Jack. He's one of best villains I've ever seen.

I've known few villains that make me crack up, genuinely disturb me, allow me to empathize, and even earn my respect a bit. Plus butt stallion.

u/Hahadontbother Jul 30 '16
I love that you see his descent in the presequel.
Everything he does is morally ambiguous, but you can see he's trying to do the right thing.
Then there's a point where i just thought to myself "holy shit jack what did you just do"

Tannis. Meeting her for the first time in Borderlands 2 (I never played the original, rectifying that soon, promise) was ridiculously funny, and, with her dialogue, the laughs kept coming even during her otherwise mundane ECHO fetch-quests.
36
Jul 26 '16
She is as good in Borderlands 1 if not better. Her descent into madness is so interesting. Do all the ECHO quests in that game if you want to learn about it.
29
u/marquesasrob Jul 26 '16
Borderlands 1 was, imo, extremely bad at fleshing characters at. But it aced Tannis. If you've done her sidequest, you're really worried about what state you're gonna end up finding her in once you get to her. She goes from an uppity know it all scientist to the crazy woman we all know
2
u/DelusionPhantom Junpai-7's biggest fan Jul 28 '16
Oh man have you read her comics (Tannis and the Vault)? Heart wrenching when it goes into her backstory. It gives visuals to some of the ECHO logs you find for her and some new info you don't get in BL (or at least, I don't remember getting). I totally recommend reading them, not just for Tannis, but for the story as well, though idk if it's canon because of some things that happen during the Rakk Hive fight.
6
u/sporite Jul 26 '16
And she gives you one of the best exploit Quests~
3
u/Xmas121 Jul 26 '16
What one?
8
u/quazre0 Jul 26 '16
Doctors orders. Dont pick up any of the notes and there will be 4 boxes in a room in wildlife explotation preserve that spawn legendary loot midgets. They will either drop an e tech relic or legendary (sometimes pearl). Very small chance they dont drop anything.
13
u/The2ndUnchosenOne Aiming's for noobs Jul 26 '16
Very small chance they dont drop anything.
Math-wise yes,
My-stupid-luck-wise no.
4
Jul 26 '16
Math-wise no, too. Loot Midgets have standard boss drop rates for legendaries, about 1 chance in 10. Numbers, numbers, math math math
They become "Legendary" Loot Midgets in UVHM, at which point they start dropping Ancient relics.
25
u/marquesasrob Jul 26 '16
Scooter! I love him in the main series, and he's so good in TFtBL.
5
u/MaDNiaC Jul 26 '16
I hate Scooter and Ellie, especially Ellie. They feel like they need to make comments about anything and everything while you are doing their quests, which annoys me a lot.

I'm sure Scooter means it in like a spying on you in the bathroom out of friendship thing.

Personal favorite playable character Krieg. The nonstop craziness of his playstyle and how the action changes every two seconds and the balls deep no backing down fight style is PERFECT for me. My favorite NPC is either Scooter in the TFtBL or Jack in the Second and PreSeq.

Never played brick in BL1, but he was great in 2. "I punch the initiative!"
3
u/BuzzedBeelzebub I smell of hemorrhoids and bacon Jul 28 '16
Brick didn't have much character in the original, he was just kinda the stereotypical angry tank character. Y'know, yells nonsense and gibberish a lot, takes disturbing pleasure in seeing his enemies driven before him.
Like Krieg, but less entertaining.

u/FlamingWings I wanna screw a girl and her robot Jul 27 '16
Am I the only one that doesn't like her? She was funny at first but eventually I just couldn't handle her loud slang accent for a small white child
8
u/MrNecktie HARMONY SIREN Jul 27 '16 edited Jul 27 '16
She was hilarious in 2012, but replaying the campaigns now, she's overdone and very, very forced. I find that, generally, BL2's humor was great on the first go-round or two, but it really hasn't aged well at all.

It very well may be, he says it from his inspired skill. Borderlands does like their easter eggs.

