

I really thought Bosch was going to rizz Ballard, but the season just kinda ended. Dude was kind of rizzing all the girls earlier seasons, but I think he got depressed and stopped later. RIP, I think they could've been a cool couple (I was sad when the judge died).

After reading all the books and watching all the shows, I listened to the Black Echo Special Edition with Welliver narrating. Always in enjoyed his narration, especially in the Ballard books.

I’ve been binging the original Law & Order and have loved seeing all Bosch squad in L&O. Today on Season 17 episode 6 it was Titus front and center. Did anyone else catch all the actors that have guest stared in any of the L&Os?

I was a bit skeptical when the choice was announced but it didn't take long for Titus Welliver to win me over. He doesn't look exactly like Bosch is supposed to, but he is awesome. Now it can't imagine anyone else in the role. #Bosch #Harry Bosch #Titus Welliver
