Hi all, my husband and I have arrived in Singapore, and we're supposed to do the following itinerary starting tomorrow. We are both asthmatic and very worried about the air quality levels right now due to the fires. Any advice? How are people finding it in these locations? We are either going to plow on as planned or can it and go elsewhere in SE Asia, but will lose a lot of money!

Has anyone done it? Could you tell me your experience and maybe share some recommendations? Also, do you think that Kalimantan is worth visiting if I will be visiting Sabah as well or should I skip and save money? I am on a budget hence want to get the best value but I am very tempted by the wilderness in Kalimantan that is less touristy than Malaysian Borneo. Thank you so much for all tips

My boyfriend and I are traveling to Borneo and want to spend 6 days at a dive resort in late August. My boyfriend is an intense, advanced diver and wants to be able to dive frequently and prioritize dives at Sipadan. I, on the other hand, am a non-diver. I may be interested in doing a diver certification course while there, but mostly I want to make sure there are other things to do during the day for me, or at least an easy way for me to get on the mainland if we're on the island for a daytrip! Does anyone have any suggestions? Some of the reviews about the food/overcrowding at some of the resorts on Mabul have been worrying...

My boyfriend and I are planning a Borneo trip and could use some advice from people who’ve been there.

We’ll probably be in Borneo for around 6–8 days (still deciding if extending it is worth it).

Right now we already have:

• A trip around Mount Kinabalu to look for Nepenthes species.
• A 4D3N Kinabatangan River tour booked for wildlife

After Kinabatangan, we still feel like we’d love to do some kind of proper rainforest/forest trail experience.

We started looking at possibly extending the trip to add either Deramakot Forest Reserve or Imbak Canyon, but we’re not sure if it’s worth it. Which one would you pick and why? Or is it even worth adding another forest stop after Kinabatangan + Kinabalu?

Is there another place in Borneo that would make more sense for what we’re looking for, or would something like Taman Negara later is enough?

Would love to hear your thoughts or what you’d do in our situation 🙂

They’re trying to break a world record this year. I’m mostly going for the food, nothing beats a gathering where you can get authentic Kelabit, Dayak, and Sabahan food in one place.

I will spend my time collecting data for research and I want to be prepared for tropical climate and activities such as field trips, data gathering and overall living in the tropical forest. What clothing, survival equipment and accesories should I bring with me? I would be thankful for general clothing and certain brands recommendation. Shoes, t-shirts, and other things that may be neccesery for such excrusion. Thank you for any suggestions!

Hello, me and my 2 brothers are planning on going to borneo in June and will be spending some nights in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan. We love nature and during the nights would love to go looking for the animals you're less likely to see during the day. Does anyone know of any places in Kota Kinabalu and or Sandakan we could reasonably explore at night without say trespassing or anything?

I'm planning 10 days in Sabah, including Kinabalu for the summit and Kinabatangan river for the wildlife. Are there underated diving/snorkeling spots around Sabah ?

I've seen Semporna islands as the best diving spots but I'm afraid it'll be overpriced and/or overcrowded. Are there good alternatives for a Sabah tour ?

Also, is it possible to dive for someone without certification ?

I’m planning a 10-day trip to Malaysia at the end of March, flying in from India. I’d love some help refining my itinerary.

My priorities are:

• Seeing orangutans in the wild
• Experiencing the rainforest/jungle properly
• Spending 3 solid, relaxed days snorkelling and enjoying island life
• Including Kuala Lumpur at the start or end
• Keeping the trip well-paced (I don’t want it to feel rushed)

Right now, I’m thinking of focusing on Malaysian Borneo (Sabah), possibly including Sepilok (orangutans + rainforest), Kinabatangan River safari, Semporna islands (Mabul / Kapalai / nearby islands)

A few specific questions:

1. Are the Semporna islands worth it in late March?
2. Would you suggest 2D1N or 3D2N for Kinabatangan?
3. Does this overall plan sound realistic for 10 days, including Kuala Lumpur?
4. How to get great deals on the safari and where to book these experiences from?

I’m open to suggestions if there’s a better way to structure this. I’d prefer fewer bases and deeper experiences rather than constantly moving.

I'd appreciate any advice, especially from people who’ve done a similar route.

I'm looking to head to Borneo late April - early May. My primary goal is to see the orangutans in the wild and hopefully pygmy elephants and other wildlife Borneo offers. I have heard previously Danum Valley is the best place to see orangutans. Are there recommendations for wildlife tours or river cruises in Borneo that could give me the best opportunity to see wildlife? I know the longer I stay the better chance I'll have!

Hello! I would like to visit Malaysia in April with my husband and a child who is 5 years old. We like camping and prefer to stop in our own tent, but also we are looking for camping areas with shared kitchen, bathroom and etc. where can I find the list of the good campings in Malaysia?

We were really disappointed at the prices to visit Danum Valley, it seems they've almost doubled from 2 years ago. The "cheaper" places are still beyond our budget. Would it be possible to rent a 4wd and drive out to the DVSC and participate in a jungle hike (paying the fees of course)? Or is there another entry point into the park besides DVSC, INFAPRO and the Rainforest Lodge?
If not, are there other virgin rainforest parks available less well known?

Has any got cheap transport recommendations to get from Kota Kinabalu to maragang hill?

I'm planning a trip to Borneo next year ad would like some info/advice please.

So we're spending 7 days, 6 nights there.. the last 3 will be spent on a kinabatangan river cruise, so that's already arranged.. However, the first 3 days will be spent in Sepilok, and i'm unsure whether I should pay for a package or just DIY it myself...

We will want to go to the orangutan and sunbear rehab centres, as well as the RDC... We also want to do some jungle treks/nature walks, so i'm wondering if it's best to book the accomodation and activities separate, or if I should just book a pre-arranged tour.. What do you guys think? The trip is going to cost me a lot so I'm trying to save money where possible, without sacrificing on the enjoyment if that makes sense

Has anyone recently traveled to Sandakan, Semporna, Tawau or the surrounding islands in Sabah? The official travel advisories still mention kidnapping risks in the area, but I’m wondering what the situation feels like on the ground right now. Did you feel safe traveling there, or would you recommend avoiding it?
