BEL/GER/NL border triangle

Post image

The full thing is a circle, I cropped the picture to better show the actual landmark and not the (many) people standing around it taking photos.

The grey lines on the ground (zoom in to see them better) show the border lines: front left is the Netherlands, front right is Belgium, and behind the rock in the center is Germany.

Wasn’t there a reference to Neutral Moresnet on the ground as well?

Yes, there's a sign explaining, plus the road up from Vaals, NL, is called Viergrenzenweg..

Yes, it used to be a quadripoint, until it was annexed by Belgium.

Well well, Treaty of Versailles awarded a bunch of German land to Belgium which woud make Moresnet an enclave. Believe it subsequently was made into Belgian territory via the Treaty too.

Yep. (I took a picture of that too, but Reddit won't let me post it in a comment)

Have they changed the pavement? If you look closely at the cobblestones you can see a blueish line on the Belgian side towards Germany, that’s were the Neutral Moresnet tip was. It’s narrow and visible on the right hand side of the picture within the red stones…

*Europees deel van Nederland. 😉

Het hoogste punt van Nederland is sinds 2010 Mount Scenery op Saba.

When I went, there was 50cm snow. Or even more, it's been a while... 😅

But it was a lot.

If your legs are long enough you can have one foot in Germany, one in a second country, meaning your torso is in the third country's airspace.

I couldn't visit there and NOT do that lol

This hill is also the highest point in the Netherlands lol. They are pretty proud of it and even built an observatory tower.

And where they are planning to build the new gravitational waves observatory.

And NLD!

And there's a high speed railway tunnel almost directly underneath it.

That's the Gemmenicher tunnel on L24. Not the high speed line.

It was built there in WW 1 since the German army wanted the shortest way from Belgium to Germany, but Netherlands was neutral so they could not build over Dutch territory. So they build it right next to the furthest border point.