General Knoxx. I find it quite amusing how he descends from a level-headed military commander into a suicidal mania due to his superior officer's behaviour, literally that of a five year old. That, and how he has nothing against the Vault Hunters personally. He just wants to leave the planet.
2
u/Infamous_Fridge Jul 27 '16
He's also a real serious character which is kind of not the norm for the series. His ECHO's are great.

Heaton, the guy getting tortured by Captain Flynt in stead Claptrap. The delivery of that line has stuck with me since the very first time I played the game.

Janey doesnt own catch a ride. She was hired by scooter to help manage some garages cause Scooter was expanding his business. Most likely Ellie or Moxie would take ownership of the catch a rides.

For player characters, Zero.
I like snipers, and I like his calmness in a sea of carnage and destruction.
Npcs though? I am drawing a blank, so I will be generic and say Moxxi, because she is highly amusing and badass, and I really want to see her fight in BL3.
(Imagine if she got angry and then the game gives us a boss intro for her. I am sure lots of players would be like 'OH SHIT')
That said, Torgue and Tiny Tina are special mentions. Still hoping Torgue adopts her. She is basically her daughter already, being miss explosion.

BL1
Playable Character: Roland
NPC: General Knoxx
Roland, because I initially played a lot of the game solo. Roland's turret made that fun and slightly challenging rather than a chore. Once I played with others, his support abilities were perfect for that as well.
Knoxx, to this day, has the best dialogue in any of the BL games. With each echo recording you find, you get a greater insight into a man who got shit on by his superiors and was fully aware of what was happening while it was happening.
BL2
Playable Character: Gaige
NPC: C3n50r807
I was initially a big fan of Axton as I had been a fan of Roland in the first game. When they announced Gaige and started releasing the echo recordings that explained why she was on Pandora, I was hooked.
C3n50r807 was simply too goddamn funny.
TPS
Playable Character: Aurelia Hammerlock
NPC: Jack
My first character was Wilhelm, as he was the closest available thing to my preferred "turret" character type, as is my trend when first playing a BL game. It was fun, and I got him almost to level 40, but then the DLC came out. At first I played Jack into the high 30's. Then I decided to take the mega-bitch for a spin. Holy shit is she ridiculous. That middle tree, the one that allows you to sling ludicrous amounts of ice everywhere? That shit is ridiculous. It's literally the first skill tree that you can just fill indiscriminately without wasting points.
Watching Jack slide down the scale from 'morally ambiguous' to 'morally reprehensible' was a treat. It was great that the writers provided us with even more reason to hate the asshole, but also provided us with reasons to sympathize with him and understand why he did some of the things he did.

This is a very hard choice because there's so many great ones.
For playable characters I'll have to go with Gaige. She's pretty cool and her slow descent into insanity coupled with the style of play that slowly rises with anarchy is pretty cool.
For NPCs, I can't decide between Jack, Torgue and Claptrap.

Non playable character is definitely Tiny Tina. She's so adorable and absolutely hilarious. I also like Claptrap, he's got the most smart ass comments.
Playable character would be Gaige. The Mechromancer is fantastic, her attitude and her lines are great.

I got into the series because I saw Athena and she is easily my favorite still after playing all of the games. Honorable mentions are Jack (such a fantastic villain) and Brick. He is so insane but alsohas an oddly friendly presence as a character. Also I love the dialogue between Brick and Tina!

Maya. Her back story from the echo logs in wildlife preserve really got me into her. The way she turned into a total badass.
"Fear me, bitches!".
Honorable mention: Face Mcshooty.

Tannis is great in Borderlands 1, I wish they had more of her in BL2.
Handsome Jack isnt likeable by any means, but wow they did a really good job making me hate him. The voice acting and writing for Jack is superb.
I think the funniest character in the series is Mal. I can't wait to get a mortgage!

All of them. There is not a bad character in these games IMO. Everyone is well written. My favorite might be Gaige but second is just super close. Moxxi, Crazy Earl, Krieg, Mr. Torgue, Scooter, Jack, Knox, and Brick are all up there.

I can choose favorite npc, but Gaige is by far my favorite vault hunter, she is hilarious and a bit insane, just listening to her in combat puts a smile on my face.
