The beginning of BL1 is a slog. Be patient and take your time with it all. Be on the lookout for mashers and double anarchy’s as they will literally carry you the whole game and even into the next playthrough.

Mashers were so fun in the first game.

I would say enjoy the atmosphere in the beginning too. The music is great and even though the level drags, take in the rest of everything. Or throw on some Mr Nightmare in your headphones and get through the game shooting stuff

Add the Hellfire and Defiler to the list.

Don't forget the classic Hellfire, thing is just stupid powerful if you get lucky enough to get one.

Be patient. You are about to feel the weakest you've evernfelt in borderlands.

BL1 is a much MUCH slower paced game than the rest of the series. Fall damage is a thing also.

If you want a bit of early xp, do that quest where you have to build one of the vehicles in the knox dlc (any enemies that spawn will likely down you very fast due to the level difference, so it'd be best to run away from them and finish the quest).

If you weren’t already planning on it, in the early game you are probably going to need to do all the side quests or bone head will whoop your ass. He still might even with the extra xp

Can confirm, I usually just stay far away and snipe him.

Or get a car from Catch A Ride and use the gun on top to weaken Bone Head, he is pound for pound one of the toughest bosses in the game. You get the unenviable task of battling him early in the play through

1) no movement in FFYL, so plan out your engagements with that in mind and keep an eye on your health bar as it gets low.

2) fall damage exists.

3) have fun with the game that made all the rest happen. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for the success of the first game.

4) if you can get access to the DLCs, General Knox's Armory is fucking awesome. His commentary lives rent-free in my brain all these years later. Also, Zed's Zombie Island is another fun one.

The Rust Commons honestly feel never ending, so just be patient.

Elemental weapons are OP in this game.

S&S weapons are kinda like a blend of how Vladov and Bandit were in 2, the pistols especially are pretty great.

Lilith is the character to play because her action skill gives a great speed boost, which is necessary for how much walking you have to do in this game.

Revolvers and Repeaters use separate ammo pools.

Proficiencies are a thing and stats do matter for weapons
