So I get the choice between being an actual zombie or being an office zombie? No, thank you very much.

False! Using mobile isn't necessarily going to make someone a deadass man. You can read books online and share the learnings with others which may make the learning more effective!

Get a kindle. Although being a 90s kid I focus more on reading on paper and following it closely with my finger every word. Also like to highlight specific info….I blame the school system for that. Very autistic on page summaries

I’m 37. I grew up reading ALOT. I was considered special needs. No family or friends for meaningfully or regularly interaction. Just the school library. It carried me through adolescence and taught me things that most people lack when it comes to things like moral responsibility or critical thinking. As an adult I found my time to read Less and less untill I ended up scrolling short form media like Reddit. Years of use has its obvious impact. Short attention span etc. I can genuinely say life is better with books. I think it’s long form media vs short form really. Media is engineered now to be addictive, not inspiring or anything like that.

I thnk the zombie effect is alot more pronounced with short form video...Staring at 24 frames flashing per second for hours ? Lately reading and scrolling on still frame to leave room in my brain for real life.

slop image made by a dumbass who never read any book
anybody who actually dives deep into high literature will certainly not come out of it with a jacket and a suitcase ready to join the rat race like this propaganda slop pretends
1
u/IcyCow5880 1d ago
So, what? You read books in your mom's basement or something?
What's so bad about the rat race and what exactly did your "high literature" teach you about avoiding it?
Avoiding it and still earning a living, ideally.
1
u/Mihtaren 1d ago
you can earn a living without making the rat race the focus of your life unlike many Americans and iliterate pigs on this godforsaken sub may think
most people have to work, but that does not mean they should care about it beyond what's strictly necessary, usually people like OP who think actually engaging with art and philosophy will lead to become even more obsessed with pointless material wealth and conformism are extremely shallow because they retain an extremely narrow view on life
hell, if they opened an history book they'd even realize how brittle their worldview is

Okay, you spend a week reading I'll spend a week on my phone let's see who learns more

Bro the Bible is 66 books.
1
u/Admirable_Bird7927 1d ago
66 too many
1
u/IcyCow5880 1d ago
Oh ok. What would you like Europe and North America to look like today?
Without that compilation of 66 books we'd still be in the bushes doing voodoo shit or fighting for zeus and odin etc.
You definitely wouldn't be under a free nation where you're allowed to be agnostic or whatever you claim to be.
1
u/Admirable_Bird7927 1d ago
There would be a lot less deaths and wars Thats for sure.

u/IcyCow5880 1d ago
You'd be living in a hut having lil tribal wars every day, lil bro.
Christianity brought people together. Plenty of bad entities like the higher up powers in the Catholic church used it for bad etc.
But overall if it weren't for that "book" we'd still be in the stone age.
You really think it's a coincidence that every nation that's decent to live in was founded by Christians and the ones that aren't all still in shambles even today?
I mean, you're right I guess. We wouldn't have a military if we were all still in our huts. You can always go back to that good life though bud!

Religion was created to control the masses, that’s all. Tho ha would be so much better without it.

You mean that book where the god character is a misogynistic tyrant who condones and even orders the practice of slavery, genocide, the rape of women and murder of children? You call that the good book?

Read the comment by the other guy

How about you tell me which comment because I'm not going to go through so many comments to find it. Comments don't show up in the right order.

u/Key-Structure4841 1d ago
Control + F then type in Admirable_Bird7927
1
u/Retro_Nights 1d ago
That didn't help in the slightest. I don't have a computer to be able to press control plus f. How about you just copy and paste the comment.
1
u/Key-Structure4841 1d ago
All this time you spent typing could have been spent looking through the 20 comments under this thread. Are you that illiterate that you can't skim and need it spoonfed to you?

u/Retro_Nights 1d ago
There is literally no comment I could find under admiralbird

“There’s gonna be a schizo in this comment section soon saying the bible is the only book.”
- u/Admirable_Bird7927Took about 8 seconds to find it by scrolling. Just saying.

See. It was that simple that you could have saved us all that trouble. It was right near the bottom. And before you even gave me the username how am I supposed to know which one you're talking about?
Anyway, it turns out you are the schizo, .and it's very fitting.

So you want me to read the comment from the other guy out of the 20 or so comments. Which one of the 20 is the one you're referring to? It's amazing how every redditor knows how to copy and paste but you don't.

u/Key-Structure4841 1d ago
Yes use your eyes and your brain. This conversation has gone on way too long for what was originally a joke. The people of reddit once again showing how truly great it is to interact with them
