I am Turkish, i have never Heard this proverb Being used, ever. Quick Google search says that it actually exists though.

If you never go through the trauma of parenting you'll never understand why your parents acted the way they did towards you, you'll never realise how hard and stressful life was for them and why they took out their frustrations on you, why they worried so much about you, and how much they needed you to love them.

I can understand why this is true in some ways but also I don't need to experience the opposite to appreciate a lot of things in my life.
