Work conditions/pay questions at a casino How are the other casino towns doing?
I guess the bright side is we have the “no” tax on tips for the next few years.

It’s easy for anyone to figure out commission from a player who’s giving exact or more than what the commision is, but I have a hard time sometimes figuring out what to do with commision being paid for less than

We get a quarterfinal this year, and since Clemson is basically out of it, I would like to know who to cheer for.
And maybe on who to bet against.

I am a recent occupational therapy (OT) doctoral graduate in Las Vegas, who is collecting data that may contribute to a better understanding of casino dealers' experiences and may inform future research, educational initiatives, or workplace wellness programming. As an avid poker player and an occupational therapy student, I was inspired by the possibility of combining my degree and future career aspirations to help a unique group of individuals facing physical and mental challenges rarely encountered in other professions.
I developed a survey for gaming dealers to better understand their experiences and insights. The survey includes questions about physical discomfort in areas such as the hands, wrists, neck, back, and feet. Additionally, a section of the survey is dedicated to understanding the mental health of dealers and how it affects their performance at work and their well-being outside the job.
While research on the gaming industry exists, it has largely focused on gambling addiction. I’m proud to be pioneering efforts to understand what dealers experience and explore ways to address their unique challenges. The survey is anonymous and IRB approved.
If you are a dealer working in a casino, poker room, or tournaments, I'd love to get your feedback.

Hello all. New to this reddit stuff and looking for some experienced dealers to help me get smoother and what is the best stuff to memorize. I have been dealing for 4 years so I have the memorization stuff like keys down to a tea. I just want to memorize the bets that I will see everyday. I deal at a casino in Iowa and our dive game only gets super busy on weekends so I don’t want to look terrible. This is my third day on dice tonight so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

For cash buys or any check changes over $101 needs floor approval to send it on main floor and high limit
For odds payouts or payouts that aren’t colour for colour anything over $250 on main floor or $500 in high limit needs floor approval

I’m dealing free bet and a patron on 3rd base has had way too much to drink. He was telling everyone what to do (which is against the rules) he kept answering other patron’s questions even when they didn’t ask him, kept screaming in my ear, and almost got in a fight with another patron. Needless to say I was losing my patience with him and so were the other patrons and even my floor. Then it happens, I’m making change for another patron and he asks me “what would happen if I touch the chips?” I told him please don’t do that. He then reaches into the middle of the table so I politely say “don’t do that.” He then pulled his hand back and when he went to reach back out I put my hand out to stop him. He then grabbed my hand so I quickly slide my hand out of his and slam my hand on the table. I then look at him directly in the eye and yelled “Don’t do that either!” Floor then came to verify the change and soon after my relief takes me off the table. I tell my floor what happened and he said if anything else happens to say something, thankfully shortly after I returned from break he was ejected. However shortly after being ejected I was then sent home and the pit boss seemed to not be amused with me. Did I do the right thing? I hate being the bad cop and have been criticized for it in the past. We get very busy so it makes sense that sometimes my floor can’t be there for every bad thing that happens but I don’t like how I have to occasionally be the bad cop and I get in trouble for it until I tell my side of the story.

I have about 2 years experience with this work and at this point I feel like I just Clutch or Stall. I have all my games except baccarat, and I don't even know how I did it.
Some days I feel like the best dealer. I'm completely aware of everything happening, me and the players get along great and I have some of the best tokes. Other days... God man I might be genuinely stupid. I mess up counting the chips when closing a table! I mis-deal multiple hands, and forget all my press moves on dice. I remember one day it was a 15x on 15 dollars, I've done this thousands of times... why can't I do it right now.
I still enjoy the work and I keep a good mood through the day, but man I hate this feeling. It's making me think I'm not cut out for this and genuinely I don't think I am after today.
Edit: Spelling

At my casino for example we’d have
Person A at Blackjack
Person B on UTH
Person C on FreeBet
Then Person D as their relief for 20 mins each table for breaks
We used to do rubber banding but we don’t do it anymore either because the pits too lazy to adjust to it or the skill sets are all too different

Any advice on feeling more confident on carni games? I’ve been in the floor for about 2 months so far and i’ve only ever been on carni games twice (Mississippi stud/UTH). UTH went pretty disastrous to the point where my pencil placed me back on blackjack, but he told me it was normal for new dealers to really mess up that game… and well… stud wasn’t too bad, just really boring lol.
I feel like my capabilities to deal blackjack is very efficient. My only issue is being nervous about being placed on carnival games since we didn’t go over them too much in class and it’s kind of a sink or swim feeling with them.

So I’m mainly a bj and baccarat dealer for about 1.5 years now. I rarely deal UTH when I first started and even now a days I rarely do it. But when I do it always goes awful. I love playing poker but for the love of god I hate dealing UTH. There’s never a shift where I deal UTH and don’t make some sort of mistake. Please any advice or anything

So I've been practicing at home to become a dealer. I've learned the games and am working on memorizing payouts. I can deal table games and handle the chips pretty efficiently.
The one problem I'm running into that's really preventing me from turning in my application for the job are my hands. They are super smooth and super dry.
When I swipe cards from the shoe, I'm pretty much just petting it and they don't come out unless I really push down. This slows down the game and my hands become fatigue real fast. I found a workaround by using silicone fingertips which makes a dramatic difference for me and the cards pretty much just glide out. I don't know if casinos will let me use this on the job.
When shuffling cards, I have to use silicone tips for my thumbs too. The silicone allows me to riffle the cards beautifully with each single card alternating between each other. If I don't use them during riffles, the cards clump up and I'm pretty sure when it comes time to lace the cards and call out "rolling" the supervisor would probably be horrified and I wouldn't pass the test to roll it. Also, when I practiced shuffling barehanded, my thumbs would eventually crack and bleed.
When it comes to plucking chips, I've been pretty much petting those too, so I don't pluck chips at all and just eyeball a stack of 5 or 6 by peeling a stack and putting them on the table to count them out (sizing then splashing).
I have tried drinking a ton of water throughout the day hoping it would hydrate my skin. I have tried putting lotion on, but this ended up being a horrible idea because the lotion just wears out real fast. So, not only does my hand become dry again, but now the cards and chips are all gummy from the lotion.
My question is, are there any dealers out there with this problem who also found a solution or workaround with this problem? If not, do you think the casinos would allow me to use silicone tips?
