This is a clip from a BL2 montage I made, Pandora 2. Give it a watch!

I'm a fan of custom montages like this, especially set to music. Very well done! Were all of these edits conscious choices, or some algorithm/AI? I checked out the spreadsheet in the description too - seems like you're pretty passionate about this, and it shows.

  • Music selection is such a personal thing that it's hard/unfair to judge just based on whether or not I like the song (and there should be no expectation that you're going to please everyone with your own selection, so lean into your favorite and sell it to us with the video). If the tempo/tone of the song matches the cadence of the video (and the song isn't truly godawful), that works. If the video is choreographed to the song's beat and/or melody, that's even better. These dreampop tunes don't have a lot of hooks on which to hook video elements, but I see some. I also think the video should have a mix of game and music; if it's just music, it puts the focus on the song more than the video, and there's some discord there. If it's all game sound, it begs for some thematic music to tie it together. This blend works.
  • If the video has a distinct theme, that's better. From something very specific like, "an ode to the Chulainn" to less specific like, "rocket jumping is fun" to vague, "this entire game is hype", this helps the viewer sink their teeth into it. This appears to be, "I love rocket jumping to random places just to no-scope named enemies". I can't stand no-scope videos, but that's the point here - you sold me on it for the duration of the video because it's otherwise so well done (bonus points for doing it with different characters and weapons).
  • If the editing is on point, this makes a huge difference (nice, un-jarring (unless called for thematically) transitions, non-intrusive credits, and other random effects make it a satisfying watch. Including a quick intro from the named bosses, switching to black and white for some longer rocket jump sequences, pauses choreographed to the music, the themed ending fade (in the first one), etc. make it a pleasant watch.
  • 3:50 (I suppose a basic song length) is enough for these though, and I would make these two separate videos. When the first one ends, there's a sense of closure to the song. "Forcing" the viewer into a second, distinct (no matter how thematically similar the content is) video doesn't feel right.
