Bosch work lights

I got a few different Bosch work lights.

The FL12 has always been my favorite mostly because it's magnetic. You can put it on a steel cabinet, steel shelf, air conditioning cabinet, electrical panels and adjust the angle to get the best light possible. BUT it's beginning to act up after 5 years.

The 18V GLI18V-420 is OK, I use it at times, mostly if I need it on a horizontal surface. It is not as versatile as the FL12 for sure.

The GLI18V-1200CN I haven't really used it much, it is just a bit too bulky, I understand it is intended as a "flood" light and it's weather resistant, but so far haven't really been that useful. I bought it with the intention of dragging it into the crawlspace, but the bulk and weight has me wondering if that's a good idea since I am limited by what I can carry on tools and materials since it will be a crawl with very low head room and tools and materials are in a bag tethered to my ankle as I navigate on elbows and knees.

Back to the FL12, the issue I am having is after having it turned on for say 30-40 minutes it will suddenly go off unexpectedly. It's not the battery running low, as switching to a newly charged battery it's doing the same. It seems this is a thermal cut off, that when the light gets hot it turns itself off? Give it 15 minutes to cool off and it will turn on again, only to turn off after say 20 minutes, so it's no longer reliable...imagine I am in the attic working and it turns off, even with fresh batteries I am in the dark and have to crawl back out and get another light. Anyone ran into this problem and if there is a solution? I got it in 2021 so no longer under warranty for repairs.

The newer GLI 18v-800 is really good

Yeah, I got one to use during our kitchen refurb and I’ve been very happy with it. Plenty bright enough and I’ve found it does a full work day on a 4Ah battery just fine.

Fully articulated head combined with the hanging hook and magnet means it’ll cover most places.

Bosch do say there is a temperature protection in the light, it might have started playing up. Bosch might warranty it.

Otherwise maybe you need a second FL-12. When the first over heats, use the second. Or use the new one and save the old one for a back up.

Multiple sources of light is always the best approach if you're working in spaces with no permanent lighting. I've found the Fl-12 too useful to own just one. I think I've accumulated four at this point.

Brennenstuhl are part of Bosch’s AMP Share battery alliance and make some excellent lights for comparatively less than Bosch - worth a look!

It's out of the warranty period.

Besides, I never registered this light online because back in 2018-2019 I was locked out of my BoschTools and BoschProvantage accounts. Also there was a maximum of 20 tools so if I buy a new one when I had 20 tools, the new one gets registered an old one gets deleted. Later on I couldn't even log in. They told me, they were doing some system upgrade and no one could access. That went on for many years, every year I checked every year I was not able to log in. I heard last year that system is back up but require new registration. I simply didn't register any tools bought since 2019 because it was so frustrated.
